Yeah and no black marketing LOL. This drama got black marketing days leading up to its release and for the first few days pushing how ML wants to kill FL and how terrible that is. But nothing on some of the other current airing drama with the same set up.
The end of the new ZhaoCi MV has 4 lines that state: 他日故里逢春,昭慈相逢有时。灵柩花开,月落归家。
Translation is something like: When/If (Wei Zhao) returns to (his) hometown like the spring, ZhaoCi (Wei Zhao and Jiang Ci) will meet when the time comes. Lingjiu flower (will) bloom, returning home to Yue Luo.
I‘m watchin Kill me love me parallel to rewatching LoN and I really wonder why so many people were so outraged…
I feel like because the FL there can physically fight, they see it as more "equal", and I know they started the physical intimacy already aka kissing so people can ignore it because there is "romance".
1) Yes in the greater sense, no in terms of personal relationships due to separation/deaths (but the love is there). 2) Political driven so if you are someone who actually likes a heavy plot, this would be a good drama for you. If you are mainly in for just the romance, it is very slow burn but the development is great. 3) Intimate scene is very old-school historical aka glances, hugs, and words. There are implications of certain things being done but they are not shown to viewers. And this is a drama that IMO, doesn't need those scenes. You know the main pair are meant for each other via their shared ideals and beliefs.

I can't think of it on top of my head, but it is more like the English subtitles does translation so English speakers can understand but the Chinese dialogues are more descriptive? It is not as literal; it is like a poetic prose. There would be 4 words per line like 流水迢迢 and the English subtitles would translate the general meaning, but it doesn't fully capture the language used to covey the meaning.

Especially the dialogues written in this drama. I know the English subtitles don't really do it justice, but their dialogues are honestly really beautiful. It is just very old school C-historical drama and really not the typical C-idol historical romance dramas that are usually put out today. I appreciate this drama more and more every day.
I have been rewatching this drama and it really reminds me of the older historical romance C-drama from 20+ years ago. The theme of the greater good and everyone doing their part to bring peace to their country/people. It is a very "full" drama in terms of the characters and the characters are reflection of the bigger worldview. I really adore this drama so much.
I think when it comes to "idol" historical romance dramas, it becomes so easy to trade personal development and plot for the main romance. But the characters here, even when romance begin to bloom, don't truly forget their main purpose and goal. These characters can all stand alone as their own characters without the romance/their partners.
Jiang Ci who wants her freedom to soar the sky, Wei Zhao who wants to avenge his father, Pei Yan who wants to be a proper court official, Second Dong Lady who knows her marriage is more important than love, Cui Liang who wants to spread the beauty of the world, Yu Lian who wants justice for her people, Hong Jie who wants to become the City Lord, etc.
Their meetings and love might be fleeing, but it is something they will carry on with them as they live out their lives fulfilling their goals.
Sharing something "funny" going on with Tencent 💀:
Tencent (the platform that aired LoN) has been promoting their recently released and soon to be released dramas using puns from LoN and even taking the "Affairs Couple" ship name for their new pairs LOL. Some of the LoN drama fans are not happy with this but they are also saying well, that does prove Tencent know how well LoN did for them to do this. It seems like they are doing this on purpose too to try to get the LoN drama fans to tune in and indirectly promote those dramas that way.
Also just want to share that when LoN was airing, it pretty much topped #1 on weekly variety reports aka discussion-based ranking. What that means is that LoN has a lot of "alive" people debating and discussing this drama. A lot of dramas might be "hot" via promo/platform push (but not as many people engaging with it actively) but LoN is one of those dramas that had a lot of people actually engaging with it especially on platforms like Xiao Hong Shu.
Double standard and agenda in full force.
