But also people are finding it slow in pacing, and lack memorable scenes. Which I do get to an extent. But I think the ratings will pick up. There's a lot that seems to be building up between the lines, so I'm sure there will be memorable scenes later that people will share on social media, getting people to pick it up again. Plus the army of bingewatchers that always come in right near the end. We've seen this with other shows in the past - there's no really much point in being worried this early on - especially as the ratings aren't related to triggery content.
But it's not uncommon for people to give up on watching while it airs, and then giving it another shot later on when the plot is more developed and people are sharing the memorable/unpredicted moments on social media. Currently, as cute and intriguing as I am finding enchante, there hasnt really been much for memorable/impactful/hooking scenes - so I can see where some of the lack of enthusiasm is coming from.
I think the wealth aspect will be a concern - at the very least on Theo's part. Theo really really hates being thought of as wealthy. We saw it this episode with how the school and students were treating him. But we saw it last episode as well - with Akk's comments about public transportation and having to tidy his room. So I think Theo will be concerned about Akk treating him as a "young master" or something. Especially when the 4 other guys start playing their games. I also wonder if Theo will feel like he's a burden to Akk (considering the whole job firing scene, having to rescue him from being lost, etc).
That library scene was so adorable and it really does show that he's comfortable with Akk.
I picked up on the memory reference as well. Like he said that Akk doesn't remember anything - but last episode we saw that he remembered the ice cream shop deal, and the airplane pen. So, so far it seems like he's got a great memory - but he's not mentioning something that Theo obviously thought he would. I'm so curious what it is.
I do wonder if we're gonna see something like from Lovely Writer. When Theo went away as a child, he was definitely expecting to see Akk, but Akk hid behind a curtain. He was also holding onto the fox pillow instead of having it packed up. Which I guess wouldnt normally mean anything - UNLESS the fox pillow is a symbol of a promise, and probably a promise that had to deal with the The Little Prince story.
But even if we know who is endgame, it doesn't mean that the rest is going to be painfully predictable. I am a writer, and an avid reader. There's a lot of ways this could go right now. I'm curious enough to keep watching. Perhaps when people start sharing more memorable or less predictable scenes other people will get curious again. It's happened with shows in the past.
If this show achieves what it wants, and has those shareable and memorable moments, the plethora of binge-watchers will get those numbers up no problem.
Also, Enchante seems quite trope heavy and standard in the trailer - so it turned a lot of people off - especially BL "veterans" who are really wanting something new. So, many people are waiting till they either hear more about it or until it's all done.
Many shows are quite slow to get views in the beginning. Time will tell.
Enchante feels like it's going to be quite trope heavy. So I wouldn't be surprised if it turns into a confession situation, but it also might just be a way to see Akk taking care of Theo. Who knows. We'll see next episode I suppose.
Honestly, Phupha is giving me antagonist vibes. But there also appears to be some sort of history between Phupha and which ever one they ran into in the store. Perhaps something will happen there? Or perhaps they'll both cause trouble with Theo in order to one-up each other. Idk. Theories theories.
I'm not hooked per se. But I am curious. The Akk-Theo scenes are really cute. And I'm a sucker for friends-to-lovers tropes, and they appear to be endgame.
Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if people are rating the show as a whole so low - it seems people really dislike these first few episodes.
Other shows have done so (In Between comes to mind). It also allows for more countries to have access - since YouTube isn't available everywhere.
As for WeTV/Tencent. No clue. It seems that Tencent/WeTV might be figuring stuff out since several shows that were supposed to be slotted for Tencent dont seem to be going on there. Perhaps they're figuring out their contracts after Line Thailand shut down? All hypotheticals.
But Mandee's comment under the link you just included had said that Tencent/WeTV would be for Thailand, Vietnam , Philippines, and maybe a few others. So it might be the local streaming they are choosing. Tencent/WeTV loves to geoblock their stuff.
*Edit: Holy shoot. It does work!
