I wouldn’t say he really knew she was insecure because of the power dynamic. Not for a while at least. And even if he knew, it would make more sense for him to quit, but how many people do what makes “more” sense? They might, but they might also not. I’m challenging the idea that the workplace is simply a “plot device”. If these two didn’t work at the same office then he would make time to go over to her place. And if they didn’t work together and he wasn’t her boss , then their issues would be different, then it would be essentially a different situation and so a different story. I mean, there are options in life that make MORE sense, but the chances we take them are 50/50. So I wouldn’t say their workplace is just a weak plot device

what does it mean for it to “make more sense”. I mean why would it make “more sense” if they broke up. Stories imiatate life. In reality, people date even when it’s not allowed and keep it under wraps for a long time, so I don’t see why this is just a “convenient” plot device. People don’t just give up their jobs just because they’re in a relationship. if they’re not ready to get married right away then it makes perfect sense to just not quit.
What I do take an issue with though, is Luke wondering why she wants to keep it a secret. That’s a plot hole. I mean, why would he suddenly not know.
