The 2 FLs have their own love interests. You mean Xiao Ding? Mujia's current boyfriend? I think he was a good boyfriend for her when they were still in school but you can see the cracks forming already. It is one of those relationships in the drama where they loved each other but bad decisions led to the end.
I think in the novel, it was almost like a trade-off because that can happen irl. That a woman so successful will have a hard time being in a romantic relationship because the man can either be insecure that the woman has a better career/richer, the man you think might be at your "level" in terms of career and mindset is already married, a younger man who might seem more fresh/open but becomes a conflict when that young man doesn't have your experience and too idealistic for you, etc.
Tian Rong (in the novel) got a very good ending being rich and having a partner who loves her a lot.
Mujia's character in the novel were involved with 4 men (I got these spoilers from a bilibili video talking about the novel):
1) Her college boyfriend/Xiao Ding: Got into the stock market because he wanted more money for the house and the stock market crashed in 2008 so he lost it all, including her mom's money. They broke up due to this.
2) Li Guang (our male lead in the drama): They slept together on their first date. Mr. Li later disclosed he was married so she basically became a mistress. In her 30s, she asked Mr. Li about their future and she wanted more so she got dumped.
3) Then she dated someone younger than her and she was trying to help him with his business but it didn't work out (the business failed). They parted ways.
4) Her ending was that she married someone who was pursuing her. She later found out that the man is gay (aka marriage of convenience).
All this was happening while she was building up her career as a lawyer. She gained lots of success as a lawyer but her romantic relationships pretty much failed in the novel.
Keep in mind the drama is not doing this LOL. There is no way CCTV would let a drama air in which the FL is a mistress. So it seems like they changed her endgame relationship in the drama to be more wholesome and happy.
Let me know if you guys want spoilers of Mujia's romantic relationships in the novel (her name is not Mujia in the novel either) LOL. Just know the novel is very different when it comes to her romantic relationships (which were really difficult/angsty) and the drama changed a lot for it to even air on CCTV.
Episode 3: I liked that Mujia still tried her best to spend time with her boyfriend because there definitely needs…
I don't know if the mother will blame her but we shall see. He is playing with his parents' money and also Mujia's mom's money so I think they will be super upset with him. I think his parents do like Mujia but their son will always come first and they can recognize Mujia has the potential to fly even higher because Mujia has that drive while Ding is kind of okay with where he is in life (there was this scene of him neglecting his work to look at the stocks and then got annoyed when his boss asked him to finish the work already since he had the past 3 days to do it).
Episode 3: I liked that Mujia still tried her best to spend time with her boyfriend because there definitely needs…
Yup! They signed the contract but they wanted to make it hard for the law firm by blocking them/the other company they will be partnered with from doing the work they need because they wanted to get more $$$ out of them.
Yes! I watched that interview too and Wang Yang mentioned how the character originally was a character who gets…
Yup! I am sure it will be a healthy relationship. Mujia is experiencing issues right now in her relationship with Ding and a lot of it stemmed from his insecurity and the growing "gap" between them in terms of their work. Li Guang will probably fit her better just based on him being established already and secured with his work/position in life.
I know ppl didn't get a chance to watch episode 3-5 yet so I am going to post my review under spoilers:
Episode 3: I liked that Mujia still tried her best to spend time with her boyfriend because there definitely needs to be a work-life balance. Mujia is starting to show more of her annoyance with Fan (Tian Rong's boyfriend) lmaoooo. I love her being snarky because that is me if my friends' partners don't treat them right. Huge yikes that Ding is risking the money for their house via the stock market... especially right after Mujia said not to risk it. His insecurity is starting to show more and more.
Episode 4: HUGE YIKES. Ding's mom already thinking it will be a problem when Ding and Mujia potentially get divorce in the future (after marriage) because Ding's parents gave more for the house... and they are worried that Mujia is too ambitious (and that Ding can't keep up). 😢 I really like Lawyer Wu as a mentor for Mujia. She praises her when she did well and guide her when she can do better. Mujia really can't ask for better mentor. She got really lucky. The moment Ding questioned Mujia how she got into the law firm... I can already tell they are destined to be over. And him questioning why he can finish his job on time but she got to do overtime... great acting between LLD and Wang Hao during the argument scene. But then they are all better again and I want to root for them so badly.
Can't wait until Tian Rong breaks up with Fan. He is the type of man who might say something "right" while also putting you down so you end up always excusing him that he still cares. Plus he keeps on comparing her to Mujia ugh. I am glad the girls' friendship held strong.
Episode 5: Tian Rong finding a job she is interested in yay! And not backing down despite the scolding. Tired of Fan's constant gaslighting of Tian Rong. Can't wait until she gets rid of him for good. And aw, so we got more of Mujia's backstory. Her dad cheated and wanted to take the house... makes sense why she didn't want her name on the house with Ding either.
5 episodes so far, the old guy just don't have that much screen time.
Yes, and based on the clips I saw, it seems like to be a really good relationship. I saw his confession clip to her and it was really realistic and attractive lmao.
I have watched recent wang yang interview, he said he faced obstacles during filming because of their age gap…
Yes! I watched that interview too and Wang Yang mentioned how the character originally was a character who gets what he wants including the female love interest because he wants it (aka typical CEO male lead character). Him and Li Landi spoke about it and they spoke to the scriptwriter on wanting to have a more sincere relationship. He was saying if his character/Li Guang got together with Mujia because HE wants it like how he gets everything in the world, then what is the point of this relationship. Based on the clips I saw, it seems like they have their relationship to be more sincere and supportive. That they got together due to love, respect, sincerity, admiration for each other as people and in their careers. I already see ppl on the C-side shipping them LOL. Saying it kind of works with how they portrayed this age gap relationship.
Episode 2: I really like Lawyer Wu. She is such a great supervisor and you can tell she truly wants to nurture Mujia and make sure she becomes someone who won't be replaceable in such a dog eat dog law industry. Tian Rong's boyfriend (Fan) trying to pit the girls against each other but it is not happening!! I saw it coming but you can start seeing the cracks with Mujia's and Ding's relationship with the shoes, her "connection", etc. :( They were so cute but it is part of growing up.
Youtube! I think they will just be subbing 1 episode a day. China is releasing 2 episodes a day except for 1st episode and last episode (they get their own day).
Just finished episode 1!!!! It was really good. I can't believe they managed to flesh out all the characters in only 1 episode already. Mujia seems like she has some backstory regarding her dad so I am sure that will impact her in some ways further down the line. I am excited to see Tian Rong's growth because she is very reliant on this "romance" she has that she doesn't really have a sense of self. I am so excited to see them both grow from their 20s to their 30s and the way work impact their lives because we know for sure it does with the trailers,
So why did he post today a photo of the launch of the film with ZYC on his weibo account? Or was it smthg else?…
ZXC followed a bunch of people (CXX is one of them) on weibo like a day before and they all ended up promoting for his film. ZXC worked with some of them before and others he haven't worked with before but theory is production/company (be it the celebs' own company or investment companies behind those celebs' drama) behind those other celebs encouraged the promotion (money being involved, business associations, etc.). I personally never see these promo posts = how close these celebs' relationships are since often times, it is not really the celebs themselves doing it out of friendship lol.
ZXC and CXX definitely know each other though as they had been schoolmates in middle school, high school, and even college. They also have some of the same friends but I won't say they are super close to each other. CXX for example is a lot closer to Cao Jie (best friend/college roommate) as they actually hang out with each other. CXX is gaining more fame recently due to TSL so I am not surprised ZXC reached out to CXX for promo.
