100%, Grey Days. To me it's obvious and crystal clear that they will end up together, too many clues are given about it: as u said, all the artworks in the cafè, the talk between SY and Mrs. Seo, her reaction, almost bursted in tears, when she sees him again after 4 years, her changed behavior showing her longing for not being soon parted at every new encounter now and last, but not least, her admitting she lied all the times in the past, during the "what if". Plus, he saying "Nothing, absolutely nothing" has been forgetten, which to me sounds like a "nothing has changed about my feelings".
I read her explanation "Because there was no more to give and no more to received" as a way to say "I was broken, I was in no place to be able to give something sanely, with faith and confidence and bright hope in my heart, while, instead, i couldn't let you give me more than what you had already given to me". That is basically the knowledge that a healthy relationship must start with equal and fair basics from both lovers; it is her saying "Although I was in love with you, I wasn't ready", too scared of everything, still tied up to that breaking-the castle-down vision. Cos her personality reflected how, once, she preferred to be bound to people who cannot actually hurt her instead of risking to suffer by the one she truly loved, cos she knew that would required to put herself out there and get involved completely. I never thought she didn't love SS, I thought she wasn't strong enough to fight back her fears and her obsessions about " every love dies badly, sooner or later". Cos when you are in pain, down, disappointed by yourself, when u cannot love yourself, u cannot love others peacefully.
So, what's happened during those 4 following years? That she realized, healing by healing, building by building, painting by painting, the truth of her feelings toward SS, how deep they actually were. Now did we finally get a proper, heartbreaking, moving confession by her to SS? ( damn you , SY, though!! What the F!) Of course not, she is not that type of person, she is the kind who will take 2 more years of dating before she could tell an "I love u!" LOL Despite i would hate that type of subtle-introverted-shut-in person, evidently, SS likes it nevertheless! LOL I gotta admit I really missed a true showed powerfull "conversion" in SY, but this ending is defo more realistic to the character.
Now, things i didn't get or like: - Where the hell the passionate night of the Leads at the hotel end up in the history?! I can't figure that out. Was that just an imaginary scene, a dream, a wtf I know?? Please someone helps! - How is it that the truth about the fake cheating with So K. Pil has never reached the surface?! I didn't like this, It doesn't give a fair narrative clousure IMO.
