That's not how feelings work you can't just rationalize someone's death more so when that person is someone you once loved and still care about.
Ki Chul was a criminal but he was still human and there was good in him, he truly cared about Joon Mo and Euijung.
And being a cop doesn't ultimately mean you become mature and rational, neither does it make you the right one. "Mingyu" was a cop as well. Everyone has an evil side.
You keep emphasizing they are cops they should act rational, they literally toyed with someone's feelings isolated him from his friends and then betrayed his trust just to achieve their goals... "Cops" doesn't ultimately translate to "Rational" or morally correct
Let's say you are 'Euijung' and you just saw your partner shoot and kill your ex whom you used for your own benefit. Would you be okay living with the person who just shot the person you were guilty towards?
The last thing Ki Chul said was something like "you'll will never be happy" and then proceeded to shoot himself. Joon Mo killed him to free Euijung from the guilt of being responsible for his death. There was no going back from that, it's not about maturity, their previous bond was not something they could get back no matter the time.
Did you notice Joon Mo constantly looking at the necklace first the cross and then the one gifted by Ki Chul And Euijung crying her eyes out at Ki Chul's death sealed the deal. Getting separated after all that is more believable than them staying together. The makers wanted to show us that everything comes at a cost, everyone in the series lost something, so did they.
Tbh Jun moo killing Ki Chul was the right thing because he was a criminal. As a cop Jun moo full filled his responsibility…
That isn't the reason he killed him. Ki Chul was going to shoot himself and that would have left Euijung with the guilt of being responsible for his death so Joon Mo killed him to free her from that guilt.
That's not something outsiders like us can decide, they are the ones who lived through all that.
Would you be willing to live with someone who you thought you knew about completely but suddenly you see a new side to them which is the polar opposite of the person whom you have known all these years? Would you be able to live with someone who shot your first love right infront of your eyes even if they are your current partner?
Going back to what their life used to be before all this and living as if nothing had happened at the cost of other people's lives. Is that something w decent person would be able to do.
They both made their choices and will have to live with the reproductions.
Would you be ok getting back with a partner with you constantly thinking " to what lengths did she go for the investigation" "Did they sleep together?" "Why is she still wearing the necklace" "Does she still have feelings for her past love" "What has become of my loving husband" " Where is the person I knew"
Joon Mo literally killed Ki Chul so that Euijung won't have to feel any more guilt about him shooting himself over her betrayal. They couldn't stay together as everytime Euijung sees Joon Mo she will remember the moment he shot Ki Chul.
They changed too much during the whole investigation process to be together

Maybe you're still in school.
This is not an opinion it's a suggestion
"Not every drama"
