I just dropped Blind after two poor executed episodes, and thinking of watching this. Hope it won’t disappoint…
This one feels much more polished than Blind imo. Its only flaw is that it seems a little slow

I can't believe we still don't have a release date for this considering it was supposed to be released in the second half of this year

will all episodes be uploaded in netflix at once like all of us are dead or will it be like AoS which is in sync…
Probably all at once since it's a Netflix original, unlike AoS which was a drama produced by tvn and Netflix simply bought the rights to stream it

The production value doesn't look too good tbh (from the trailer)...looks like their family weekend dramas. But…
I thought the same thing honesty and it kind of diminished my hype for it, but I'll still give it a try hoping that the trailer didn't give it justice

I would have given it a perfect 10 if it ended a few minutes earlier, with the shot of them staring at the sky as they get ready to die for real and leave Yonder; but the last minutes felt a little unnecessary and anticlimactic. Nonetheless I really loved this drama (especially the fifth episode, that one was flawless imo), it was devastating in a kind of peaceful way (I know it's an oxymoron, but this is how I would describe this drama). It's one of the most beautifully filmed kdramas out there and each frame felt touching and poignant. I hope to see more dramas like this in the future.

You're talking about people you don't even know and judging them, labeling them as paranoid? How? I rated this…
@THEDRAMAQUEEN123 Okay girl, I'm not in the mood to argue with strangers honestly, so I'll just ignore the last part, you probably thought it was a good comeback, but ratings on here literally don't prove anything since there are award winners movies with ratings lower than 8.0 and mediocre dramas with serious writing issues among the top rated ones.(And I also watched Strangers from Hell btw, rated it a 9 or 9.5, and I still don't understand why you would use it as a comparison here)

idk why these people down the comment section are praising this drama so much, this plot had a lot of potential…
You're talking about people you don't even know and judging them, labeling them as paranoid? How? I rated this drama an 8.5 and I watched almost every k-thriller out there and plenty of thrillers from the west too. I still don't know why people here find it so hard to accept different opinions, but anyway: nope, people being uneducated about thrillers is clearly not the reason why they like this drama

The ratings here are not looking good. Can someone throw some light on how it was recieved by the Korean audience?
From what I've seen the reactions were rather mixed in South Korea too, kinda like here. But I haven't checked recently if something has changed

As for me, I used to love this drama, but then after episode 8 I felt it went downhill because there were too…
To be honest, I think that if a person hears voices that aren't there and can't fully distinguish between reality and fantasy (like thinking of being someone who died) then that's a sign that said person may be dealing with trauma, if she wasn't affected by it she wouldn't have experienced all those things. And that's why that storyline felt strange to me. She was affected, but she wasn't. The fact that she wasn't scared by Sang A is also not really normal. She's a really young girl, and when she's confronted with death she's like "OK cool" but that's not a normal and healthy reaction imo. This is why I belive she needed to be explored more in depth as a character.

I think that 12 episodes is a fitting number for a thriller, what you said is true, but why introduce so many subplots if you aren't going to explore them? The main plot didn't need so many subplot as at the end of the day it was a simple story at its core. There were so many things that could have been erased and probably no one would have noticed if they weren't there (like In Hye having a potentially lethal illness that was used as a plot device for drama in the early episodes but that was never mentioned again or In Kyung's alcoholism).

I'm not really sure about In Kyung not being alcohol dependent. She took small sips, but how many small sips did she take in a day? She used alcohol as way to cope with her problems, it's difficult to imagine that she suddenly stopped drinking like it was no problem for her. She said herself that she had a problem and Injoo told her that she would help her. But then there was no follow up to it, even though even the opening credits highlighted it (like what's the point of using it in the credit as if it was something important to her character when it was just in two episodes?)

Now that you mention it I do recall that there was a conversation with the mother about it (was it during the call in the hospital?) even though I always suspected there was something more to it because of the way it was presented and how convinced she was that they were the same person (maybe some serous mental illness caused by the trauma). I still think that it's weird that something so important was just dropped and never mentioned again, as if In Hye got over her trauma as quickly as In Kyung got over her alcoholism.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the writer was an incompetent like some people here are saying (I do love her works with director Park Chan Wook), I just feel like the plot was too saturated for a drama that is even shorter than usual (just 12 episodes) and some things that deserved more attention ended up being sidelined or solved too quickly. This is all in my opinion of course, I probably just had wrong expectations on this drama

I'm talking about the voices she heard telling her she should leave that home, her making a drawing of her deceased little sister that she never met, her thinking that she actually was her deceased younger sister in the scene where she's with her sisters after she woke up from her illness that was the same illness the younger sister had. In the early episodes it felt like she was some sort of shaman, but they never spoke about it again, nor did they mentioned that child again. I said supernatural powers because if I had to write more details about it I should have put it under the spoiler tag

The first half was great. It was slow, but it was the right kind of slow for a story like this. The soundtrack and the camera works were great as they fittingly captured the tone of the drama. Shin Ha Kyun is able to express so much with just his eyes alone, he perfectly portrays his character's sorrowful state, and Han Ji Min looks so ethereal here, like someone that could disappear in a blink. The casting's choice was flawless in my opinion.

And the cinematography as well deserves all the praisings it can get for creating such an atmospheric and otherworldly feeling; it totally feels like something that should be viewed on theatre screen for a better and even more immsersive experience.

For now my rating is really high, I hope the second half doesn't go overboard and is able to maintain this unsettlingly thought-provoking quiet tone

Episode 1 - there was literally nothing to fix, no way of improving it.They gave enough explanation through dialogues…
Honestly even Yi Hu doesn't sound like herself even though she basically created her yonder's alterego from her own memories. There are all these little details that make her seem real, like the necklace, but she still seems lifeless, she talks in a robotic tone, it's very different from the real one in Jae Hyun's memories who is always bright, Idk if it's just my impression or if she needs time to "adjust" like Seiren said. But she totally seems fake.

And you're right about Peach, she basically created a world with her father that never existed, she fabricated the memories. There's definitely something unsettling about BYNBY that sounds too much like escapism. The more things we learn the creepier it gets. And at the end of the last episode Jae Hyun remains alone, there was nothing comforting about that scene even though they finally reunited. It should be a happy moment, instead it just feels melancholic and the cinematography emphatize the distance between them and the sense of loneliness he feels, at least that's how I interpreted it.

what's with the reviews? i understand everyone has their own taste, but i thought we all loved this show lol i…
As for me, I used to love this drama, but then after episode 8 I felt it went downhill because there were too many things happening all at once that I just became jaded. So many plot twists thrown in there in such a short time that they no longer surprised me. Too many interesting storylines being forgotten (ex. In Kyung's problems with alcohol, In Hye having a sort of supernatural power etc). Too many deus machinas used as plot device, especially in the last two episodes, that it felt difficult to take it seriously at that point. Some things were also dragged out imo, like there were things that were predictable from the beginning that were still being used as a shock factor in the final episodes (like Doil's loyalty, just to name one). I was disappointed, but I still gave it a 7 because of the directing and cinematography and because of Kim Go Eun's acting. Still, I don't think I would personally recommend this drama to anyone even though I was ready to give it a 9 in the first half (or even a 10 if it had a strong ending).
