It's great to go on amazon or other sites and see MDZS/TGCF or Scum Villain as NY Times Bestsellers. And it's also great to go on amazon of a European country and see them as English language bestsellers. And the reason I am writing this here, is because this incredible adaptaion, the team, and the Actors are the ones that made MXTX works known to the international readers and therefore, they should also be thanked for this, together with the Author.
Something else quickly from Cho-Na I will disagree with, mentioning "Yibo suits in non romance dramas". Based on which of his works? I am not even sure, this type of a statement would be true about any actor, because a good actor can transform completely based on the role, story, Director, after all... Especially a young Asian Actor. But in Yibo's case, I don't even have to go this far to mention this, because any one of his roles (including as Lan Wangji, by the way), already shows the opposite.
I am so impatient for this, but I am also impatient for the 2nd season of the Donghua. The trailer and the song are so beautiful. And it includes the Ghost City Scene from the book that's one of my favourites...The veil opening and us discovering Hua Cheng... Too beautiful...
I'll share some cute info, in case people don't know about this.
Do you know that R1SE (including Zhai Xiaowen) sang the ending song for Season 2 of MDZS donghua? On top of all It was written by Lin Hai... So he had a connection to MXTX works from before.... ❤️
The popularity list on mdl isn't actual. 1 to 10 here is does not reflect popularity, but only number of clicks on the icon. An actor that's been longer in industry might have more likes. I am going to take this occasion and promote The Worlwind Girl with yang yang. He's playing a Coach in a martial arts schooL. it's a shame if people miss this because it's older. This isn't the first time, Cho-Na includes XZ in the articles, and therefore, this time, I will say a little more. If we are writing an article about Actors (using them on the Cover), it should be to promote their notable works, and not discourage from watching them. Especially, in case of cql, since the chance is more than 99 percent that, the person will end up disagreeing with us. This isn't considerate of the viewers.. Discouraging to watch a drama that started a wave of interest in Chinese dramas and entertainment, when writing an article to introduce chinese actors, seems wrong, too. There are singular dramas that can claim this type of influence. I didn't mention this about the last article , but also bringing up incidents that are long forgotten isn't what a fan should do.. The same about some random low quality post from people craving attention. Since we are on a Drama page and not a 'people' magazine,I think the Articles should be about cinema, otherwise, we are spreading the wrong culture. To finish this on something positive. About Yibo. Who's always such a pleasure and delight to watch. Since people will watch his dramas anyway, I'll promote Street Dance 4. This is a really entertaining, great show. Battles, lots of choreographed dances, fun interactions, nice stage designs, costumes, talented people, nice music... I highly recommend to watch it. I am going to discourage anyone from replying to me with such phrases like 'the author has the right to express her opinion', because my answer is going to be the same. She has, and so does everyone else.
I doubt they would even notice the difference between good or bad acting. For some people here it just matters…
Cherry Magic and Kieta Hatsukoi are romantic COMEDIES (one of them a fantasy), and Utsukushii is a romance but isn't a comedy. And I think, someone should correct me if am wrong, the two are adapted from a manga, while Utsukushii is adapted from a Novel. And the Author has a very interesting style of storytelling that got transcribed into the drama to a certain extent, because of some inner monologues. And therefore, I really can't see, how it is possible to expect to see similar characters. Not even speaking of the fact, that even if they did belong to the same genre, I don't see why someone would expect to see the same thing all over again, instead of appreciating what's unique.
This was really hard to watch to be quite frank. I tried to love it, I really did, but the drama felt PAINFULLY…
I don't know where your statement comes from, since you haven't read the novel, but from someone who has watched the drama and read the novel many times, I will tell you that the statement 'the original had to be altered' is already wrong. But before getting to Untamed, about adaptations in general. A good adaptation can never 'repeat' or 'copy' a book. Because literature, TV, Film, animation... All of these have different rules. Writing a script is also different than writing a book. And this is why, they had to work on the script during the two years of preproduction, and write different scripts to choose one in the end. And if you were to be familiar with a filming process in general, then during filming, the director, might even altogether put aside a script and film according to his vision, actors may improvise, and all of this is because whether it is a script or directing or acting, this is a creative process.
And if we were to get back to the Untamed, then this adaptation is TRUE to the original. And the producers cared for it to be, , since the book already had a fanbase in China. And if it weren't, then the fans of the novel, as well as those who discovered it afterwards, wouldn't all agree that this is an incredible adaptation, and that no actors could have portrayed the characters better.
Since you mentioned that this was underdeveloped. I need to ask you. Which part of the story? And please include spoilers should you answer. Because to me, this IS a reference of how a story and characters should be developed. And one thing this drama is praised for.
About the acting.. Today, I have the privilege of not defending the acting in this drama, especially that, I am going to be brutally honest here, I don't think everyone can judge acting. You will think that I can't judge it, while I will think you can't. So this type of discussion will bring to nothing. But, if this drama managed to create the emotions it did for its viewers, it's because the actors acted their hearts out. Why did these actors become so popular after the drama, for millions of viewers. Because they manage to affect them with their Acting, and leave everlasting impressions and memories.
I can see that you rated squid game pretty high? And therefore, my question is... People brutally killing each…
So however the human relations are portrayed in a drama you like, they can be excused as showing human nature, but if romance isn't enough conventional for you (and I should stress for you), in a drama you didn't like, then, it should be labeled as toxic. Cambrian period. Doesn't the relationship start by two people having sex because the girl had taken an aphrodisiac? Is this what you call a healthy relationship? I don't want to be misunderstood by anyone. I don't think any of my examples I brought is about toxic relationship. To me, this type of 'evaluation' isn't even evaluation. And this word isn't even in my vocabulary when I analyse fiction:) I am just bringing examples to make my point clear about standards. If I like something, then, I don't care about how the relationship is portrayed, if I don't like it, then I call toxic, even though it's more harmless than what I like. Not talking about the fact, that if the leads are m/f, then there is no limit as to what can be excused or considered perfectly healthy.
To make sure I tell this once. This is an innocent romance. And nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, can be called toxic here. And this is the reason I responded to the post. Not because of your preferences, which isn't my concern at all. It's one thing not to like a drama, it's another, to label a romance, because of wrong standards, because you didn't pay attention to the characters or the plot, to what happens on the screen or what is written in the text, or because it all comes down to fighting over ratings in the end...
I am just thinking about watching it, but a missing romance keeps from watching it ;)
By the way, I answere from mt perspective since I never check genres and tags, but if you check the genre on Iqiyi (iqiyi produced this drama), the type of drama is 'romance' and romance only by the way...
The second guy was actually better. Kiyoi is a walking red flag. Toxic relationship tbh.Story and acting sucks.…
I can see that you rated squid game pretty high? And therefore, my question is... People brutally killing each other apparently isn't 'toxicity' for you, but asking soleone for a drink, in order to protect him on top of all, is?
Flower of evil is rated pretty high on your list. too. Lying to someone about your identity and marrying isn't something wrong I guess, but how dare one boy call another weird even if he is smiling...:)
I don't have anything against the dramas I listed, by the way, especially that i love ljk... I am writing this because I can't stand these standards. Double standards and this type of understanding of morality, even if we forget that we are watching works of fiction.
Otherwise, saying that one character is better than another etc... This is quite funny because the answer tto why one guy and not another, is provided by the character himself. The one you like? Loud and clear...
When reading something like this, I only think of one thing, that 'the beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. Because I read one review where the viewer watches the screen and sees a character enter the room 'covered in sakura petals' (figuratively if this isn't clear for those who can't read behind the lines:)) and another that watches and sees a blank screen, or even worse, a character covered in mud.
A really good film should surprise, be different from others, offer more than all of the others. And this is why this drama is so great. And if you can't understandsomething because it is slightly different from what you are used to see, I am going to tell it honestly, the problem lies with you... The same about acting. If you can't understand that acting schoo's are different because of theatre and theatre practitioners and you won't see the same acting in korea, china, japan or russia, and on top of all not considering the genre and the style of the work, then you shouldn't be judging about it. You can say 'i don't like it' and it'll be fine, but if you say 'it's bad', then, well, I beg to differ:)
Not liking something is a preference noone can argue with, but your comment is about something else. And therefore I have no choice but refute.
I binge-watched this in 3-4 days and finished watching yesterday. I was hooked very quickly, within the first few episodes. And therefore, first thing I am going to recommend, is to give this a try and then very quickly you'll get the feel of it. Even though, you have to know that it only gets better with each episode to conclude with a strong, overwhelming ending. While watching I didn't know whether I'd watch it again, but after watching the ending episodes, I realized I'll come back to it one day.
I guess the reason why it took me a while to give this a try, is because I thought it would be a more literary film, may be more dramatic. And it's not that I don't like literary films, on the contrary, but I am not always in mood for them. And in fact I was mistaken, because while it is quite poetic and artistic, especially that one of the leads is an artist (the other is a businessman, but his skills aren't any less:), it's entertaining and light hearted most of the times.
The story is very interesting, and there are many characters in the drama, but there isn'tone that you wished weren't there.
A special note for the Cast. Excellent every single one of them. I need to mention Yin Zheng separately. You don't see this type of acting in a drama every day.
When it comes to dramas with two males, I feel that what preoccupies most some users on mdl is labeling the relationship and on top of all trying to persuade everyone else that the most they can see is a bromance. But what users on mdl should remember is that it's important to not take the information you read as written. First of all, there are dramas that demand more from viewers than others, when it comes to understanding the relationships. And also, what's going to be important is YOU, and noone can watch this with your own eyes and tell you as to what it is you are going to see. And also, when it comes to mdl, I am afraid, I also have to mention that viewers should learn how to 'filter' the posts, because, while there are people who visit pages to give genuine recommendations, there are those who do it for other reasons, while there are poeple who watch with an open mind to understand the drama, there are also those who have decided way before they are watching as to what they are going to see.
If I were to give my opinion about the relationship in this drama, I'd be spoiling it for everyone. I think the depth of this relationship should be discovered by the viewer little by little, while watching... One thing though, that tge genre of the drama is Romance. One thing I should tell, I loved lots of things about this drama, but it's because of the relationship and how it's portrayed, that I would have not wanted to miss this.
I am just thinking about watching it, but a missing romance keeps from watching it ;)
The question is though as to why do you believe that there is no romance in it and what's the definition of romance? If this is what's keeping you, then you should watch it.
This board is heavily over-represented by clueless and generally negative-minded western audiences who cannot…
Can this drama even be considered having adult themes? It's for 15+ on Viki after all. And it's not complex. It's just not for primitive minds, in my opinion. And the problem here isn't just the mind but the personality and behavior. Because, a normal person, even if he or she does not understand something, should still be capable to behave with decency. Otherwise, I remember seing some sites on the Net showing who are the mdl users, and I don't think we can define them as West. Amongst the countries, there was US, India, Indonesia, Canada, Middle East. other... I preferred it when MDL was more transparent about the ratings, and we could see the number and percentage of votes per rating. Because, as the term transparent says, the ratings told us more. For example, we could see that Chinese high rated dramas had more 1s than Korean dramas, and this doesn't even need any commenting... All this said, I agree with Ginger Ale, that the most important is supporting the drama officially. But I also believe that the users could request mdl to consider providing more transparency over ratings and even control them in a way that won't permit users to downvote a drama. We are all here to enjoy dramas, and if users are doing something that is going to discourage people to watch, this shouldn't be in anyone's interest after all. Transparency of percentage per vote is very important. For example when I go to another platform and see that more than 60 percent of viewers gives the HIGHEST vote to the drama, this is a very important number. Even the highest rated dramas on mdl didn't have this kind of stats (apart from CQL). Anyway, the important thing is to support this on pff cial channels. This drama is absolutely perfect. And no rating is goIng to change this fact.
And the reason I am writing this here, is because this incredible adaptaion, the team, and the Actors are the ones that made MXTX works known to the international readers and therefore, they should also be thanked for this, together with the Author.
