Considering the common themes of the cases so far have been depression, loneliness, family/childhood trauma and su*cide, I have a feeling that he is a part of Shen Yi's childhood. Also, the guy keeps mentioning genes and destiny (embrace your destiny, you genes are criminal)... So long lost brother?
Creepy dude with his riddles makes an appearance tomorrow.
Suicide, depression, loneliness and childhood trauma are the common themes in all the cases so far. So the main plot arc, feat. creepy guy, has to be one of these.
Either he is a very old fan, before Shen Yi went cop...OR he is someone from his childhood (Shen Yi was found on the streets by his old master, who taught him to paint). Could even be his family (long lost brother?) that's why he keeps talking about genes and stuff. Gives me hardcore insect detective vibes
I haven’t seen this before. Is it BL or BL adjacent? Or is it more like Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, a purely…
Bromance with slight vibes. It's a close friend/buddy cop procedural but no romance. Though there are hints of social issues and both seasons have had lesbians so far.
I'm kind of having the same feeling. It seems a bit much how he knows everything about people's motives and the…
He left the art world because of Du Cheng. One of his paintings - an age progression portait of a child - exposed an undercover officer who was Du Cheng's partner/mentor. Du Cheng attacked him and told him to leave stop painting because they kill people which basically traumatized him. He burned his paintings and turned to criminal psychology as a way to repent. He only started painting again after his old teacher/mentor passed away, because they found he had been imitating Shen Yi's burned paintings and selling them as "Shen Yi originals" and he didn't want to mar his mentor's legacy by proving him fake.

Uh... There is a explanation. He IS a very very famous painter who specialised in human expression and portraiture. Also, he is professor of Art History at Beijang Uni. U don't be a Uni Lecturer unless you are really really good in that subject. And his subject is art, wrt psychology and human expression.
He left the art world (i.e. he stopped painting) because of Du Cheng and pursued a career as a cop, but he still works as a police sketch artist, which again deals with criminal psychology and human expressions. That's literally his field. That's literally why he was hired by the dept. and partnered with Du Cheng.
What I like about this series is that they touch on such sensitive and relevant topics, such as domestic violence,…
That's the overarching theme. s1 was about faces and masks and deceptions - what you see is not necessarily how it is. The theme of this season seems to be depression, loneliness and suicide. Considering Shen Yi himself seems like he is holding onto a very fine rope, I think we might see him crash at some point. About time Du Cheng steps up to be a good partner.
Okay, but just how smol is Tian Jian Ci... Like that creepy guy from the gallery was sitting on a stool with his legs touching the ground (freaking coconut), and our Smol king Shen Yi was at eye level with him
