I've watched all of the recent ancient dramas and unfortunately, none have filled the void this drama left in…
I finished it but it was only because of the crazy king's couple. It's preferences. I have nothing against the drama, but personally, I like TPOB more.
Omg, there are rumors that Qin Tian Yu, the actor who played the insane king in here is widely popular right now for this role that platforms are finally taking him more seriously. I hope that means, he gets some good leading roles in long dramas. 🥳 He's truly the hidden gem in here and I'm so happy, this role is like a break through for him. He's getting quite a lot of love. He's the only reason why I stayed.
Finally finished. Xia Jing Yan and Feng Xi Yang were the only reason why I continued this drama. Qin Tian Yu has always been a good actor, but he cranked it up a few notches in here as the insane yet genuinely in love king. Although he did the bullying and killing, his sincere love towards Feng Xi Yang, even agreeing to let her go if that makes her happy in the end, was more admirable than Xia Jing Shi who literally killed Fu Yi Xiao just because she got in the way of his plans. In the end, Xia Jing Shi loved nobody but himself. Xia Jing Yan at least loved someone else more than himself and protected her until the end unlike Xia Jing Shi.
I've been reading comments and reviews from the Chinese side, I'm so happy to see that the foolish king and naive princess couple is so loved. Like one of the viewers said, "A good actor makes you sympathize with a villain". Feng Xi Yang desired to change Xia Jing Shi but ended up changing Xia Jing Yan instead with love. What a bittersweet ending for them.
It was also very interesting to watch the Murongs transition from being righteous to evil. Their story was truly sad too, but that doesn't give them a right to take the throne through blood.
Thank goodness, Feng Cheng Yang remained good.
Sui Ge's blindness and amnesia to the storm alliance drama were redundant and unnecessary.
I'm not going to say too much on the negatives because that's not what fans want to read on here, which I understand. There was a LOT going on but somewhere, somehow, a lot of it fell flat. If I could be honest, it's not the writing but rather casting choices. Anyway, this was a decent watch.
Yah there isn’t a whole lot of shows that are on the same level as TPoB. I am watching Fated Hearts now and…
I feel the same way. I'm not motivated enough to lose sleep on LITC like I did with TPOB. TPOB hit me during finals and projects and let's just say, I got less than 3 hours of sleep every night for a month. Hahah. I was a happy zombie.

Yeah, don't pay too much attention to the heat index. I usually don't. I just watch whatever comes out new, skim, and decide to stick around or not because minus short dramas that are massed produced, there's not really that many long dramas released in a month, it's slow enough to follow up on all the new ones. But if I've skipped for months or years, I look at the heat index because I don't know which one is good or not and have no time to catch up. I hope Love In the Clouds reaches its heat index. I'm liking it so far but have paused on it until it ends because too busy at the moment. 😂
TPOB's ending was the weakest part of the drama. The unnecessary deaths and rushed ending wasn't satisfactory but like you said, the romance was so well written for 34 episodes, I just let it slide. Yeah, wished the drama had more fighting scenes too because Wei Shao was such a handsome fighter. Haha.
And that is exactly why I enjoyed WDBTD. The leads were always together and no unnecessary or prolonged misunderstandings. Okay, we had Feng Qi who had an annoying one sided love towards Tingyan but he was never that important enough to separate our leads. Anyway, this drama was a good watch, overall.

I don't think hitting the heat index is always an accurate indication that a drama is good but there has to be a mark or standard, so the heat index serves that purpose. The heat index shows that people, in general, not just the fans, are watching the drama. Fans could go around making posts, reviews, and comments all they want about how great a drama is but if it doesn't hit the heat index for whatever reason, there's probably a reason why. WDBTD didn't hit theirs nor will Fated Hearts and I understand. Both are decent but it takes a bit more. The heat index depends on a lot of factors, if one of the leads is a traffic star, it's already half the battle, as their fandom will buy massive clouds, then pair it up with a good script and cast, it'll easily hit the heat index like TPOB. But even then, a traffic star or popular leads may not always guarantee hitting the heat index like Cheng Yi's. And sometimes, the drama is so good that it hits the heat index without any popular stars like The Glory and Blossom. I watch a lot of dramas and my taste may differ at times, but I agree with the dramas that hit the heat index. They're actually better than the ones that don't, but that could be debatable too. Like Song Zuer's The Demon Hunter's Romance, I got bored half way. Sorry. Then ADWAD was quite a frustrating watch that I stuck around only for Liu Yuning. Both dramas didn't hit the heat index and I soooo understand why although people may claim this or that or whatnot. Anyways, I guess, we'll all just have to watch each drama and make our own judgment but do I still trust in the heat index? Yes.
I would've loved to see a longer ending for WDBTD in the modern world but that's Chinese dramas for ya. Their endings are always like that. 😂
I like Yi Xiao. Her fighting scenes are pretty good, but the fighting scenes in Legend of the Female General and My Journey to You are better coordinated and organic. Sorry, I'm a sucker for fighting scenes, so my mind just automatically compares. 🥲 I've been watching Fated Hearts on a daily basis but Li Qin still hasn't grown on me. There's nothing wrong with her because she's doing all the right things to make this character shine. It's just me, preferences. As for Chen Zheyuan, he looks a bit odd in here but his acting is good. BUT the male villains are very good looking. I'm actually more intrigued by the weirdo king and dumb sister. 😂

Oh yeah, we're going to have differing opinions. I've been reading a lot of reviews and comments on the Chinese side and agree with them that his acting was okay but not anything great. It was a fluffy xianxia to pass time. I've watched a few of his works before so maybe I was expecting more. However, he looks very handsome as Sima Jiao. This drama definitely invested in his overall aesthetics. The characters and storyline were pretty cute, had many fluffy moments, not too serious of a watch, which was good for me. This is his best character for me so far. However, like Legend of the Female General, the drama didn't need the last 5-6 episodes. It was basically a repeat of what happened before. It actually made the drama weaker.
The Chinese audience has been complaining that all October dramas have been lackluster, Fated Hearts, Yummy x 3, and Love In the Clouds, all of them are struggling to hit their heat indexes. The views and interactions have been very low too. This isn't from me, it's what I've been reading.

What I like about Fated Hearts is, the leads are always together. However, the amnesia is a bit eh. And the chemistry is okay. WDBTD, although Arthur is still pretty weak in acting, they have better chemistry.
