I had to drop this drama after 24 episodes because it was too juvenile. That's a fact not a criticism because…
..I was only kidding you.. Not trying to embarrass you at all. =) ...but what you said I've thought the same even more so... China is a Communist country that utilizes capitalism in forms and fashion. It's not pure by even its own standards. You could possibly even argue that there is an even bigger "class" difference in China among people than other Asian countries, or capitalist countries in general.
As to your your point about pay, take the Esports game League of Legends. The American company was bought out by China's Tencent, then in the last two years, the big teams have paid millions of yuan to hire away South Korean pro-player talent to their region. The success of these transfers have actually been minimal. It has become a joke in South Korea that you go to China, not to win Worlds or be successful but to make "WADS OF YUAN" that you get at a 165X exchange rate. ;) So, it's not just the actors/actresses... It seems China wants to "buy" what they think is the best... but if they were true to their Communist roots they would put time, money, and effort to increase and expand the talent in their own country. That's the part I find sad.

"Yen" is Japanese money, so this being a Chinese production, it would have been a nice wad of "yuan" instead, and since the current exchange rate is 165.50 won to 1 yuan, it's 165x the wad as well. ;)
I've just started this and Zhen Hao and Yi An are by far the best of the couples to suit my taste. Grandma favoring them and pushing them to spend time. Zhen Wei and Yi Xin are kind of an awkward older bro, younger sis pairing. Not feeling this one at all. Lastly, Zhen Cai and You Zhen are the cliche tw-drama standard. So, I guess you get a "couple type" to pick from in this drama.
btw... if this is as bad as everyone is saying, I don't see this going all the way until Feb., 2017, although it's nice to know the leads started off signing on to this length of time being together "romantically".
What a serious dichotomy of synopsis versus comments. I haven't started watching this but it was billed by the writers and producers as being about "the positive side of marriage" and all the comments talk about how selfish and horrible everyone is and how the main couple breaks up and gets back together over and over again every episode. NEWS FLASH WRITERS: If what the commenters are saying is true, then you are WRONG to depict this series as being "positive" at all.
Interesting how Lee Ha Na was all set until she sat down for the table reading then said, "hell ya... Imma 'peace out' folks..." Everyone one speculated other reasons but based on the end result, it may, in fact, be that she was smart enough to see the writing was shit, you could say.
Episode 5 with English subs! :DD https://ufile.io/10411 & Kongpob's love song in English: http://deungdutjai.com/2016/09/19/konjaij/
Okay, OMG! I thought so, and, yes, it's a total love serenade from Kongpob to Arthit and you can see Arthit actually soften and get all weak in the face over it, LOL!:
I’m searching for the feelings you’re hiding inside
Every time you look at me, it indicates you have a secret in your heart
This time, I’ll try searching, no matter how difficult it seems
Please open the way for me and let me into your heart
I’ll take my heart to search yours to find the thing you’re hiding
If you have those words in your heart, why don’t you say them?
I know same as you that love takes time
I’m not worried how long it’ll be, I just ask for your heart that you’ve given me
I’ll take my heart to search yours to find the thing you’re hiding
If you have those words in your heart, why don’t you say them?
I know same as you that love takes time
I’ll stay to hear those words, that’s the prize that I desire
It’s worth the search of your heart
RAW of episode 5 with Kongpob & Arthit full on longing for each other and watching out for each other... and then the preview for episode 6.... OMG! I am dying... my patience is being tested so hard because these two are like absolute perfection.
Okay, I cannot even understand a thing because no subs [these are the times I wish I had a personal translator],…
INTERVIEW:
~ "Did you kiss for real?"
~ "Yes, it's a real kiss." x2 [Singto with a big smile, Krist with his head leaning towards Singto]
--Out comes the preview pic--
~ "Was it this scene?"
~ "Yes, it's that scene... But there's another scene that's hotter than this one..." [Krist]
....
~ "Can you show me a little?"
~ "It's not hard. P'Sing come here...." [Krist]
Okay, I cannot even understand a thing because no subs [these are the times I wish I had a personal translator], but **this** is too adorable anyway. I don't care that it's 3 weeks old. This right here will be the thing that holds me over until the actual "romance" in SOTUS begins:
My take away from ^^this^^ little piece of heaven: Singto/Krist couple are a Yaoi-girl's perfect fantasy; Krist is actually irl a year younger than Singto with a much *sweeter*, *shy*, *junior* personality that shows how good an actor he is in SOTUS; the kiss is to die for; Krist seems to rely on Singto and their aura of cute cub with protector bear is immeasurable; I cannot contain my emotions over the way Krist leans on Singto and the physical vibe between these young men; THE SINGTO/KRIST COUPLE HAS TOTES WAY TOO MUCH ADORABLENESS AND CHEMISTRY THAT I HOPE THEY DO MORE AFTER THIS ONE!!!
....**now goes to bed, pulls covers over head, and cries cuz of not understanding Thai**....
Watched the RAW version, and I'm starting to have a couple complaints. I hope the loveline doesn't dragout too…
I don't get it.... Is anyone watching the same show as me???
1. How does Em even have an attraction for May? It started in episode 1 when she grabbed him by the hand to help with getting Seniors autographs. She actually introduced herself directly to him and got his name. If anything, that was the opening to introduce May and start a regular romance between the two. They could have used this as a beginning to focus on them.
2. Kong didn't even know her and her name until a further episode and her getting in trouble because of him. They didn't need to make Kong her hero, they could have used it as a way to introduce her further to Em as one of his good friends and May's friends who know Kong as her friends. It would have still developed into the circle of boy/girl friends they have in ep. 4 but in a more straightforward way without any melodrama.
3. I think having Em/May be introduced to each other, having Em fall for her, then have May fall for Kong out of hero worship, that will ultimately end in her dissatified or hurt feelings, and Em's jealousy makes this "all over the place" and more complicated than it needed to be. ...and to be fair, ALL the relationships are PLATONIC at the moment. No one is dating anyone. ...BUT.... The ties of romance are being drawn in the script towards a certain OBVIOUS direction and there's a LOT of emphasis in episode 4 that there will be melodrama in the future.... and this was the vibe I was hoping to have this show avoid.
Watched the RAW version, and I'm starting to have a couple complaints. I hope the loveline doesn't dragout too…
Well, when you watch ep. 4 there is now developing a square love angle. With Em liking May, May liking Kong, Kong being nice to May making Em jealous, and Kong pining for Arthit's attention. I never suggested that there should be any "forced BL", how could there when, even with his "strong" attitude the "feminine" one is Arthit NOT Kong, if you pay attention closely. Kong is not the type of guy to force anyone to do anything. From the beginning he said he'd seduce him.... My issue is that, for me, they are unnecessarily setup drama between friends where jealous and cultural mores could create a lot of hurt for a lot of characters. I didn't want this to turn into a mess.
From ep. 4, the boy/girl jealousy lovelines were getting way more attention. Without knowing the dialogue, I was fine with the basketball "friendship/teamwork" but that got less attention, than the secondary lovelines. What I'm saying is that if the b/l loveline gets dragged out more than a few more episodes, the feelings of the others will get more solidified and, frankly,I LIKE the girls in SOTUS, they are sweet and nice and good characters to admire, and I DO NOT want to see any of them HURT over a b/l connection... which seems to be the direction it's going towards. Now, I hardly see Kong hooking up with a girl, BUT that doesn't mean May won't get hurt. ...that's where I'm coming from...
...I'm not sure where you got that I wanted this to be a "FORCED" b/l relationship from what I wrote, though.... *shrug*
Watched the RAW version, and I'm starting to have a couple complaints. I hope the loveline doesn't dragout too long and there is way too much boy/girl interaction for a b/l series. There's barely any b/l to be seen... although the push/pull from Kong/Arthit is still pretty cute, they don't get enough 1v1 scenes for my liking, right now. Hopefully that will pick up.
I haven't watched it yet, but based on what everyone says it sounds like it's the new replacement for Boss & Me,…
@Vivi Thanks for the info. I know ppl say that Boss & Me has a triangle but honestly, even when she kissed him, that triangle was always 100% pure one-sided. Something I loved realizing was, the 1x I watched I was really bothered by the triangle because I'm so used to K, TW, & C-dramas going all messy towards the end esp. when it's 20+ eps. I guess I was walling myself in from getting hurt... but when I watched it over again the 2nd & 3rd etc time, I realized Feng Teng's character had pure love and Shan Shan was just clueless to realize it. Loved the line, "Shan Shan, do you know how to reel in a Big Fish?" I loved it being the guy doing the heavy lifting for once. ;)
@kdramasinpajamas I watched My Amazing Boyfriend although I wasn't as infatuated with that one, it was still fairly cute.
@Rin I excited at the thought that I was able to catch on to the writing being similarly without knowing that upfront. Definitely gonna say, if this ends up being near to or, as you all are saying, better than Boss & Me then Gu Man's gonna be an A+ writer for me and one I'll watch for in the future...
