It's up to you if you can accept it or not. Because the purpose of that extra eps to please the CP fans who can't accept the open/sad ending they originally planned before.
I never disregard the extra episode. Who said it's not exist? No one. But it also never changes the fact that the script writer made their own version drama ending vs the novel original ending. Both drama open/sad ending and alternate happy ending were so different with original Qian Shan Cha Ke happy ending route.
That's why many novel fans were complained why the production team changed the novel original ending because it's already very ideal to wrap up the drama.
Also, this is not The Double thread, I think I already explained them enough to you. Like i said it's up to you if you want to cherish the extra ep or not. But I already knew the truth behind the scenes.

Because the actual ending is sad ending but the producer decided to cut Duke Su/Xiao Heng death into ambiguous ending when Xue Fang Fei in red clothes wait for Xiao Heng under the tree they planted together without explanation in previous battle scenes. Actually, it supposed to be the scenes about her spirit wait for Xiao Heng to pick her up in afterlife.
Even Wang Xing Yue uploaded the actual sad ending when he was killed by the another general of enemies troops who come to the battle grounds later. He was alone in that battle without any help. But Yu Zheng (producer) was angry about it then after that WXY team decided to delete it. But people already knew the actual scenes.
It was just a sudden decision when Yu Zheng (producer) want to create their alternate happy ending (the extra fast food episode) because he was afraid that people will attack him if they served bad ending. The extra episode quality was very different with the whole main episodes. It's like a fast food production to please the CP fans. I heard Yu Zheng gathered both Wang Xing Yue and Wu Jin Yan to shot this extra ep just in 7 days before final eps of The Double.
I prefer they keep the actual sad ending. Or they can just go with novel happy ending route. Both of them are much better than ambiguous/open ending with extra eps. The happy ending novel route explained how Xiao Heng survived in the battle and how he reunited with XFF in the ending chapter. The novel writer wrote the PROCESS of it, she made the ending happily but still logical, unlike the extra eps that suddenly make XFF and XH + their daughter gathered together in 7 years later without explaining HOW Xiao Heng survived in the battle and reunited with XFF in that era. Because originally, that extra ep was made with rush decisions + instant shooting and the purpose is to pleasing the CP fans who can't accept their open ending/sad ending version.
Also, i am sorry if i need to pop your happy bubbles to hear this "actual" ending of The Double.

Don't let others influence you about this. A good story is still a good story even though it's a sad ending.
In this type of story, we can't be sure about the ending. The drama itself already changed many things from the novel. So it's unpredictable.
I am all ready to accept both happy ending and sad ending. I will just enjoy the story. Let it flow and enjoy it.
