Do I recommend watching it once? Yes.However, is it a favourite for me, do I think it is a great drama? No.I watched…
First of all, they should have completely removed the 'romance'. There was no need for it, and mostly because it didn't get developed at all. There are dramas where the themes of romance and friendship are developed equally, side by side, so it is very well possible to do it, but it wasn't the case in this one. And there was no chemistry between Hu Ge and the actress who played the princess. They should have concentrated, focused more on the friendship and they should have included more scenes between the two leads and it would created a better balance between different elements of the Drama (like in the korean Warrior Baek Dong Su, for example, or in the Kingdom of the Winds). One thing I can't understand is that there was no 'reunion' Scene between the friends, after Prince Jing understood it was him. I almost re-winded to see if I did not miss anything... I did not like the ending, and not because it was sad or happy ending (that is not the important), but because it was not an impressive ending. To an extent that I have forgotten how it ended (not the story, but the scenes). It took me a while to watch the first 10 episodes, but that I can forgive, and I did want to fast forward sometimes.
Do I recommend watching it once? Yes. However, is it a favourite for me, do I think it is a great drama? No. I watched once (I am glad I did), will not rewatch. What's left with me after it ended, are a few (really 2-3) nice moments that evoked some emotions. Mostly what I reproach this Drama is that there is no balance between different elements you want to watch a Drama for. They focused on the plot elements (the political intrigues) not focusing enough on the characters, relationships, etc... Most of the actors are good in my opinion (I preferred Prince Jing and the kid), the writing was somewhat consistent, unlike in many Dramas (although too political for my taste, and with a few major flaws. I'll include a spoiler about this part).
In case people are wondering - the novel has been completely translated to English - https://www.novelupdates.com/series/guardian/
Heyyyy, I opened the page since I am watching this Drama now and here you are! I am halfway through for the moment. I have learnt not to read anything before watching a Drama so I had no idea this was based on a Novel. Have you read it?
I recommend watching it, despite the writing problems... I will not cite the problems not to give spoilers, but this is one of those Dramas that make you think that half was written by one writer, and then another writer took over... Major writing problems. Despite this, it is worth watching and was entertaining most of the time. One actor I want to mention is Deng Lun. He doesn't have a big role but is very nice in it (I watched his other dramas after I saw him in this one). The OST is very nice, and I listen to it, even after having finished watching this drama a few months ago.
There were 3 good things about it, the Soundtrack, Deng Lun, and some cute moments between the two leads.
But there were many things I didn't like about it : the second lead (the writing is not serious enough for me to criticize the character, but I really disliked the acting), boring secondary characters, aesthetically "too much" (too many "fantasy" elements, colours, (I almost dropped it); the writing (it just went all over the place...)
This could be a better drama, if it was cut into 3..
With all the criticism, though, I still recommend watching it for what's good in it.
You can only vote 1 actor in this list tho..if you read the description..it said "you can vote once..you can remove…
The same thing should apply to the other lists then, however, I could vote for two people in another liss. Also, if we can only vote for one person for 100 points in this list, then the participant cannot have 14598 points for example, which means, that some users have voted for 2nd or 3rd place too. I think the description saying you can vote once is not accurate. You can vote once but for 3 places (1st, 2nd and 3rd), however, it allows me to do it on some of the lists and not on the others. Seems like something is not working. No?
I've tried for 3/4 times to add a second actor for 99 points, and still do not manage. I can't get the principle. Can someone explain? I'll ask the person who created the list, too...
Are there any scenes in the special edition that aren't there in the original Untamed?
Yes. There are new scenes. And each episode has a title... Some scenes are "assembled" differently and evoke a new feeling... I can understand you watched and loved the original. Watch this version, too.
I must tell you, I hardly ever read any reviews. Or I read just a few sentences. However, I read this one, since I noticed it was written by you. I started watching the drama after your review and I like it entertaining so far. As to Deng Lun, after I watched Princess Agents (I think he is very nice in it), I started watching all his dramas one after another. Anyway, thanks for the review.
I prefer the Original ending. And for me, it was never an open ending... This way or the other, the ending is…
I never saw it that way (for me it is a little primitive way of thinking, and I am saying it, since you are not at the origin of that thought), and as you can see, here, they did not 'reverse' the scenes, but just used the waterfall scene. I love the waterfall scene, but, as an ending, I love the original one. How to say this? The original ending is Perfect for me. No other ending can be better! If for example someone watches the Special Edition and does not watch the original and does not see the ending of the original, that person is really going to miss something important... (and I do not mean plotwise...)
only minuscule changes like longer stares and so onhere are some comparison videos made by official WeTV channel:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Znr1cxWHw1Ehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3U_NDvocMUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2QLxgKblW4
If you know well the original, you will see the differences when rewatching, so should not worry about it... And even if you do not see that the scene is 'different' it might still evoke a new feeling:) so it is fine not knowing in advance what's different... But if I see other videos about it, I'll share with you.
I guess it is not a spoiler to say that the ending of the two versions is different (meaning the scenes...)
I personally prefer the Original ending. And for me, it was never an open ending...So basically it is the same ending...
So I have to tell people who watch the Special Edition and end up loving it, that they should also watch the Original version and the Ending of the Original one.
I remember someone created a discussion asking what were our most favorite scenes of the Drama. I have so many, I could not count... But the first one that always comes to mind, is the very last scene of the Original ending. It is so Beautiful, that I wouldn't want to miss it for the World!
