I'm happy this drama is doing great where it matters most.

If they were going to make Gong Jun such a kind and serious guy, they should've paired him up with a more charismatic actress who could do all the animation. The dynamics between Yumo and Lian Yue is soooo addictive because PXR knows how to play the cute vixen. Lian Yue is so serious and righteous yet falls for her charms willingly. It's a very cute tug of war that gets sort of sad later on. That tension is what attracts viewers. They have so little scenes yet are the best parts.

Heck, when Yumo is with Muyu, they're cute together too, so really, it's the actress that TRULY matters in here.

It was a solid drama with good rewatch value 9/10. I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers and bonus when the female…
I really like this writer. Manman was a smart and strong woman within her era.

Haha, one of the main complaints about this drama was "not having enough politics". The drama is broken…
I was coming from that person's possible perspective of what they may have referred to when they say, Manman carries the baggage.

Honestly, the relationship was well balanced. Manman has to give in to Wei Shao a lot more, not because she's a woman in ancient times, but because her family wronged his. She's there to redeem her family's past sins and protect them from future harm, all at the same time. But because so many bad dramas have been produced, especially female centric ones, for the FL to even tolerate such a ML somehow offends some. It's like Wei Shao can't be a simp BUT can't be cold either when he has every right to. There's no winning and pleasing everyone.

Haha, so when people complain and drop the drama because they can't stand how Manman "hard carried the marriage", well, yes, it's quite normal that she did because of the situation. But honestly though, it was well balanced. What I love about Manman is, she genuinely believes that her family wronged Wei Shao, so even though anti-fans call her scheming and cunning, disliking her persona in here, all her plans benefit both states but Wei in long term. Wei Shao's praise that no one could've done it better than Manman in Episode 31 was the best. That was literally her breaking point. She hurt Wei Shao with the secret passage and he semi rejected her before he left for war, then when she fled for help to her beloved cousin, Ah Fan rejected her too, and if Wei Shao didn't show up with her back to Kangjun, I'm sure the Uncle would've lowkey rejected her too. Episodes 29-31 were Manman's breaking point.

We have a lot of haters of this series because they bring in real life drama into it. But the story is fine from both sides. Some people can't forgive Manman for not telling him but could forgive Wei Shao for letting Lady Yulou escape? WHEN he knew she was behind so many issues? Make it make sense. Sorry but we have feminists who hate seeing Manman hard carry the marriage then we have die hard solo LYN fans who can't forgive Manman for hurting Wei Shao, as if it's LYN himself. Hahahah.😂 I can't.

The FL is Peng Xiao Ran
This drama has an odd arrangement. She's top billed for the actresses but in reality, the FL who ends up with the ML is the other actress, the miracle physician.

Haha, one of the main complaints about this drama was "not having enough politics". The drama is broken…
I think what the above person meant is, if it wasn't Manman who always tried to please Wei Shao, there would be no progression in the relationship. Manman took very good care of Wei Shao whether it be eating arrangements, room accommodations, management of people and relationships, and etc. She never failed her duty as Mrs. Wei. Although Manman was Mrs. Wei, except for a few occasions when Wei Shao needed to use her as an excuse, she had to survive on her own. Everyone hated her. He didn't back her either. Not only did she have to play it safe with him, she had to survive the thick politics in that manor. She had to stop Zheng Shu from being his concubine herself when he simply gave her the responsibility of arranging it. She had to prove that she didn't try to open the box. She offered to help Wei by importing seeds from Yanzhou but was slandered. She insisted on accompanying him on the trip to Rongjun. She helped him gain favor in Rongjun to plant the seeds. Even when they returned, when he rejected her after feeling guilty of falling for her, she still treated him well and never shied away. She literally was being tossed around by his moods and held it in. 😂 All of this wouldn't happen if Wei Shao was a simp. Even through all that, Wei Shao rejected Bizhi's participation in the deer hunt from a one sided story, never once checking with Manman, which changed Ah Fan forever and caused her to not help Manman later. Even until the end, if it wasn't Manman who chased after him into war, their marriage may have ended.

Anyway, that's why when a lot of people blamed Manman for not telling him the secret passageway, uhhh, no. Manman was always on eggshells. I don't blame her. He made a ton of mistakes too and I don't see her blaming him for it?!

But again, too many simp dramas out there so to see Manman chase after him for once was a breath of fresh air. I loved it! They didn't cheapen Manman. Manman was so classy and smart. She redeemed herself when she realized how much she hurt Wei Shao.

It seemed strong initially but after 6-7 episodes, it’s giving house politics and I don’t care for that one…
Haha, one of the main complaints about this drama was "not having enough politics". The drama is broken up into 3 phases: Episodes 1-14ish is plot or politics driven, then Episodes 15-22ish is character driven where the leads have more time to fall in love and get to know each other, the pace slows down here, then lastly, Episodes 24-36 is back to plot driven and ties up the stories. The FL does carry the relationship but that's the reality of that time. I think if you're still questioning on whether you should continue or not by the 6-7 episodes, then perhaps you should stop. The majority of people who complained the most loved it all the way until the second part of the drama when the it slowed down. You're not even there yet so....but unless those slow parts intrigue you, you may want to stay for a little bit longer and then decide.

I'm so happy to be watching Peng Xiao Ran again after Goodbye My Princess. All her characters and dramas after that was not my cup of tea. She's sooo gorgeous in here and finally, as Yumo, she doesn't remind if me Xiao Feng. Hahha, I'm soooo enjoying her story in here. I love the tease and pull with Lian Yue.

I love the bromance between Muyu and Chang He too.

As for BHH, the actress is a bit weak to be leading such a huge cast and production. Amongst all the female roles in here, she's the weakest link. She's okay so far, could be worse and more annoying, but hasn't been that impressive, so I'm not invested in the main love line yet. But she's new, so we'll see.

So far though, there are many characters being thrown around, but it's not as messy or cringey as Dashing Youth. Hahah. Perhaps there are better actors and more cohesive intros and relations in here, the drama is well weaved together so far. I'm not sure why anyone would be lost or confused. I haven't read the books or whatnot, watched Dashing Youth last year, so can't remember much, and could still follow along just fine.

I am only watching drama with romance, and how it is going? I am wonder if this one will be OK for me?
This is more of a wuxia, so the drama will focus less on romance. In wuxias, the characters are a lot more mature, so the "falling in love phases" of the characters won't be as innocent or childish as portrayed in idol romance dramas but so far, I think you'll be fine. It's not like there's none, there are a few couples with different flavors, so you should watch a few episodes and be your own judge.

Title The Prisoner of Beauty Spoiler
Update: My bad, this is going good so far, 4th episode was awesome.
I agree. When a man loves a woman, he'll naturally soften and do things he never thought he would for her. I wouldn't call that simp either but because we have SO many simp male leads, drama watchers are feeling the fatigue. Hahah.

Simp means, he'll do everything and anything for her, lose all his passions, dreams, and goals just to please her. I don't know about anyone because our definition of "simp" will be different but Wei Shao is no simp all the way til the end. He's innocent in love; that's the whole purpose of the title, The Marquis is Innocent. He's a God of War but innocent when it comes to love, so he's going to be immature and childish at times BUT even at the very end, he chose to save the people and canals and not protect Yujun where Manman, his newborn daughter, his grandma, mom, entire Wei family were at, outnumbered, attacked, and would've died if not for Wei Yan.

Wei Shao has always done everything for the people, focused on building canals to stop drought, hunger, and civil unrest in Wei and rebuilt relations with the Qiaos for peace along the way, but he's no simp. Wei Shao chooses Manman only sometimes, but not blindly. Manman is always having to prove herself to him. Although Wei Shao had already fallen deeply in love with Manman by Episode 29, when he learned about the hidden passageway, he didn't side with her automatically. He wasn't even sure which side or which city he should protect first until he consulted his grandma who reminded him to forgive and be kind. Wei Shao has a clear head even when he's in love. He didn't even follow Ah Ci to Kangjun UNTIL he learned that Manman came to save him with only a few hundred soldiers and would've died if not for her clever plan. In that Episode 31 convo with Manman, he admits that during the whole time, he hadn't let go of his revenge thus he never gave her his word or promise not to attack her family. So yeah, Wei Shao is no simp. Don't take his kindness and love as simp. He's a great ruler and leader who always puts the people first, knows what's right and wrong. Never allows love to muddle his head. That's why their happy ending was soooo well deserved for both.

Call me weird but finally found a drama interesting enough to bring me out of my TPOB craze. I've been forcing myself to watch the new dramas to move on but nothing has really worked until now. I only had time to watch two episodes but so far, it's good and quite entertaining. The visuals are soooo good. I'm surprised there were a lot of bad reviews on XHS. I actually like it a lot. 🥳 I like Gong Jun in here.
