Agree, she is really the only one at this time that I am following from the 95-99 actress gen. I had a couple of others before that I had positive feelings about (liked 1-2 of their dramas) but their acting in later dramas disappointed me so much (as they got more and more popular). No growth and no motivation to become better.

Thankfully LLD has been acting since she was young, professionally trained, and her acting just keeps getting better and she is passionate about this career so at least I know she won't let the popularity get to her head (if she gets any more popular).

I do hope she gets better scripts too. It is too bad her team is not that great, Tang Ren (her company) is too old-schooled for the current competition aspect of C-acting industry, etc. But she will always attract new drama fans whenever she releases dramas because of her acting. People can say all sorts of things about her but her acting is one thing they really can't hate on her about. This girl put in the work for her craft.

I heard that newest drama was the last one he signed on before he left his old company and WHR is under that company, so this drama is probably to prop her up and promote her more than anything.

PXR's best drama was "Goodbye My Princess" and it had a lot to do with the directing and having CXX as her co-star. She did her part as the FL for sure. But all her other dramas + acting have been subpar, doesn't surprise me she is turning her focus to more angsty historical dramas again since that seems to be what people remember her for.

Yeah, I think RJL does the best with "sweet" looking actresses versus ones like Reba. His drama with Reba was not good IMO.

For anyone upset about the Douban score, don't worry too much about it. I went and check and a lot of the 1 and 2 stars were already posted 1-2 days before the drama even aired. In addition, there were quite a bit of black marketing pushing how this drama is terrible in the beginning so there were people who dropped the drama and just rated it 1-2 stars.

RJL also have quite a bit of haters on Douban in general, so I wasn't that shocked by the score. The score even being 6.8 is already surprising to me because I thought the amount of 1-2 stars would be too much that the 3+ stars won't be able to pull it up. This drama also had quite a bit of non-fans watching and most aren't going to go out of their way to Douban and vote.

Douban score for the past few years have been iffy anyway plus there has been exposé left and right with production companies paying people to rate a drama bad/good. This drama did good overall, and it is a drama that many considered as one of the most solid drama this year.

I personally don't have a Douban account either, so I won't be able to score this drama like many others who actually did enjoy this drama.

I heard that drama is probably BE too. Sadly, I don't care for Peng Xiaoran so probably won't check it out or get invested too much in it.

Guess I will just keep rewatching this drama until another good one comes along haha.

Not sure if that drama will ever get released since Song Zuer is still low-key blacklisted. Maybe if her tax issues get resolved and they okay-ed her dramas to air again.

Same, it is just not the same. Plus dramas with this type of ending tend to linger even longer with "what ifs".

Tried watching some of the other newly released C-dramas and can't really get into them. Still hyper fixated on this one. 🥲

Yeah, I think the WeTV subs are decent, but I do feel like non-Chinese speakers/listeners would miss out on certain things if the translation isn't 100% accurate.

Like Wei Zhao and Jiang Ci have this repeated saying "I will do as you say" like 3 different times but I don't think non-Chinese speakers/listeners would have caught that with the subs.

I think at that point, a lot of the Yue Luo people would rather die than surrender. Just like those hostages Lu Yu kidnapped. They all rather die than allow themselves to be used as hostages. They have reached a breaking point essentially.

Yes, the English subtitles didn't fully translate a lot of them. Even Jiang Ci's and Wei Zhao's banter that include faceless cat, stray cat, night cat, etc. weren't all translated.

City Lord Hong retreating would almost be him surrendering. He rather at that point die on the battlefield than "take a knee" like Pei Yan suggested. Even if they retreated, it is not likely they can defend from the inside as easily anymore (outnumbered, a lot of them still recovering from the sickness, and Wei Zhao wasn't there to help with the strategic planning).

Some good news on C-side, this drama is being spread via words of mouth so there are more people tuning in now especially since it ended. 👏 Hope more and more people tune in; this was one of the few historical Chinese dramas in recent years where I personally have been checked in every episode and left me thinking and analyzing.

It is definitely not a fast-food type of drama and have left a deep impression on me. It is one of those dramas that got me thinking of every single character and why they do the things they do. I really enjoyed myself with this drama and again, I want to thank the production and this cast. It is by no means a "perfect" drama, but it is one that had a story to tell and told it.

1) There is a "love triangle" but it is more one-sided. Pei Yan is in love with/obsessed with Jiang Ci but Jiang Ci is really just grateful to him in the beginning. Jiang Ci and Wei Zhao are the main pair and didn't love anyone else except each other.

2) They never "officially" got together (until the end). They start falling for each other and Jiang Ci didn't recognize it until Yue Luo arc which is around the 20s episodes. But anyone could see they had feelings for each other later on and they too recognize it. Their romance is more action-based than anything (glances, hugs, risking their lives for each other, etc.)

3) "The breakup" would be when Jiang Ci found out about Wei Zhao lying about certain things which is again around the end of Yue Luo arc (towards the end of 20s episodes). Again, their romance is very entangled with politics, Jiang Ci for example might be upset with Wei Zhao but within the same episode (such as episode 34), she will also work with him.

4) It is a sad ending in terms of relationships (Wei Zhao died but they have a child) but a happy ending in terms of the characters achieving their goals.
