I guess I see her harsh journey through the desert as more symbolic. Her hardship journey through two different landscapes (past and future life). The harshness of both and the survival of both, having to depend on no one but herself. But then she meets the person who may have also taken that journey and their friendship truly begins.

Still, I feel some are treating this as a documentary vs a fictional drama. Reading these comments, I'm having flashbacks of loving Jack Reacher movies and then making the mistake of watching them with someone who was an MP (Military Police) for 10 years.
Me: "Oh that was the coolest scene ever!"
Other person: "An MP would never be able to do that, ever."
Damnit!

I saw a BTS of them, and they were so cute! I was just going to ask about the chemistry. I think you sold me on watching this.

In my opinion, the physical challenges she went through as a slave conditioned her comparable to someone with military training. Impressive, indeed.

Since this is a fictional drama, I am incorporating an imagination into a few of these details. I've watched Pride Prejudice and Zombies, and I've seen how many weapons a woman can hide under her dress. I think Duan Wu has several along with the knife YZJ gave her.

As far as walking, technically, a person can walk/march 4 miles per hour. Army Rangers will go through sleep deprivation, jump out of a plane, and then have to walk miles to their destination. The mind and body does extraordinary things under extraordinary conditions. With Duan Wu's mental and physical state, I think she walked days on pure adrenaline.

I don't know about China, but the US has regions where you can find both desert sand dunes and snow-capped mountains relatively close to each other. Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado is breathtaking.

Oh, yes! That emotion on his face when he heard her call his name. Relief, happiness, worry, anxiety. He expressed it all with one look.

Fair points. I do see what you're saying. I also agree with the other poster in that there is still danger out there for her. She is a target as well. And, he knows she isn't a person who will just stand still. :-) She will go after them with the knife he so thoughtfully gave her. But I'm still trying to digest one episode at time. It's like having Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner in one week. And, that scene was very freaking cute!

I LOVE LLTG, but LBY was fully conscious when he made the decision to abandon her. He even said he didn’t regret it when he recovered and she heard his words before the Emperor. YZJ was half dead and needed to be carted off by his friend. When he wakes up, his first thought is to go to her. Again, as much as I love LLTG, I truly feel the sincerity and concern from the ML here. He’s not a general with years of calculating military training experience. He’s a character whose hands shake when he wants to kiss her.

I do believe those who “know” the demise of the ML from watching ALL 40 episodes should use the Spoiler Tag when sharing, but at the same time also spill how many more kissing scenes between the leads we’re going to get moving forward. That post does not require a spoiler tag. 🙃

Technically, he didn’t leave her alone. He was carted off unconscious by his best friend whose sole mission was to save him. Upon wakening, YZJ’s first words and first concern was Duan Wu. Despite his numerous wounds, the most pain he showed was thinking he’d lost her. Numerous attempts were also made by his friend to find her. The trailers are not showing the complete picture of ep. 18-20. If you watch the entire episodes, it gives a clearer picture of exactly what took place after the chaotic scene with Shrimp and her friends, and the reasons behind it.

If you follow his character, his actions are consistent with always trying to make her stronger. The noble idiocy trope? If by pushing her away to 1. Keep her safe and 2. Give her independence to start her business and learn to survive in the harsh world they’ve both encountered, then give this to me every time.

Damn!! So much to take in at 1 a.m. Even with all the angst, I’m dying for the next episodes. The acting by both leads during the rain scene was incredible. The pain to hold on and the pain to let go. And just like that, Monday just became a sick day.

Oh good. I thought I was the only one. 😊🤭
