They indeed are. There has been a flood of Chinese/korean/japanese light novels with this trope for some time & now we seem to be in the getting adapted phase.
Why didn’t SW immediately go to the capital? The current grandma Qin that we see isn’t QW’s biological grandma anyway. I understand novel has transmigration plot, in that case, why were they living with the family’s 3rd branch instead of living with QW’s actual uncle.
I thought she had her head cut off and then had her wedding dress put on her?But in the forest scene, she is wearing…
I personally interpreted that as they couldn’t show her without clothes due to censorship. They could have implied this if camera angle was different but her upper body was in frame with the way they shot it.
am I the only one who is not really that annoyed by ML sister?? maybe I also don't like her that much but I don't…
Same, if she were the main character of a show I’d have dropped it like a hot potato. But as a side character with minimal screen time, it’s fine, at least right now.
He doesn’t want her to have any leverage over him, hence he rejects the first time. But even so he hears her 3 demands to find her intention, because of which he knows she wants to move against the crown prince as well. All he has to do is follow whatever she is investigating to get the clue, which is what he does and finds abt the gamble den. Later when she offers to paint again, it’s practically pointless. He already has the den as the clue, so why work with her and give her the chance to gain a leverage over him in any way.
I’ll be surprised if SZY wasn’t feeling as cringed as I was watching the pretend lunch scene. Man must feel such whiplash over how different her true personality and pretense personality are🤣🤣
I just noticed and wonder if I’m just overanalyzing. But there seems to be a parallel between the characters, not just Mi Rae and Hosu but also Miji and Sejin.
Mirae and Hosu are the obvious ones & acknowledged in the show as well - Both were brilliant students but had to visit the hospital one too many times. Both seem cold and uninterested on surfact but at heart both are essentially good people.
Miji and Sejin both have a grandparent figure(for Miji her grandmother, for Sejin his grandfather) who they care about a lot and make a life-changing decision because of them. Both have this “bright” personality on the surface, giving off the vibe of someone with no care in the world, but are obviously people who in fact care a lot.
So far the romance is there in sort of slice of life way, if that makes sense. The character’s romance life…
Give it a go I’d say. If you enjoy action, the last 15 mins of epsd1 will be really fun, I really liked the camerawork. It’d also give you an idea in what capacity romance is there. I’m not a fan of love triangle either. But the action/comedy part has hooked me enough that I don’t really care abt that possibility rn.
Is the romance part too prevalent? I wanna start watching but all I see is romantic edits and lee sang yi being…
So far the romance is there in sort of slice of life way, if that makes sense. The character’s romance life is a part of their life and we get to see it but that’s not all there is in their lives. It’s also not pure action/thriller either, comedy is a part of the equation as well.
she's not that close with him so it makes sense she's guarded and wouldn't easily let him in on the secret. I…
I do agree she's a bit a dense in that respect. I guess that's exactly where we will see her character development. Let's see what next episodes bring!
While all is well, there is one thing that is making it hard for me to wholeheartedly root for Miji. I really disliked how she gaslighted Hosu, telling him he is self-centred, just so that her lie doesn't get caught. She knows him well enough to know that he's the kind of person who would take that feedback seriously; he will doubt himself. It comes across as if she is intentionally using his weakness against him, or am I just overinterpreting it? But I do hope Hosu gets at least a sincere apology from her when she finally reveals the truth.

It was exactly the sulfur arc where I decided to not look too closely or use my brain too much with these “technical” arcs. otherwise my overally logical brain would feel the same frustration. Anyway, thank you for answering my question! Seems they really changed her character and associated arcs a lot.
Although I agree the dialogue between two cousins was well written and performed in a touching and convincing…
I’m curious, how different is her character in the novel? I haven’t read it, but at least in the drama her character is quite consistent. In the first episode itself, it’s not like XQ made her pass out and then it was too late to turn around. She had a choice to stand her ground and say that it’s her responsibility as the governor’s daughter. But she took the first chance she got to leave. She did the same thing with boya, she didn’t plan to take Boya like XQ suggested, nor does she even talk abt it with BZ but unilaterally decideds. Her decision and actions in today’s episode were quite in line with her past actions, neither surprising nor unexpected.
