Does the novel focus on the gay couple or the straight couple?
if you read the webtoon, you'd notice that in a display of homophobia, the television adaptation discarded the second gay couple, opting instead to set playboy chan young up with ji yu, the girl he was friends with
it would've been more respectful and imaginative for the producers to create their own half-gay, half-straight story. bastardizing a gay work, ruining a man-woman friendship, to suit a wider audience that's less accepting of gay themes is lazy and ridiculous
Does the novel focus on the gay couple or the straight couple?
the main characters of the webtoon (the source material) are two gay couples. lee hee su and kim seung won, han sun woo and yoo dahm. there are no "straight" couples
real😔 like its so different from those other thai drama, like the tension between them is just insane cus when…
the girls' chemistry is off the charts! they're communicating more with their eyes than with words
thai bls and gls have paved the way, creating a space for gay/lesbian stories to be told, and korean bls and gls are taking it to the next level. they’re pushing the envelope with their own take on gay/lesbian romance
korea should keep the momentum going and keep inspiring
can someone tell me if this is legit GL? or sismance? or is it queer-baiting? i need answers before i start watching.…
the drama either is a gl or has the potential to develop into one. the production team (intentionally or unintentionally) planted seeds of romance between the female leads. their stolen glances, gentle touches, and unspoken devotion towards each other whisper of a love that can be awakened with the simple words, "i like you" or "go out with me"
accusations of "queer-baiting" are invalidated by su bin (seul gi)'s dream of kissing hye ri (je i) in episode 4, as well as hye ri (je i)'s consistent desire to protect her girl. in episode 8, hye ri (je i) leans in close to su bin (seul gi), teasing a kiss that's replaced by a moment of them enjoying a romantic night watching fireworks
Oh, put a sock in it. Let's actually watch the drama before we make up our mind, shall we.
i'll watch it and given the entertainment industry's history of subpar, censored adaptations of gay works, i've prepared myself for the worst-case scenario
it's not as simple as fear of stirring controversy... it's fear of actual prison
i was referring to the issue of homophobic censorship that occurs around the globe. more "liberal" regions are motivated by corporate profit and fear of losing viewers. more "conservative" regions are motivated by fear of imprisonment and execution
for example, islam is the dominant religion of my country. the creation and distribution of gay media is illegal. and disclosing my sexuality to anyone other than my ex-muslim parents and siblings would result in my being reported to the "authorities" and arrested. i sympathize with the fear chinese media creators feel, and at the same time, i'm tired of our community being erased in real life and media
Yo wait this cast is CRAZY, Got7 and that IZ*ONE girl
although the main plot is a mystery thriller, the relationship between the female leads, with its romantic undertones, provides a refreshing change from the "straightness" that dominates media. in the coming years, i wish to see an influx of narratives where gay/lesbian romance is the main plot/an essential component of the plot that's blended with other genres and given the depth and attention it deserves
the female leads are attracted to each other, and their feelings are conveyed through the lgb tag in place of the romance tag, as the relationship between them is subtle and open to interpretation. to some people, it’s a mutual crush waiting for the girls to take it to the next level. to others, the small gestures are expressions of romance
women are allowed to find other women sexually attractive, and men are allowed to find other men sexually attractive. embrace the rainbow with pride, everyone!
Omg this drama is literally getting better. I am surprised that i have to say this because it's somehow uncommon…
"And Young Jae? Pls i need him as a villain and as a ML in a drama"
picture this: young jae playing the role of a cunning, morally ambiguous man who, over the course of a bl/gay drama, falls for a soft-hearted man and discovers his own capacity for love and kindness. it'd be a journey of self-discovery and redemption, each of them bringing out the best in the other. i’d be invested in that combination of drama, romance, and character development
I kind of ship Nam Byeong-Jin and Je Yis older sister and the fact that Choi is younger than Hye-Ri in rl is crazy.…
i’m a firm believer in the power of gay/lesbian relationships. the "straight" lifestyle doesn't float my boat, and i'd rather see young jae (byeong jin) form a symbiotic relationship with a rock than end up with a girl
Guys what do we watch after this drama😔😞💔💔 I literally dont know if i can forget about them💔💔
my heart aches right alongside yours!
we won't be able to let go of hye ri (je i) and su bin (seul gi), or their dynamic. why not plan a rewatch party after the last episode? i'll bring popcorn and tissues
honestly i m satisfied with hugs (especially back hugs). If only they just keep this up till the end.....
i'd settle for a hug, so long as it hints at/signifies a future of happiness, lasting love, and devotion between the girls. if they seal the deal with a hug and a kiss, i wouldn’t object to the sweet gesture
je i's "father" isn't a nice person. in episode 3, we discovered that he took advantage of his daughters’ competitive spirits to "motivate" them and improve their school performances. and by "motivate," we mean "threaten with bodily harm"
"beat your sister in the quiz, or get beaten by her," he'd say (episode 3, 2:45-3:40). that's not parenting, that's child abuse. the road to academic excellence doesn't have to involve sibling rivalries that border on an intense, winner-takes-all cage match
on top of that, tae jun's actions in episodes 4-8 have raised more than a few red flags. i don't trust him
hye ri (je i) and su bin (seul gi) ignite the screen with their chemistry. the two talented actresses look like they could rule the world together. how magical would it be to see hye ri (je i) and su bin (seul gi) in another gl where their love story is front and center, where woo ri (gyeong) joins in on the journey of being enamored with another woman! but even the gl subplot here makes my cold, jaded heart melt in gratitude. blessed be the gay gods/goddesses, i'll cherish these precious, scarce, moments of gay visibility
You exactly said the reason. Because the chemistry is chemistrying. I was well aware when I started watching that…
gl is a part of the story. the audience can’t be blamed for expecting a more gl-centric content when the drama is dripping with chemistry between the female leads
it would've been more respectful and imaginative for the producers to create their own half-gay, half-straight story. bastardizing a gay work, ruining a man-woman friendship, to suit a wider audience that's less accepting of gay themes is lazy and ridiculous

i recommend watching it for yourselves
bl/gay romance isn't one-dimensional. it can contain layers of intrigue, depth, and complexity, which would be the case with this bl/gay story
for example, islam is the dominant religion of my country. the creation and distribution of gay media is illegal. and disclosing my sexuality to anyone other than my ex-muslim parents and siblings would result in my being reported to the "authorities" and arrested. i sympathize with the fear chinese media creators feel, and at the same time, i'm tired of our community being erased in real life and media
