You should consider posting this in the review section. Maybe expand it a little if you can.
I thought about it. I usually don't post anything in the reviews because most people don't even check them lol. But since it's kinda sad that this drama has only one review I'm actually considering posting it in there too.

Nope ,, he's not , watch the finale
They don't really explain the whole thing because otherwise they won't have any mystery left for season 2. What you said about Ji Han is not entirely wrong though, I mean his motivations. Won't say anything more to avoid spoilers. As for the other "friend", at this point we don't even know if he's an accomplice of Ji Han, if they were working together or separately or if he was even working against him. The ending left it ambiguous. I'm pointing it out so that at least you don't go in expecting all the answers

The ending now lives rent-free in my head. The way Taek Rok had every reason to kill Jin Han who murdered two of his dearest friends, but he also saw himself in him and grew to care about him during the time spent together, so he decided to spare him because he wanted Jin Han to do what he couldn't do: redeem himself and come back to his family. And the way Jin Han could have just killed TaekRok too and it would have been easier for him to win if he did, but instead he puts his life on the line with Chairman Jang because he didn't want him to die. I'm excited for season 2, but it will be hard to watch without their friendship.

For me this drama is going in the same tier as The King of Pigs and Through the Darkness this year. I was having a hard time finding another well written thriller with great characters and great production values after those two, but thankfully Shadow Detective delivered. I will surely do a rewatch because I feel like this drama is even better when you watch it all at once, since there are so many plot threads connected with each other and when you wait weeks for the episodes it's easy to miss something. Although complicated it never really felt convoluted because the drama stays away from cheap plot twists added just to surprise the viewer. And even if incomplete, because a second season is coming (I hope soon), it still feels quite polished.

This is an hard-boiled noir thriller, the plot is complex, the world is gritty, bleak and corrupted and its characters are antiheroes full of regrets who are mourning their loss of innocence, a reflection of the messed up hierarchical system that engulfs South Korea. You really can't trust anyone here. It's not the first drama about this topic, but this one is more bitter and pessimistic than usual, and imo, more realistic.

Don't mind the ratings and give it a go if you're a fan of the genre, or if you're a fan of the actors too because they delivered some great performances here. The chemistry and the bromance between Lee Sung Min and Jin Goo was especially good. While for the former I'm not surprised since I already knew that he was a top tier veteran actor after watching Misaeng (another gem where he stars in), I had some doubts about the latter after that mess that was A Superior Day where he underperformed, but this show truly redeems him in my eyes. The rest of the cast did a great job as well, even with less screentime.

I agree with you, imo all movies by Park Chan Wook should be at least around 8.5 minimum. He's one of the best movie makers in South Korea for a reason and that's not even up to debate lol

Auto-upload to the cloud. KTR accessed the cloud drive, I think. The phone ended up there because... magic! (Technically,…
Didn't the woman that works in tavern say that Hyun Seok himself brought the phone to her the night he went there to meet TaekRok? If I understood correctly he used one phone to film his death after he brought the other phone to the tavern and then the video was uploaded inside a shared cloud between the two phones like you said. Now I'm not tech-savvy so I don't know if it's possible to make it so that a video stops recording on its own by setting a timer on it, or if it's possible to autoupload that video on the cloud after it finishes recording, that's the only doubt that I had

He killed Hyun Seok, yes, but his inner monologues that you referenced in your past comment (the part where he asks himself "accomplice or enemy" or something along those lines while watching something on his screen) were just about the one person who brought Taekrok inside the taxi after Hyun Seok died, that's what he was focusing his investigations on in the early episodes and, if I'm recalling corrctly, that's the video he was watching during his internal monologues (a footage of a man that was getting TaekRok inside a taxi, away from the crime scene), and he wasn't confirmed as being that person. The ending reveals that there is another friend that has been calling TaekRok and even Jin Han, when TaekRok tells him that he know that's he's the friend, says something like "are you sure about it? Did you find the friend or are you just smelling his traces", hinting that there's more to the story than just Jin Han being the main villain. We just took for granted that the person who killed Hyun Seok and the person who brought Taekrok home were the same person, but with the revelation of another player that isn't necessarily an accomplice of Jin Han, then it is likely that it might be different from what we've thought. The final 10 minutes gives a whole new perspective on the story and it's obvious that they didn't answer every question and they made it so that it will remain a mystery for a while.

WHY IS THE RATING GOING DOWN no bc yall have no taste
It was 8.6 the first time I checked. I think the bad ratings are mostly from new Kim Tae Ri fans that wanted to see something else with her after 2521 ended but didn't check the genre tags of the movie

There are still two more episodes so don't worry yet.
And there is also going to be a season 2, so it was obvious they weren't going to explain everything in the first six episodes. I think they've been honest from the start because some dramas announce the second season only after it's over, or they don't do it all even though there are things unsolved. But here we have always known that it was going to be like this.

Chief Bae is still a mysterious characters so I guess we'll need to wait next episodes to get an idea of his own investigations. At this point we'll probably have to wait next season to get all the answers to our questions

I'm a little lost. Can someone explain the stuff related to the Chief Seo and Mr. Cheon? And what exactly is Detective…
If I understood correctly TaekRok is trying to understand (other than the friend's identity) what his real friend Hyun Seok who died was hiding from him since TaekRok wasn't involved in all of the police schemes. Also Friend is strictly related to his past cases so he's looking for the connection between friend, Chief Seo (the target of friend) and the cases. Friend on the other hand is looking for evidences about Chief Seo's misdeeds and he's trying to use TaekRok to get those evidences. As for Chef Seo and Mr Cheon that part confused me too because I didn't remember who Mr Cheon was (I need to rewatch the drama, this is kinda difficult to follow as it airs because if you forget something then you're done), but that's what I got from the last episode: the police is on "friendly" terms with the local gangsters (as we've seen in the first ep too) because the gangsters are more helpful as allies than as enemies, Mr. Cheon probably helped Chief Seo to get where he is, so he knows too much, that's why Chief Seo considered offing him even though they used to be friends when they were younger and Friend, who is trying to bring the truth about Chief Seo to light, is looking for him.

No but you're right buddy, I swear they do the bare minimum for promotion and it's such a shame because lately they're producing some of the most interesting dramas of the year, but even with all their money they're doing a worse job than other platforms in terms of marketing 😭
