I can understand if you feel that way, but I didn't. We can have a 20 episode drama and still not have any character development at all. And I am not saying this in theory. I never even speak of 'character' when speaking of 95 percent of dramas I've watched. To me the characters were really three dimensional from the moment they appeared on the screen. Both the writing and tthe acting were so great, that at no point of time did I feel that anything was missing to perfectly understand their story and believe everything that happened on the screen.

And I think, the modernity of this drama is one of the factors of such a success. If this was a longer drama of another format, I am convinced that it wouldn't be the same, and may be, it wouldn't even manage to hit the viewer the way it did...

Even a thirty minute adaptation based on a 300 page book can be perfect, therefore I don't understand such concepts as conversations missing... Sorry.

Japanese short dramas aren't to be compared to other countries. The original writing, the traditions of cinematography, the actors chosen... None of these can be compared to others. Not just this drama, in fact, I saw a few other Japanese dramas of the same format that are very well done. This one's my favourite, but even the others were well written, filmed, without being rushed or missing anything. And what they were missing for me, had nothing to do with length.

To me, this drama is perfect, and I mean literally...

If a shorter drama couldn't be as perfect in terms of development, as a long drama, then we would be saying that a drama is a more perfect phenomenon than a film, whereas it's the opposite.
Therefore a hype can surround a short drama as much as a long one.
While I wouldn't mind this drama to be 20 times longer:))), the truth is, I didn't think anything was missing from it. On the contrary, to me, it's one of those extremely rare cases, when I would be afraid for a single thing to change and break the wholesomeness...

In this case, the shortness to me is a strength since it allowed to attain 'perfection'.

The thing is, CQL got me into Chinese dramas and entertainment. And I think if I had not seen CQL 2 years ago, my entertainment life:) might have been dull... By 2019, I was pretty much watching dramas out of habit than really truly enjoying them. CQL got me into Chinese dramas, language, entertainment... There's so much stuff I've watched or read, that have a 'connection' to the Untamed, MDZS, the Author of MDZS, the Leads, that all of this really filled my live with extremely enjoyable art and entertainment.

This said, CQL and WoH aren't connected in any way. And therefore, whether you watch one or the other first, it won't change anything. And you don't need to see one to see the other...

I like your thoughts about kiyoi's question. And I think you're right that, may be, he wanted our hira 'to think'
And though in the second 'i'm hot' i feel excitement mostly, I think that there are layers there... In his overall interpretation, there's definitely the 'emotion', that he wanted to be understood. or the '"frustration" to be musunderstood (even though i feel i should find better suited word than frustration). But that's not important, since we understand what wean... I had seen this in some obvious scenes, but on my first watch, I had missed this in his overall interpretation.

When I say I missed things, it's mostly about acting. I mean, the main lines, it's impossible to miss them even with closed eyes...But the subtleties of acting.. I saw them when rewatching. It's amazingly true about the layers... but, when I think about it, it's quite logical too, that japanese can make such a perfect film. I don't watch japanese dramas, because I am in a Chinese phase, but I am saying this considering history of japanese cinematography.

I want to say I hope. I also think there's a chance? But then I remember, that it's so rare when a drama or a film gets a season 2 that's as good as the first... So, I hope it'll get one, but only if it's going to be as perfect.

There are quite some funny moments in this drama. Like when Hira says 'I am at home but have a feeling that I want to go home'. lol

I think it was obvious to us, as it was obvious to Hira, that Kiyoi didn't want to be there. In fact he wanted to be with Hira:) But, Kiyoi, with, or without girls, I think, he didn't treat these people as friends (for obvious reasons:), and he was surrounded by them, but was not interested in passing his time with them. He is so 'uninterested', when the girl surround him to ask about the beach:) lol And he obviously wanted to go buy the ice-cream...

I definitely think there are emotions under 'it's hot', but I interpret them differently. I think it has nothing to do any more with people who they left behind, but it has to do with him being with Hira. The first 'it's hot', is probably to just say something, since they want to be around each other, but they don't have common topics yet:), it's to speak when you don't know yet, what to speak about. And the second, is shouted, since he is excited. Because he is alone with Hira, in a nice place, far from others...

And the sorry, was funny, again:)
I didn't laugh the first time I watched this, but now when I am rewatching, I think Hira has a great sense of humour:)

This drama is very interestingly done. Because when I watched it first time, I watched it kind of from Hira's point of view. And of course, personally, I was also so taken by the actor, so I missed some things about Kiyoi. I liked him from the beginning, that's for sure, and to me, some things were obvious, (as I think they can't not be), such as liking hira, protecting hira, wanting hira to confess, etc.., But I had missed that he was flustered (I hope I am using the right word). I kind of missed the 'depth of the emotions' on kiyoi's side. And now, when I am rewatching, I don't see how I missed that....
But now that I think abou this, this is also the ORIGINALITY of this drama. The intention of the film. Since they wanted to have a twist... If you saw everything in a crystal clear manner from the beginning, the twist in storytelling would become meaningless... ❤️

I watched the special again yesterday, and even thought it's not part of the movie, and is filmed differently, it's cute. And, the truth is, some things are felt even if not analysed, right? But if I had to analyse the date, how great it was when Kiyoi asked him to 'keep his head up' (❤️). And I also remembered how each time Hira apologized in the drama, he didn't like it... All these little things, meant a lot of things... And they were very romantic...
