I was really enjoying this but it starts as a solid 10 then gets around to episodes in the 20s and just falls…
This is from my perspective which may differ from yours and others. Humor was added to the middle parts to lighten up the mood from the earlier episodes. However, that doesn't make the relationship between Wei Shao and Manman any less hostile. Having watched the ending already, Manman has never had the power to do whatever she wants. Sure, she's smart but in her time, the Qiaos' survival will always depend on Wei Shao, so all her actions are full of caution. Thus, it's not that Manman enables his jealous tendencies, she can't anger him or directly clash with him. Later when she falls in love with him, she understands that he didn't have a childhood, has never been with a woman, so she allows him to be childish and naive in love. This was always a love story with a bit of politics just to introduce the enemy to lovers troupe, so I don't think anyone should take the politics seriously or expect it to be a huge part of the drama. Although Wei Shao is a warlord, he is very spoiled even his cousin has to always give in to him per their grandma, so his pettiness is understandable.

Is there any misunderstanding or breakup between the main leads in after eps 20 to the last eps?
Yes, Episode 29 but they reconcile at 31. It's a short but much needed break that ties everything up together beautifully.

The actress portraying lady yulou is the same as the actress acting as shen zaiye (ml)'s first wife in the princess…
No, they're different actresses. The one you're talking about is Liu Ling Zi. Xuan Lu, the actress, who plays Lady Yulou isn't part of The Princess Gambit.

It could be the editing too. I remember being so mesmerized by Zhou Ye when she was in her red outfit during her master's death scene outside. Her face and emotions were good. It was a longer take but the drama only had a small part of it which didn't capture what I saw.

Yes, I've complained about that in the LOTFG thread. Zhou Ye is soooo pretty but her acting needs work. However, she shined in other scenes, so that's why her popularity got another boost from the drama. She's gonna have a few new luxury brands soon.

Hmm Zhou Ye is actually a phenomenal actress though? Her crying scenes always managed to move me especially in…
I love Zhou Ye, but she's still a weak actress. She has improved a lot in LOTFG, though. ❤️

i was never a fan of song yi until now, she embodied li shuang so much that I can’t see anyone else taking the…
Nah, it has nothing to do with the airing date. The feedback from both sides, domestically and internationally, have been weak. This drama aired in summer, a season that should've helped with views. Not only that, TPOB clashed directly with Xiao Zhan's almost during its entire run. Then due to Song Zuer's incident, TPOB was airdropped that day, no promos, and was suppressed by platforms like Douyin. Again, just because I found Song Yi to be the weakest link like many on here and domestically, doesn't mean I dislike her. I've watched quite a few of her dramas before. And maybe because of that found her to be mediocre in here.

So much drama already. Chinese fandoms are so toxic. I'm not going to judge based on Zhou Ye or Wang Zi Qi's or even Wang Xing Yue's fans trying to kill each other online because celebrities may be innocent in all this. Even if they don't want their fans to engage in wars, some fans don't listen, or those fans are anti fans disguised as fans to create havoc for them. It's very gray. But the fact that the ML is a guest role is concerning. If he didn't want second bill, then act in something else. Allow someone else who could be second billing to take on the role.

Zhou Ye's fandom is relatively small. I've seen so MANY other bigger fandoms poop on her since the beginning. For those blaming Zhou Ye and her fans for everything, that's a bit too one sided. It's endless trying to find the source cuz no one is willing to admit that they're toxic. Haha.

Good luck to this drama. Zhou Ye has been so devoted to this drama, I hope her hard isn't in vain although there are LOTs of people waiting to see this drama fail SO they can say, see, she's not fit to be first billed or carry her own show.

I finally finished this drama. It wasn't as bad as the feedback but I expected a bit more from Deng Ke who did The Prisoner of Beauty. I think the biggest problem for me IS Song Yi. She is, unfortunately, the weakest link in here. Her acting remains the same as My Heroic Husband, Destined, and Follow Your Heart. Although Zhou Ye and Lin Yun aren't much better actresses, but they're more appealing, at least to me. I'm only bringing them up because of Cheng Lei. I'm not a fan nor an anti of Song Yi. I'm just sharing my opinion. But overall, an okay watch.

If Lady Su was from Wei clan, why was she married to Bianzhou clan? Didn’t they attack Wei clan? Or did I miss…
Not sure if you ever got the answer but Lady Su is from the Su clan in an entirely different kingdom. She was related to the Wei Clan; thus, why her family sent her to the Wei mansion during her childhood years. She ended up marrying Bianzhou because Wei Bao, Wei Shao's older brother died. If he hadn't died, he would've been the king. The Su clan is all about profits. They betrothed her to Wei Bao cuz the Weis were powerful. Once three generations lost their lives to Bianzhou, the Wei clan lost its stability too. It was only under Wei Shao that they prospered after.

I've admittedly always struggled to finish historical c-dramas, no matter how good they are, so I'm happy to reveal…
It's definitely the leads who displayed their real chemistry into reel. Their love scenes are sooooo pretty and profound. I wouldn't mind them doing a spicy short drama for us. 😂

Yeah, if only Wei Shao killed her earlier, it would've prevented the bloodbath later on.

Just one thing to say, don't listen to the hate comments :/ you could easily turn out to love this drama, it has…
I totally agree. I love Manman. She didn't fight with a sword but with words. Although Wei Shao was an enemy, she never once mistreated him. She gave him her best, caring for him even better than his own mother. She kept strategizing and protecting her people without hurting him. She was genuine. She not only cared for her people but him and his. Like Wei Shao said to her, no one could've done it better than Manman who was stuck in the middle between two kingdoms and families. She was always the first to risk her life for each side, get blamed, casted out, suffer, and get hurt when something happened. She was the beauty who used her heart to win him and his people over. She was sooooo well written. She is the true definition of girl power. ❤️🥳

It depends on censorship. This drama got 4 episodes cut out.
We will never know but knowing how well written this drama was all the way until the abrupt ending, with 4 episodes taken out, we can tell that all the scenes we probably wanted to see like when the leads unite after the final war was cut out as unimportant.
