Yes SML is handsome. But the writer decided to put the bad character to him so ppl wont be so noisy when SML doesnt ended up with the girl. I guess the writer learned it from Start Up incident. It was a chaos between two fandoms. Some viewers who rooted for Han Ji Pyeong/Kim Sun Ho even dropped the series in around ep 13-14 when the show gave the sign that Nam Joo Hyuk will ended up with Suzy Bae. It was one of the biggest SML syndrome in kdrama history.

Actually the FL is a strong character. She only became damsel in distress for first eps only. After that she got many tragic incidents and it changed her heart. In eps 4 she commited suicide after her husband killed her family n friends, she was time travelling to the beginning of her meeting with Villain ML/Husband.
She planned her strategic revenge to her husband and arranged all of them. Its 180 degree difference from the first ep. Xing Fei really nailed the character. The Villain ML also. Jing Chao is really great in this drama. In her second life, there is no damsel in distress anymore. Its only her cold demeanor and her plan execution towards her enemies.
But for ML, Yes, he is kinda the weak version of Nice ML. Thats why he is lack of charms in this series. I still prefer the charisma of the villain lol
