Came here mostly for Sam. I just wanted to praise him for today's episode cz he was definitely the MVP of the…
If Sam was fully drunk he wouldn't have been able to nail all the emotions with nuance and skill, all the facial expression, changes in the voice, etc. He knew what he was doing and he delivered it. Him having drunk a few shots doesn't invalidate his talent at all to me and his accomplishment in this scene. They were both amazing.
I thought the sofa scene was going to be worse, as in more violent and forceful and I was scared. But it ended up not being so much as I thought it would be. I'm not excusing the way Shi De behaved jumping on top of Shu Yi like that, but as you say, seeing from the characters perspective, I can see both sides. I loved the sofa scene and all the emotions displayed from both characters and their inner struggle, but I can understand if some people didn't like or felt uncomfortable.
How was his directing job bad? (I'm genuinely asking, I'm curious to read other opinions)
You're right that it didn't seem as planned or aesthetic as other scenes, even emotional ones like the confession on the bridge on s2 and others. I don't know if it was intentional or not to make it look more raw or not, but I'd have liked some other angles and aesthetics. Also when Shi De grabs Shu Yi's hair, I'd have liked to have seen their faces and not the camera only filming part of it. Maybe they only filmed once and one shot? Hard to say. Luckily the acting and chemistry was excellent and could compensate the lack on the filming department for that scene.
Acting and directing wise there's nothing to be worried about. They delivered and delivered even more than we…
Sam drank on set because he thought it'd help the scene and Yu had a glass too. They did it on set with the approval of the director who tried to push them to their limits. Sam is everything but unprofessional. He gave his all for this role. I don't understand the correlation of loving the acting and directing in a show with Kpop Armies.
If the script writers follow this then the series will be amazing. How did you hear they were going to re-solve…
I hope it goes like too. However, I think that whatever explanation they come up with, Shi De made a mistake and I think the show wants us to also feel like Shi De did a mistake. There is absolutely no good reason for not having involved Shu Yi in all that was happening, though I know that Shi De didn't hide what was going on coming from a bad place, he might even had thought it was for the best for Shu Yi, not to burden him. Also I think Shi De was very insecure and afraid to lose Shu Yi if he opened up to him (their relationship was just a couple months when he left and it was probably hard for him believe that Shu Yi loved him just as much. But with doing this he ended up losing Shu Yi anyway, hurting Shu Yi and all of that. No, Shi De isn't a bad person (on the contrary), but he made the mistake of holding everything inside and not communicating with Shu Yi and keep him up to date with his problems and challenges. He wasn't good at holding the long distance relationship (that needs more effort than a normal relationship). And maybe I'm expecting too much or imaging too much, but I feel like the show wants the lesson to be "communicate" and wants the characters to learn that through their mistakes and pain. Regardless of the explanation, all I want is to Shi De to be redeemed, that he learns his lesson so that they can both move on forward together.
If they both learn to communicate, they are a match made in heaven yes. Not only the physical chemistry but also because they complement each other. Shi De is more introverted and Shu Yi is more explosive with his emotions. Shi De needs to learn to be more like Shu Yi sometimes, but at the same time Shi De also calms and grounds Shu Yi (when they're properly together). Shi De expresses his love through his actions and taking care of the one he loves. Shu Yi loves being taken cared off. Shu Yi is more vocal when it comes to express his feelings, which is something that Shi De needs, as he needs reassurance. They express their love through different ways which complement each other and are what the other needs.

We see Shu Yi talking about Shi De wanting to resolve everything alone, also Shu Yi just got to know Shi De and his dad know each other. There are other scenes in the trailer that also match it. I think the relationship itself will only be fully happy on episode 5, but I think the misunderstanding will be solved before that. It makes sense that even with the misunderstanding solved, that Shu Yi takes time to trust Shi De again despite loving him and wanting to get back together. And the cast recognizes that the issue this season is communication. So even if they get back together Shu Yi will have to be convinced that this time around Shu Yi will be included if there are problems and Shi De will communicate.
I loved the scene too. But, I still can't get past that it used the same old drunk sex rape trope and tried to…
Yes, the scene was so layered and displayed so many complex emotions from both characters and yes we could feel their connection, love, longing and chemistry again in full force, that this wasn't about tops or bottoms or old drunk forcing troupes. I'll rewatch the scene several times not just because of the kissing and touching but to catch all the details and nuance in both Sam and Yu's acting.

I also felt that it was more about Shu Yi fighting his feelings and trying to resist his heart and physical impulses than fighting against Shi De's advances. There's also a very subtle part where Shu Yi moves his hand to clean Shi De's tears and caress him, but Shi De moves his head. Also Shu Yi cried a bit and was willing to hear the explanation (that wasn't given unfortunately). He still loves Shi De deeply and cares for him and he didn't enjoy seeing him in that state despite of his pride and wanting to "win". I don't like the "drunk sex rape trope" at all, but I didn't feel like it was what happened here, as you say it was much less problematic than I thought too. Actually this whole scene from Shi De at Shu Yi's door to the end in the sofa was genius. They gave it their all and I can understand how this scene drained Sam emotionally.
This was really good from the beginning to the end. I liked the very first scene where ShuYi cried and looked…
Look, their acting is so perfect and their chemistry is so fire that at this point the explanation could have been alien intervention, evil twin switching places with Shi De or whatever, that I'd eat it all up lol
I don't buy the father explanation, plus it doesn't explain why he stayed a year, almost ignored Shu Yi, then the girl misunderstanding and medical papers. However, I really don't care anymore because the acting was SUPERB! THE ACTING, THE CHEMISTRY, GIVE SAM AN OSCAR!!! And we can blame Shi De all we want (yes he was wrong in not having communicated with Shu Yi and is wrong now in not communicating with him regardless of whatever BS promise he made to the dad), but the acting made me feel all his pain and frustration. I feel so bad for him! I'm a Shi De and Shu Yi apologist, I don't care. Now let me go cry some more.
What i don't understand is why Shu Yi would think that was Shi De's baby it isn't even possible to be his baby.…
I agree. He might not think it is their baby, but he thought it was his girlfriend due to the way the girl was acting (it was a bit inappropriate), the timing of Shi De barely communicating with him and everything going on. When Shi De moved to America Shu Yi and Shi De had been dating for a couple of months maximum, so their relationship was still fresh and they didn't know each other that well as boyfriends yet. So I can understand Shu Yi thinking the worst when he saw them and thinking that she was the reason he stayed in America 1 year instead of the couple of months he had promised before moving. And then his message afterwards (special episode) saying he had something to tell him made it worse.
And I also agree that those jabs he made at Shi De about girlfriends being better and pretending he got a girlfriend was also a jab at Shi De having gotten a girlfriend (that's what Shu Yi thinks happened). I also think at some point he was expecting Shi De to explain, when he asked Shi De what he was sorry for and all those jabs about girls. I'm so frustrated none of them has talked about what happened or mentioned the girl yet. We need some clarity!
I also can't wait for the explanation of what's going on.
Okay why are people putting spoilers warnings cause i know non vip users don't have access to the episode but…
Some people come here to read if the show is good or not and general opinions or ask something about the show. But as common courtesy I always put spoilers whatever episode I'm referring to if the series isn't finished yet and sometimes even if it's already finished.
What i don't understand is why Shu Yi would think that was Shi De's baby it isn't even possible to be his baby.…
Maybe he didn't think it was Shi De's baby but that it was Shi De's girlfriend or that Shi De was hiding something from him? We also don't know in what timeframe did Shu Yi saw what he saw. Certainly before a year of Shi De being in America though.
I'm confused about something. If Shu Yi really believed Shi De had a child with a woman (or so it seemed like he thought so), then why did he think that saying that women are "better" in that scene would hurt Shi De/be a good "counter attack"??
