Something in the rain... Or the secret love affair .... Haven't found dramas that really just hit me with that…
Its been 6 months since my love affair with The Untamed and I will admit that I haven't been as sucked into one like that since. I've enjoyed several, but no heart pounding, gut wrenching, cry my eyes out, laugh my head off since. Sometimes, we just need a while to adjust our expectations down.

On the flip side, I've been reading Priest's books. She's good. Guardian may have been a disappointing show compared to the book but her stories are on point. If you want to get sucked in, try reading one.

Why was Kim Bum inactive for so many years? He could have shined in so many doramas. What a loss for the viewers…
He was ill for a time from a show and he also did his 2 year stint in the military.

Isn't he the best in this show? I love Lee Dong Wook in everything he does, but Kim Kum has me intrigued.

So my ideal type before and after k-dramas looks somewhat similar to yours. Kinda funny! (Except Park Hae Jin is still my #1 oppa).

Great Article. My first K-drama was Falling for Innocence or called Beating Heart on Netflix. Jung Kyung Ho is phenomenal. From that moment on he became my favorite Korean actor - still is. Once I was hooked, I was a sucker.

I love k-dramas that are supernatural. Korean's do that better than anyone. I loved my experience so much that I'm even taking Korean classes and even learning how to write Hangul (the alphabet).

My tip for beginners is to read articles like this and find a show that sounds interesting then try it out. K-dramas run the gambit from horror to realistic drama to fantasy to historical. There's no shortage of subjects or sigh.....beautiful oppas - Korean for boyfriend well actually means big brother but its used like boyfriend or crush - (my 2 favorite Korean oppas are Park Hae Jin and Gong Yoo....but Lee Dong Wook is a close 3rd).

where is everyone reading the novel?
Zhen Hun can be found places like Wattpad and Novel Updates - I have purchased the Chinese version myself so that Priest gets the royalties (I hope).

For the record, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE another pairing of Lee Dong Wook and Gong Yoo, my favorite bromance ever.

WOW, I plan on watching this show 16 times, so I can suffer from Lan Zhan and the 16 years he waited for Wei Ying!
In my humble opinion, that would not be a bad goal in life.

Ditto. I agree 100%.

I read the novel first. And I didn't even knew that there was a drama adaptation. Bt I was sooo excited to watch…
You brought up a great point! One thing I don't like is the modern c-dramas. They are just too lame and likely much due to censorship. At first censorship seems harmless, no violence, no sex, but then other things are censored, bullying, police corruption, racism, and so forth. TV, at best, teaches as well as entertains - subjects should be talked about. Censorship lessens the ability to do both.

What do you mean when you say that there's a taboo against time travel and only 15% can be historical? China loves…
Only 15% of their television content is allowed to be costume dramas. The government says its opulence is a bad influence. Time travel is not scientifically proven. The government wants there to be scientific reason behind any plot on television.

Interesting article! I didn’t know specifically what the Chinese government censored (except LGBTQ+) so that…
In China they have restricted costume dramas to 15% of shows on television. Although I don't think Guardian counts that much because their costumes were pretty low budget and not opulent like others - the government doesn't like the opulence being shown.

Wow. You have given me some interesting tidbits I did not know about Guardian. I hope you read the book. I felt it was just flawless entertainment (but I'm kinda strange so....).

So while I may disagree with your conclusions, I am far from angry. I LOVE THIS DISCUSSION! I am the self-declared captain of team Runyu and still love the antihero portrayal by the wonderful Luo Yunxi the best in the world. I loved what you pulled together. He had so many inconsistencies that made him so complex. I do agree with you that he doesn't have a clue as to what love is and that's what makes him so wonderful and sad. Heck....I could go on for hours on what a fabulous character Runyu is. I hope everyone wants to argue.....Because its a fun argument!
