My point is that from the character's POV some may consider this kind of a resolution a happy ending. Not me personally. I don't want it. In fact, I would hate it.

Just to play devil's advocate for a minute, did you watch Nirvana in Fire? Would you call that ending sad? You know pretty much throughout the drama that the ML is doomed, but he accomplished all his goals so the ending was satisfying. If he was cured at the last minute, it would have been a cop-out. But I don't want this kind of ending here.

Yeah, this is the version of a "happy ending" I am afraid of - you have done all you wanted to do, your good name is restored and your beloved is well. The Love of Nirvana-type "happy ending". Thanks but no thanks.

Both ML and FL get poisoned. There is only one antidote, so ML gives it to FL. ML becomes emperor, but does shortly afterwards. FL becomes Empress Dowager and their child becomes emperor. In other words, a very bittersweet ending.

Seriously, but for being their enemy, Eagle King would make a better emperor.

Well, if he doesn't want the d*man title and Li Mao does, so be it. The title is a shackle. He has carried that burden long enough.I just want them happy and alive. We will see, I suppose.

I am planning to watch Lu Xiaofeng too, but it has so many good actors - I am not counting on him to carry it :).

I have felt the same way about Riley in the past and I really can't anymore. Pretty privilege really is a thing :).

I kind of feel that he is playing Li Mao in the same wishy-washy and indecisive way as he did his character in Fate Chooses You. Except that in Fate Chooses You his character wasn't as essential to the plot so it wasn't as noticeable. I'm realizing that the only drama I really liked him in was A Dream Within A Dream, where his character was really well-written.

And a lot of costumes are just wrong for the time period. Half the time the ML looks like he stepped out of a modern awards show. Ugh

But I need to know how it ends before I see the rest of it. Because unfortunately a "happy ending" for an ML in a drama like this may well mean getting all he wants done done and restoring his good name. Not surviving. Ugh. I hope I am wrong.

I think this drama is phenomenal. The cast and the crew have done an amazing job.

I'll believe it when I see it. They said Fate Chooses You would have a happy ending. Sure it did, if what you meant was that the two main characters were alive.

Peter Ho is great at playing twisted villains. First Murong Gao Gong and now this.
