I think this is the first time I’ve came across a character which truly represents modern feminism, Gu Jia….…
Truly think she was about to forgive him, or at least hold off the divorce until he is released from prison…. But he gave her a divorce for the sake of her….. a truly unselfish act…. I cried in that scene… crying while watching dramas is rare nowadays. 🤣 I actually found their whole marriage plot thing quite typical but also realistic…. Lol, playing PSP in the car, the whole socks thing, eating thing….. I’ve heard of all these things from married colleagues, friends etc before. 🤣🤣🤣 my own cousin became an Uber driver after work to avoid going home… the ML’s affair was quite…. Realistic though slightly cliche.
I think this is the first time I’ve came across a character which truly represents modern feminism, Gu Jia…. I like how she really can let go and holds no grudges…. Not about getting even nor trying to be stronger or as strong as men…. Also loved it whereby she doesn’t use her kid to leverage in a divorce. Was great that she isn’t a pure career/corporate “super woman”…. She’s ambitious, a go getter but she self-reflects (this is super important).
But she is also flawed in a sense whereby I think a lot of modern, educated young women can relate to…. Constantly trying to be perfect… which I think fortunately for her…. She kinda almost is… well at least she is an all-rounder. So it kinda makes her character more realistic yet the ‘ideal female’ standards for a lot of people (so that bit is a kinda dreamy)… I think her friend made a really good point. At the end of the day the husband she chose couldn’t keep up with her, which she failed to realise and was kinda living in her own dream world… but I don’t think she chose wrongly…. Neither did he…. In the last episode I was happy for her that the man she chose was a good man… who made a mistake….
Please someone tell me Liu Tao's character ends up with JinDong's character???!!!
So many people are hoping for this…. Sighs… I think the author might have avoided it because it’s kinda half cliched/trope-ey… but Lao Tan confessed that he fancies her though, and 10 yrs to protect and stay with someone is already considered love….
Wow, well it has some tropes but this is so realistic in terms of the whole working background/setup… I want to be Andy at 31 yrs old too! 🤣🤣🤣 Lol, I loved the whole 2nd generation ‘chaebol’ thing threw in the mix, she is SUPER funny, eccentric and ‘evil’. The author/screenwriter was very smart to write in a high EQ +IQ HR person. The actor who plays Wei Wei was the perfect cast (creepy but at the same time you get glimpses of eccentric brilliance)… his character was rather unique.
It’s kinda dated esp with the exponential progress in Mainland dramas (and also as a country) in the past 5 yrs so some depictions are quite dated which irks me a bit like wardrobe, set, dubbing, like 2nd generation family conglomerates are slightly more developed and matured now given the support/guidance of asset managers/private bankers etc… I love the age gaps between all the girls too, that’s pretty real-life.
I just started and am super curious to watch on just to see wot happens… defo caught me by surprise… because I thought it would be superb cliché like Tiny Times….
Edit: Dropped. Couldn’t tell if it was coz of the colour grading or the plot progression… maybe both… but the colour grading was really distracting…
I did not expect to like this as much as I did...but I'm so happy I came across it. I loved it! One of the main…
Well said! Esp the last paragraph…
Wot surprised me with Tang Jing was she is confident, ascertain, firm and tenacious in general… in her social life, at work, and with friends… but when it comes to romance she has this deep-rooted insecurity, doubt and mistrust…. I don’t know if it’s only with this specific dude or like just whoever she really loves…. To begin with the Vivian girl shouldn’t have came between them at all… wot is the point of the 10 yr relationship if it’s so fragile…. The ending would be the same regardless… Aside from this, I think she is an amazing character. Loved her.
The view from Tang Jing’s apartment is super nice and calming… 😍
I wish I had a mentor like He Han…. His step-by-step guidance is really…. Pretty amazing…. Not only that, his life views and advice is super accurate and implores a lot of wisdom… I still remember one about the anxiety from divorced parents fighting for a child….. this is so so true…the child literally can feel it and will constantly feel stretched like a rubberband…
One thing I liked was how they portrayed her husband’s married life with Ling Ling… although not all re-marriages end up the same way, but they made a very good point to highlight the difference when it’s an affair/relationship vs marriage….
The last 10 episodes were very painful and sad to watch…. That is really the epitome of modern realistic melodrama…. 😢
Finished watching this yesterday. When I started it I wasn't expecting much of it but I enjoyed it so much. I…
Haha, I felt exactly the same. BUT the moment I played the first episode and saw Luo Bin’s office + the legal firm’s set… I knew it was going to be some form of Suits adaptation. I didn’t expect to like it coz I was disappointed with the Korean one.. this was so much better. It was a solid watch. Totally want a S2 esp with the surprisingly good ending albeit rushed.
Even his office is almost an exact replica of Harvey Spectre’s, actually the entire law firm is almost exactly…
It was a solid 8.5 for me, could have been higher but I didn’t like the development of Dai Xi’s character… like she was stilllll cryinggg in the penultimate episode….. wth man…. I totally agree with wot Luo Bin said to her, I would have said the exact same thing actually….. as much as I understand her point of view, but after working for so long how can you expect the entire world to revolve around you….😒 and they only gave her redemption in the last episode…. So unfair… her character growth came so late, and it was so abrupt…. Why…… Epic fail. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
She totally could have used her brains and realised when an agreement is signed with a corporation it isn’t tied to an individual… nor a specific position/person…. Definitely not one whereby it’s just a paid-employee position.. she should have came clean with her mentor the moment she recognised the dude and they could have approached the CEO/BoD behind closed doors, collect evidence and secure the agreement. Luo Bin is a star negotiator… he could have made any table turn… and they could have gotten the dude fired or even put him in jail. For her to not be able to do this and not recognise nor leverage things/people/situations is just so disappointing…. Like why is it that young girls have to be dumb… that’s so unfair… young girls can also be very smart, maybe not a genius like Mike but they did also retain the bit whereby she has a photographic memory. They literally portrayed her character like a teenager….😒
I’m 2 yrs late… but in the original American version of Suits…. Luo Bin and Li Na equivalent ended up getting married…. Harvey Spectre and Donna basically…
I loved Zhu Zhu as Li Na… I thought she emulated the character perfectly…
Even his office is almost an exact replica of Harvey Spectre’s, actually the entire law firm is almost exactly a copy of the Suits set….. lol…. Zhu Zhu did a perfect rendition of Donna, loved her… and “Wang Qi Nian” as Louis Litt is superrrr funny, he’s a natural, flawless… 🤣 Louis Litt is such a difficult character to pull off..
I’m only so-so with Mike’s equivalent… I find Dai Xi slightly annoying, and I didn’t like how they dumbed down the character versus Mike…. Like why did they make her so childish, clueless and brash…..? Mike was sucha cool character albeit also impulsive at times but defo not immature and ignorant…. And one thing I really didn’t like is why on Earth would they make her cry at work……? Crying at work in front of your manager, your peers, your colleagues……… 😒 Even interns nowadays wouldn’t do it…. So they switched the genders for ML’s mentor and mentee…. The entire drama is almost exactly like the original Suits except for the subject of the cases and some tweaks…
The producers changed the genders of a few characters, and also changed the backstory of Mike’s character because it wouldn’t have passed censorship, wot he did was illegal…. That’s where it loses out because all the tweaks caused the show to be less impactful and dramatic… think this was intentional to cater to the Asian culture… they definitely smoothed out all the eccentricities and extreme bits.. I.e Jessica Pearson was such a striking and powerful character but they changed the character to a male figure because a relationship where the gender is reversed is viewed as unconventional and unseemly in Asia. How unfortunate… but I’m glad they maintained how Li Na had to fight for wot she deserved at work and was unashamed in doing so, because that was also wot happened to Donna and actually that is one of the most realistic things that women have to face in corporate…. It was painstakingly realistic and real-life. I’ve experienced something similar myself, so did my best friend and other colleagues etc… I truly salute Li Na/Donna for it… and sadly in reality, most male bosses are like Luo Bin/Harvey…. They try to talk you out of it, avoid it, delay it…. Some are so bad that they even make you feel guilty by insinuating that you don’t deserve it although they’ve promised prior which is now probably considered gaslighting (that’s when it’s time to resign)… and I had to learn the hard way that in life, it truly is as presented in the drama…. 😢 When you want a helicopter, you ask for a plane…. And you have to ask repeatedly regardless of how you feel because people will always push back… and as a manager, I also understood the natural differences between male vs. female and why Luo Bin did wot he did, that would most likely have happened in real life too.
Really surprised at the low rating here… I felt it’s a 8 to 8.5 per MDL standards…. I actually enjoyed it more than the official Korean remake of Suits… the cast here for one is on average much better/closer to the original Suits… I’m so glad I gave this a try, I nearly didn’t because of the low score… and my disappointment in the Korean remake… I was a big fan of the original Suits.
Also, I’ve always found Wang Yang to be a very charming and a solid actor…. But after watching him here, I really have new respect for him…. His versatility really came through…
oh no do i have to wait until episode 57, only got to ep 3 now
Haha, they get together much earlier, you can observe the progress in their affection for one another. I remembered it was Ep 57…. But you could probably feel it earlier…..? I even went back to rewatch some of the episodes randomly… they are kinda awkward initially… totally wouldn’t have felt they could be sooooo sweet. 🤣 you are at episode 3… they don’t have the best chemistry… no?
As much as the drama was super polarising…. I.e super realistic vs. Super illogical/unrealistic wrapped up in a bundle…. So many specific scenes ‘hit close to home’…. I.e ‘I’ve witnessed it growing up, I’ve experienced it myself, I’ve seen it happen to friends/colleagues, I’ve been asked about it’ etc etc.
The problem arises when all these elements, scenes, themes, realism, friendship etc are weaved into one…. The final product comes off as kinda weird and makes you wonder if one should view this as a slice-of-life, realistic, thought-provoking watch or an entertainment watch… and it most certainly didn’t come off as a combination of both…
I still want to say…. After watching the 1st episode…. I couldn’t stop myself from continuing just to find out… and I just got sucked in…. Amongst all the jarring inconsistencies in logic.
P.S - I discovered post-completion that this is another Feng Xiao Gang drama…. 🤣 I watched Echo which was just about as controversial as this one…. Lol… albeit a completely different genre… but one thing is for sure is the whole topic of feminism received polarising opinions, mostly negative…. And somehow only applies to his dramas, not his movies…..? I’m not his fan neither anti-fan, just found this amusing, regardless… after these 2 experiences, I do really look forward to his dramas… ✌🏻
Peng Pai....he seems , at first glance, a successful, even tempered nice kind of guy but why is he in the wrong…
Lol. Although I’m 2 yrs late… but I just want to say, I totally felt the same way…. I believe it’s coz he is a rendition of a lot of guys we meet in real life (I.e kudos to the actor, but his entire physique, demeanour combined with the traits of the character brought it to life, making it so very relatable).
In a way he is actually super ‘real’…. At least that’s wot I thought. Mainly coz in any relationship (including familial), you never really know unless there is a real conflict of interest. A lot of the other male leads also remind me of guys I’ve met in real life…. But Peng Pai was the one who made me continue in Ep 1, on top of Gina Jin… just to find out how they end…
Cai Xiao Lie lost her child and called Zhou Na that she's sorry and ask her to accompany her.Zuo Na Father goes…
I kinda felt the same BUT they did get a divorce… as in Zuo Na’s parents finally got a divorce with her mother getting most of the money/assets… and they kinda insinuated that her dad and Cai Xiao Lei might have ended things….. given the miscarriage.
So I would say from a ‘I’m watching a TV drama’ perspective it was kinda infuriating….. not even kidding, but realistically…. I don’t know… I think that could really have been the case if something like that were to happen in Mainland… I personally found it unrealistic, but at the same time if I were to really think about it, it could have also been viewed as ‘realistic’…..? But I was 🤬 whilst watching the whole thing unfold. Lol. Someone at the bottom commented on gaslighting…. Which I actually agree.
Cai Xiao Lie lost her child and called Zhou Na that she's sorry and ask her to accompany her.Zuo Na Father goes…
Hey, do you know if they got a verdict on the Bei Le case? I tried rewatching because I thought I missed it but it seems like it just ended with his ridiculous mother storming out of the law firm….? Kinda disappointed they didn’t show the courtroom scene for this case.
But she is also flawed in a sense whereby I think a lot of modern, educated young women can relate to…. Constantly trying to be perfect… which I think fortunately for her….
