I really enjoyed the story of this drama. It's very briliant. Xu Feng Nian is a magnet to this drama.
But it's a pity that the fighting scenes are so bad. Everything in slow-mo huh? This is claimed to be a WUXIA drama. So basically they need to create impressive fighting scenes like Condor Heroes Trilogy, Listening Snow Tower or Who Rules The World. Powerful with great speed. Not slow-mo. And they spent too much portion on CGI fighting, not a real fighting. I can say, even palace dramas (+ war dramas) got better fighting scenes than this one.
I think the actress basically had hyperhidrosis. She is also like that in another dramas. You know there is people…
Extracurricular and Love All Play (besides playing badminton). She looked "shiny" in that dramas. That's why i am not surpised with her shiny looks in this drama.
she's really suitable in sageuk, she won a daesang for her 2008 sageuk Painter of the Wind and she won baeksang…
It was a longgg time ago. You should see her appearance now. It looked like she lost her youth. Many korean netizens also said about MGY looked like a 50 year old ahjumma.
Censorship has always been strict though? Did it became stricter? because I wouldn't blame this on censorship…
It's also applicable to you as well. Remember what i said before? if you keep blaming the production team without considering their perspective then I have nothing to say to you anymore.
I already tried my best to help you understand why there is bad editing in this drama. Basically they had no choice if they want to air this drama safely. They have to cutting many scenes based on censorship final notes. If they wont do that, this drama can't be aired. Done. And it's very obvious that you dont understand how the chinese censorship works and how complicated their rules.
Censorship has always been strict though? Did it became stricter? because I wouldn't blame this on censorship…
Then YOU CAN BLAME IT TO CENSORSHIP.
How many times I said that.
Disjointed scenes are the side effect of cutting many scenes. I got what you meant but my answer will never change.
Censorship meant cutting many scenes. Cutting many scenes affected the stories and it resulted in disjointed stories + bad editing. EXCEPT they re-shoot some scenes to make the stories become more sense. But they already filmed the entire dramas. And if they cut some scenes, automatically, it will affect the scenes after that. It's hard to fix something that related to one with another except re-filming. But it needs more time + more budget + another censorship trial.
With cutting a lot of important scenes + intimate scenes, they already affected the essence of main stories. It's the side effect of cutting scenes. The scenes after scenes become disjointed in the end.
Some ppl said it's because intimate scenes between a consort and eunuch (fake or otherwise) in a historical setting. It's still a taboo in chinese society + censorship.

I will copy paste the comment from magnolia's cream thread. It was sent by Lan_Lan who read the douban post for Unchained Love thread there.
Here is a Douban post from a member of the production team about the difficulties faced to get this drama aired): "In fact, it was not easy for this drama to be aired smoothly. The trial was full of twists and turns. First, it was stuck in November because of the epidemic. After it was released, it was rejected twice because of the content and theme. In fact, it was mid-December. At that time, our project team was fully prepared for the possible postponement. It is estimated that the luck of the leading actors and our friends is very good, and the certificate was issued on 12/20. Last year, the review was particularly strict, especially for the key projects. It is ridiculous that an A-level project was changed to a key project because of the traffic(meaning Dylan's popularity due to LBFAD). The 16th (not sure what the person meant by this) is a project that my friend contacted, and it was returned and deleted after finalized. I don't know what those in charge were thinking. In fact, there is no second trial for Forbidden Love. Firstly, I am afraid that there will be changes in ancient drama's policy this year. I can say that Forbidden Love's intimate scenes are already many this year because there is no second trial."
If you keep blaming the production team when they also actually had no choice, then i have nothing to say. Enjoy your drama.
Sorry to burst your bubble. But cdramas first and foremost will always cater to their internal Chinese audience,…
Well said. You are right. I am about to say the same thing.
It's also an answer for people who kept asking the banned shows like BL dramas or the shows from banned celebrites to be purchased by international platforms like Netflix, Disney, or Viki. It's definitely impossible.
Censorship has always been strict though? Did it became stricter? because I wouldn't blame this on censorship…
No. Dont worry, Intimate scenes like kisses, hug, holding hands, etc are still okay. But they will make sure that it's not too "over". Maybe, Bed scenes are still allowed as long as it's not too "naked".
Look at point 5, the cutting scenes maybe for reducing Dylan's popularity. I am not sure also. But the director said "This drama can be released safely, it's already a good thing". Maybe bcs it was linked with eunuch things and genital/private area conversation. Because the ML is fake eunuch.
They were forced to do many cutting scenes that resulted in bad editing, it's all because of censorship. In earlier eps, the editing was still okay. But after they reached the middle point, the editing became a hot mess. If the editor cant do their job properly, maybe from ep 1, you already complained about the bad editing.
You should read magnolia cream's thread in above comment sections. Look at the 11 hours ago posts. If I can tag you in her thread, I will do that from a few hours ago. She said that this drama already got a tough trial before it was airing. So it is very unfair if you keep blaming the production team for bad editing, it's not they can't do the editing properly, but they are not allowed to give full scenes bcs of censorship. Just try to understand and read another threads. Censorship is very complicated already.

You should see the new rules of censorship for 2023.
Its not only BL. They targetted straight romantic dramas as well.
You should see the updated comment from user named "magnolia".
I copy paste the censorship new list here.
It lists new c-ent restrictions : 1. Romance dramas packaged as military dramas will not pass review. military dramas cannot use "little fresh meat" 2. Costume dramas' costumes and make-up need to be serious and fit the era 3. Actors with obvious or abnormal plastic surgery are not allowed, especially not for military or public security themed dramas. no "sissy aesthetics" and no excessive make-up 4. 60% of all dramas should be realistic, not less than 20% should be about the historical revolution 5. Variety show singers and dancers cannot lead dramas. traffic stars canot lead dramas with important issues 6. Realistic dramas are strongly encouraged 7. CP or couple marketing is not allowed
From magnolia's perspective. The unchained love got censorhip bcs of point 5 and 7. Point 5, Dylan Wang is super popular in China right now. So government want to give a restricted movement of new rising stars from now on (2023). From what I know, chinese government was pissed off because of fanwars from traffic celebrities. So they did this to reduce the influence of popular public figures + govt wanna make sure that they are still under control.
Point 7, yeah intimate scenes got affected because it was included in CP marketing
I am also always looking for romance in every drama I watched. I just dont understand some group of ppl who hate romance in dramas.
Without romance, it's so bland n boring.
But it's a pity that the fighting scenes are so bad. Everything in slow-mo huh? This is claimed to be a WUXIA drama. You know there is people who got hyperhidrosis. They are sweating a lot.
Kdramas adopted western shows multiple seasons already.
I am not a fan of it.
But Chen Yuqi is at least better in this drama. In another drama, her acting n expression are so bland and blank.

Lol what is that mean? For example, Xiao Zhan or Yang Zi cant lead a serious themed drama like humanity, laws, politics, or military?
