Xiao Yao in the novel loved three people. Jing, Xiang, and Xuan. Ik that's not exactly a fun fact for sole shippers but it's true and the way some of you go out of your way to try and change that when there are many instances that prove that in the novel is honestly kind of strange.

In the novel in this scene Jing wouldn't kiss her cause he could see Xiang in her eyes. It was clear that the kiss was out of pity and lust for someone else. I feel like it might be hard to portray that in the show.
