What if the crown prince is not the mastermind, but instead is covering up for his father?
Totally wishing hard that the CP isn’t… he’s been sucha good elder brother and fair character. I actually like that the CP isn’t useless.. On the brighter note, am impressed that they managed to keep the suspense on the mastermind for the overarching arc. No idea why but most C-dramas fail in this sense. Think only Ancient Detective achieved this.
I can only agree with that, she adds the necessary spice to the drama and I like her sibling-like relationship…
Yeasss! Her outfit and everything was super fashion forward (esp given it’s a costume drama…..) she really is so cool here… and her face really fits the role/character, which I really think is a super important factor! I find it super bizarre that it’s so ignored in C-dramas. Love that she has such strong vibes of a general albeit not especially tall or masculine (it’s mostly just her presence!) and her relationship with the ML!❤️❤️❤️
Wow. I love He Rui Xian here. Her hair and makeup makes her look ethereal… she’s already got sucha unique face… this role is perfect for her. Super cool and badass.
Why is the rating so low……. But the first few episodes are surprisingly so damn good…..
To all whose watched all the episodes, does the series deteriorate as it progresses? Sighs, I hope not…. Why is it that so many C-dramas get dumb editing and/or ridiculous development…..?
Sighs, nothing comes close to SoML… that actually had so much wisdom woven in. I’m dropping this… kinda disappointed, coz the MDL score was so high… this is more for entertainment and just mindless watching which is fine if I really liked the leads…. I’m kinda neutral..
Ikr. I'm quite worried about editing as well, esp since it's from iQiyi.
Yea, I mean just reading the synopsis…. defo surprised it’s not at least 40 eps…. If they could do an amazing job in 36 eps, that’s defo a breakthrough for Mainland productions…. Think it would depend on the source material as well, the novel. Coz Word of Honour would be the perfect example. They did it in 36 episodes…. But there aren’t that many productions of that kind.
Regardless of how I feel about this drama, sincerely salute Esther Yu for TRULY going barefaced on-screen. Want to give her lotsa claps for not cheating. Lol.
Her acting skills, and her voice etc might be criticised and wot-nots but from wot I’ve seen in this series and the Love between Fairy and Devil…. I have to say she is quite a smart actress putting aside on whether she possesses natural talents, she really puts in a lot of thought, effort and time into her characters.
Wow. It’s only 36 episodes…. That’s super surprising. Super happy Mainland productions are evolving and progressing. Hopefully it won’t be some shitty editing.
I’ve rewatched this a couple of times…. Still a 10 for me. So many life lessons to learn… esp for a female.…
Just like Love Like the Galaxy…. Whereby I would like to strangle and disown the mother…. Over here I’d like to strangle and disown the father….. both characters are so……. Realistic and real…. Yes, perhaps a tad exaggerated BUT I assure you… they most defo exist more often than not in Asian families. Kudos to the author of the novel and screenwriters. ❤️❤️❤️
For those wanting more details on certain scenes in the series i.e more on Hai Shi’s background, interactions with the Sheng Family and her importance, more on Hualan’s life in her husband family and more on wot happens in the He + Cao family after Ming Lan etc etc…. Please do read the novel… it’s actually worth the read. I was super curious.

So many life lessons to learn… esp for a female. Lol, I actually think guys should also watch this, so many things for them to learn too…. 🤣🤣🤣 as much as it’s on the extreme end and not exactly applicable to current times because it portrays sucha patriarchal society (and also superb family oriented which might not be applicable to all cultures/races) but a lot of instances/scenarios still hold true in the modern society now. Wished I got to watch this when I was like 15-16 yrs old…. Probably would have changed a lot of my outlook on life.
Sword and Brocade. Not as good, but very similar gist and messages. Main theme is regarding family politics as…
It’s called “Legacy”… ☺️ sorry, the way I said it was a bit confusing. It is a family politics drama with the backdrop being laced with political instability/war times.
