I keep seeing Bai Lu in the character too, especially for the first few episodes 🙈 it took me alot of conscious…
me and my mother had the same thoughts, and we didn’t even watch the drama at the same time. li yi tong reminded us so much of bai lu— the looks, voice and acting are all so similar.

and if i'm not mistaken, nh's li shi liu side did not exist before. it was a persona spontaneously created to accomodate the changes in the story and still make the iconic scenes happen even if sym tries so hard to prevent them. so calling sym stupid for not knowing him is really not it. in the original story, nan heng was just nan heng.
ill ALWAYS defend the fl here. y'all just don't get where she's coming from because yes— nan heng is pitiful as we can also see his side of the story. but that doesn't mean the fl is being unreasonable. she knows that nan heng is not as evil as she thought he was, but that doesn't guarantee that the iconic scenes won't happen (just like how syt and nh still ended up in that room). if i were her, i also wouldn't depend on a man's intentions because my family's lives are at stake. i'd rather not take that huge of a risk. i actually liked that she didn't easily trust the supposedly killer of her family and her own self. yes, she is a bit stubborn and frustrating, but she just wants to prevent those scenes from happening. in a world where even your own actions are controlled by the script, you shouldn't be blaming sym for choosing to avoid marrying nh because that's where her character's tragedies would start in the script.
i just can’t get into fu ling and chong zhao’s story. fu ling is far too evil and manipulative for me to like her, the only thing she does that isn’t pure evil is protecting chong zhao (though she also gets obsessive). i find it hard to even imagine how will she redeem herself for all the atrocious things she did, she caused too many deaths already. i don’t even know how will chong zhao fall for the girl who killed uncle bai and his other lanling members (even forcing him to kill one of them)— or will he not? their setup bothers me a lot. (i’m at ep 16)
i really love the OST of this drama but honestly the biggest issue i have is about how overplayed they are and how unnatural the OSTs enter and exit the scenes sometimes. most of the time they just abruptly stop playing the music when it’s not supposed to end yet. some scenes felt too shallow to even have to use such an amazing OST when they could use some other background music that doesn’t stand out too much. it honestly reduces the impact of the beautiful OST when a scene will match well with it.
This drama is very fast paced, a bit too fast sometimes if I may be honest ðŸ˜The first few episodes feel like the rising action in the usual pacing of cdramas. Is there so much story to cover that there’s already so much happening? (I’m at ep 3) But at least it’s working for my short attention span recently I guess…

I’m also really bothered at Song Mo’s slim figure which doesn’t match his character description. Having fought so much battles surely should have gained him some muscle.
The drama is okay and executed well, but I had to hold it at ep 26 because I just wasn’t that intrigued in the story. I also dont feel any sort of attachment to the characters. In about the first quarter of the drama, I was convinced this was better than The Double (because the two are quite similar). However, now that I’m thinking about it, The Double had more memorable characters and scenes.
I’m still contemplating whether I should continue this or not. Does anything interesting happen later on?
ps. i already finished the drama
