I am dying to see how this ends up... Does anyone have any clue when the movie will be released on DVD, so we can get an idea of how long to wait for an online subbed version?
this drama gives me different feeling in a way of watching it. Usually if i like a drama my goal is to finish…
I just finished it yesterday and I started watching it from the very beginning and even reviewed 6 of the episodes...I understand exactly how you feel... it was then that I just felt like slowing down. Funny, I didn't switch to watching other dramas either... I just felt like relaxing and taking it bit by bit... It was a fascinating transition for me. ;)
So, I watch a lot of pro gamers, especially playing League of Legends on Twitch, and I found it really funny that even some of the non-Korean gamers have DoTS OST music running while they are playing their games. The OST to this series is very, very popular right now. lol... and I remember how for the 1st two episodes we all, even those who ultimately enjoyed the drama, shit talked the choice of music being played during certain scenes. At one point, I think we all felt that the music was too lovey-dovey for a couple who just met and it gave a false impression that this couple fell in love completely at first sight because of the OST running in the background.... and now everyone just loves the music.
I'm just humored how things change, and viewpoints change so quickly. Don't take it all to seriously and enjoy what you enjoy and walk away from a drama that don't float your boat. Don't get offended by people who enjoyed it nor for those who say that it was terrible. There's room for every opinion under the sun... but one thing you cannot change is the overall rating of a drama. Whether you think it's too low or too high, we all have a right to our personal opinions, but the final review comes from the "majority". I may sometimes agree or disagree with the "majority" but in the end, the vast MDL members as a collective have the final say. While we may not accept another's view of what is good or not good, we must accept the final result of the tallies. That is life. ;)
tbh it wasn't as good as I was expecting. The story wasn't as developed as I'd have liked it to be. However, the scenery and filming were nicely done and it was still worth the watch. Just wasn't as impressed by it as I thought I would be.
So I was gonna marathon this series and after reading the article where the producers/directors had to apologize to the creator of the story for writing their own ending and NOT letting her know that they would do this, I was kind of appalled. 1. You should never have to apologize to fans. 2. It's hard work to write a proper story and screwing up someone's stuff, in my book is insulting. [ Could you imagine JK Rowling ever letting go of her Harry Potter series and allowing Warner Bros to change the endings? That's why she maintained "producership". These asshats think they can do a better job, and usually it's worse. If they think they can do a better job, they should just write the stuff on their own from the beginning.] 3. An actor should never be heard in an interview saying, "I signed up for this drama but halfway through filming I don't even know what show I'm in. This wasn't what I agreed to do. I have no idea what's going on." 4. An actor should never have his part cut down to size because of "PERSONAL" disagreements. It's completely unprofessional. The actor was dismayed and expressing the same sentiments that fans of the writer's story were expressing. There was a reason you had to "APOLOGIZE". You took her stuff WITHOUT telling her and, as she said, ripped it to shreds and didn't even give the same ending to HER MAIN characters. The actor was expressing the same sentiments as everyone else.
^^^When I read about all this stuff, not the comments below [they're subjective opinions], I decided I'm not going to give the show my time. I made the decision on behalf of the original writer. That's some messed up crap. It's bad enough they have "in-house" writers who start off good then crap up the endings on a regular basis, then to have them take another person's story and halfway through crap up THEIR ending with a RE-written crappy ending that they never even wrote in the first place. Again, I say, if you wanted to WRITE your own shit, then just stick to doing the WHOLE thing from the beginning. Everyone else has HIGHER expectations.
^^^^BTW: The crapped up ending saga for Kdramas & TWdramas is the MAIN reason I joined a site like MDL. I hardly ever watch a drama while it's airing for THIS very reason. I wait so I don't get my heart ripped out and stomped on. I've learned from my mistakes. MARATHONING is almost always the better way to go. Less time invested in crap that doesn't make my heart feel good. These guys have a real malady with wanting to destroy endings. I often am dismayed by it tbh.
On another note: You ALL should be savoring this moment of Yoo Ah In's acting and appreciate it, because he is…
yeah but he'll be 32 so he will be in a new element of dramas he can play. I heard that the industry is pushing as much stuff his way because there are only a handful of guys at his age range that can act as well as him and then they'll be with an empty pool for 2 years. That's why he's been so busy lately. I do wonder if he'll complete 1 more movie before going into service. I heard Seung Gi is doing another movie and will enter by September of this year. These 2 are at the same age. Ah In ssi really cannot put it off much longer. =*(
This certainly isn't a problem just associated with DOTS (but rather most kdramas), and to be honest, it's not…
ABSOLUTELY! ^^^ this!!! I have reviewed every episode of DotS up to ep. 6 and if you go and read them this is the very critique I have about this drama that I dislike. Even more so than the English accents is the poor acting from the foreign actors. It is very, very difficult, especially if English is not a language you are comfortable speaking, to act in English against poor actors with horrible English themselves. It is honestly the weakest part of this drama. ...but since this is staple in South Korea for foreign actors to speak and act this way, to citizens this means very little and won't affect their ability to watch the drama nor have any affect on the ratings. So, I don't see much changing on this area.
...but I must say, for me, it does hinder my ability to really get into and enjoy a drama fully when some stereotypes and poor English are just to blatant and uncomfortable, especially when I know the stereotype isn't even truly accurate. But yeah, I wish I could pull together an agency that would give them good foreign actors with great English cheap, even just to make the dramas I watch with them much more bearable.
I know that the international fans are crying "overrated".... but, the thing is, this drama is getting…
Wow. Seriously. Calm down. I was being facetious. Do you understand the term? Anyone can have an opinion about it good or bad, I honestly don't care either way because that's "personal preference" and that is wholly "subjective". The only SERIOUS comment I've ever made about it is review honestly and accurately, and be descriptive. Comments like: "it sucked", "i hated it", "I loved it", "ohhh, Song Joong Ki" are of no value to me because they give me nothing to base the value of the show on. As I've said before, give a reason to like or not like, it may very well be the reason you give liking something might be the very reason I DON'T like something... I'm not upset you liked it, I'm just glad I understand why I shouldn't waste my time watching it. So, YES, contrary viewpoints to me are valuable, as long as they come with a valid description. It's why I joined a site like this.
My POINT was that as far as where this show ends up in South Korean AWARDS ceremonies, and the ranking it gets within that country, and whether more shows with these actors and writers and producers get done won't have 1 iota to do with what the international community thinks about it because the show is Korean. Just like a show in the USA doesn't get taken off the air because someone in France thinks it's crap. It only matters what the USA viewers think as far as the AIRING of the show.... and I was just pointing out that the viewership in South Korea is off-the-charts.... The show is breaking records and that's just a fact.... ..I'm not saying that the ratings on MDL don't mean crap, even if it only means something to us using the site to determine if we'll watch a show or not. As far as the ratings that get "CREDITED" to the show, those are the ones done in South Korea from South Korean citizens watching the show....
I know that the international fans are crying "overrated".... but, the thing is, this drama is getting worldwide attention whether you believe it or not... and as for the ratings being high and you thinking it doesn't match the quality of the show: The only thing that really matters as far as ratings is what the S. Korean public think about it and as of today, Descendants of the Sun has surpassed the ratings records set by "You From Another Star".... that's a pretty big deal, whether you are liking this drama or not... I guess we can see whether or not it still continues to get high ratings or the ratings wane or fall....
Everyone is having Song Joong Ki syndrome. *smirk* http://www.allkpop.com/article/2016/03/china-tells-public-to-beware-of-song-joong-ki
People may assume this is just an exaggeration since ^^^ this article is from allkpop.... but actually a few hours ago CNBC wrote a post about this very thing.
It seems everyone is the world is in love with Song Joong Ki... but can you blame them??? lol...
On another note: You ALL should be savoring this moment of Yoo Ah In's acting and appreciate it, because he is 30 and hasn't done his military service. It is near likely that he'll start serviing after this is completed. I suspect he may enter anywhere between April - September of this year and that will mean no more Yoo Ah In dramas for 2 years....
I haven't started watching this one yet because, especially in very, very long dramas, I like to have the episodes completed and subbed. I'm sure SFD will be completely subbed but I've been stung by a drifting fanbase of subbers who get bored part way through a project. I'm not hating on them, I just don't want to be left hanging because of them. There are very few shows I'll watch while it's still airing. I've only done it a handful of times. A 16 episoder would have me doing it more likely than any 30+... bottom line: I am very impatient and cannot stand waiting around for the next episode while thinking about what's already happened.
With ^^^ that said, I am still in awe with the poor rating of SFD here on MDL. It's actually quite disappointing to think about. I've heard so many good things about this drama all over the internet from netizens in South Korea. I knew before this was even airing it was gonna be good. WHY!? Have you seen the cast list???? That in and of itself is worthy of at least a 9 out of 10. I could see with the writer, director, and actors that there was no way this was gonna be a crap series. People, please, please, please, do me a favor and don't do full REVIEWS before you've even finished the WHOLE dang series!!!!! How can you review it completely, UNLESS you've dropped it? Then explain THAT.
My Suggestion: Have you ever looked at the EPISODE REVIEW? It's there for a reason. If you feel the need to review a drama before it's complete, GO THERE, review the episodes you've watched then wait until it's over....
Frankly, Yoo Ah In deserves far better consideration for his quality acting from reviewers on this site. Thank you, in advance, for all your consideration.
I think I am getting a little annoyed with the downer comments about how this show isn't on par because the OTP…
LOL. I'm not trying to convince you about the story. I understand you had your view of the way you watched it. But I still cannot laugh at how differently we saw the same show and interpreted it.
He came to the hospital because he had stitches he wanted caring after and had a 2pm appt with her that she willingly made. He was stood up by her because she had an emergency operation and then she got his phone number, without his authorization I might add, to call him up and see how he was doing. There was mutual give and take on both sides. It was after she called him back that he realized she was mutually interested in him that he asked to meet with her right then and there. But after that he was the one who ended up standing her up twice.
Honestly, she dumped him because of his job, it's not one she really approved of but more than that, as you can see, she didn't like waiting around for his phone call, not knowing where he was and if he was alive or dead, as well as the fact that he just drops her at any given moment. It was understandable. He understood her perspective as well. That's why he let her go with saying "thank you for letting me get to know you". There was no drama, no anger, no tears. It was quite mature and with very, very little stalker behavior at all. Stalkers don't let go no matter what. She said good bye, he said good bye, and 8 months later neither have contacted each other until the coincidentally end up in Urk.
.... That's why I'm so amused by it... cause I don't see him being perverted at all. All I saw was them being forthright with each other. It's refreshing to see honesty like this without all the games and worries and push/pull. They tried to date. It didn't work. No harm. No foul. They ended it. Seems pretty cut and dry to me.
....and it's these differences of opinion I like to see on this site. So, MDL readers can read your opinion that opposes mine and **all** the reasons we have those opinions, and then decide for themselves if the show is worth watching.
I think I am getting a little annoyed with the downer comments about how this show isn't on par because the OTP…
Sorry, there were multiple people making the comments I was referring to so I wasn't calling any one person out particularly, I was making a **general** statement.
When I was 25 years old I had a very close male friend talk about a male friend of his whom he said was the "male version" of me but I had never met him before and had no clue about his appearance. One night I went to a retreat with my guy friend and sitting with him in a group chatting. All of a sudden the guy next to me, wearing a baseball cap said "that's [insert pro football players name]" I just blinked, trying to figure out what this stranger was trying to say, and looked away. After about 2 minutes I realized he was actually referring to some spiritual writer and misspoke his name, but I got what he meant, so I turned to him and said, "You mean [insert author's name]." His face turned beet red and he giggled, "oh yeah. haha. You are right." It was the most adorable thing I'd ever experienced. Moments later my male friend informed me that this was the guy he was referring to being the "male version" of me. I ended up marrying this guy and having two sons with him. That's real life.
I've been around for 47 years and witnessed many friends, acquaintances, co-workers, and family members meet their loved ones, and very, very few were friends with no hint of liking each other and just had "certain events" happen that made them turn romantic. That's why many guys hate being "friend-zoned". Once you're in that zone, it's hard to get out. Most human beings right from the start understand and know when they are attracted to someone of the opposite sex. It takes a really anal retentive, repressed person to not know and understand their own feelings and emotions.
In real life, people often initially meet someone, find them attractive, then ask for their personal information, like a phone number, and hook up to date. Being attracted first isn't shallow, it's being honest. Most often, you know little to **nothing** about them when you first meet. What you do know is that you are attracted to them enough to date. Where do you usually meet the person you start dating?? Majority aren't dating their high school/college chums. They meet at dance clubs, bars, grocery stores, parks [both amusement and grass], or special events or celebrations, or set up on 'blind dates' by friends/family. Heck, nowadays people are so busy to meet people the "old fashioned" way that they apply to online dating services and spend their time looking at boat loads of pictures and resumes or watching videos and picking the person they find most "attractive" to them. Again, it's not shallow. You need to "like" the person to want to date them, and you "date" them to get to know them to understand whether or not you want to spend a lifetime with them. This is the process of getting a mate. It's always been that way, it's nothing new and, YES, it is 100% absolutely REALISTIC. It's how dating works.
ratings hit 23.4%. This drama is about to reach a whole new level of epic proportions.
I had a feeling this was gonna go this way. For me, each episode just gets better and better. I am sitting here anticipating tomorrow. We're gonna already be 1/4 of the way through this and yet I'm still so impatient. I want it to come fast but I also want to savor every moment. They really, ALL are doing a good job. Even the 2nd leads romance is sparking interest.
For added pleasure go read the recap on DramaBeans site. I don't think, other than the hospital CEO, there is a character in this drama that's not just 100% likable. I'm seriously enjoying this to the fullest!
ep 3 subbed here o/ http://myasianfever.tv/serie/descendants-of-the-sun/season-1/descendants-of-the-sun-episode-3-with-english-subtitles/
This site is SO fast. I <3 them. People should consider donating to them if they have a bit of extra cash lying around. Heck $2 here and there from 25K ppl visting the site adds... and for getting subs this fast, it might be worth it to support them. Heck it'd be cheaper than Viki Pass and DramaFever Premium. Save yourselves some money folks and support the quality.
