I really dont like tao luns character.... I dont know why
I've just finished episode 34, only 2 more to left. Initially, I really liked Tao Lun. He was caring, understanding and supportive of Luo Xi, the women he loved. He loved her quietly for a long time, and even gave up things of great importance to him so he could help and pursue her. Even when she rejects, he takes it well. But, slowly, I started to dislike his character. One of the reasons I really love Luo Xi is that she was very direct and clear when she turned down Tao Lun. She didn't suddenly avoid him for 20 years or drag in on for another 40 years. She clearly tells him how she feels about him and doesn't start acting differently towards him. She handled it very maturely, which I swear I never see in dramas. But, despite being rejected 2,654,395 times, Tao Lun keeps pursuing Luo Xi and tries to stop the relationship between her and Zhang Min/Chi. He claims he's stopping their relationship because he doesn't want Luo Xi to be hurt in the future, but nah, deep down he's simply being selfish. Then, finally, the icing on the cake is his reaction and actions following the clip he hears near episode 30. He suddenly becomes so hostile and treats Zhang Min/Chi + his father like complete shit. He barely knows any accurate information/facts about what really happened in the past but acts so sure of himself. The way he talks to them from that point forward is so annoying, always looking arrogant and smug. Also, he's mad that Zhang Min/Chi wants to start his own business and his father might be helping him. Why is he so upset/angry over that? His father is still Zhang Min/Chi's biological father and it's completely fine if he wants to use his own funds to help his son. It's like he wants Zhang Min/Chi to completely disappear. He was willingly handed down the general manager position, company stocks and chairman title by the people he dislikes so much. Now I'm not a 100% sure about this, but doesn't he partly steal Zhang Min/Chi's business idea at the end of episode 34? If I'm right, then he's an even bigger douche. Anyway, I pretty much hate him now and I can't see that changing in the last 2 episodes. Also, I think the actor who portrays Tao Lun is a big reason for the way I feel about his character. I don't know if it's because he's a good actor or a terrible one.
Sorry about the essay long rant. Just felt frustrated after finishing episode 34 and your comment just set me off lol.

Is there bromance in this series?
He has some good relationships with people surrounding him, but I wouldn't class them as bromance. Not even close tbh. If I remember correctly, out of all the male figures, Lin Dong has the best/closest relationship with his sect master. If you're looking for bromance, I think this isn't the right drama for you.

You replied to the wrong person bud. I really like Park Bo Gum and think he's a good actor. I first saw him in Hello Monster and have liked him since. I think you meant to reply to "palak."

Haven't seen Reply 1988, but I don't think hating a character should make you dislike the actor who portrays him. Coincidentally, I finished re-watching Moon Lovers yesterday, and, I agree with you, in my opinion Moon Lovers is far better than Love in the Moonlight and I'm still sad that there isn't a second season. But, I still liked Love in the Moonlight and Park Bo Gum seemed like a perfect fit for that role. Anyway, I don't think any of what you stated is his own fault in any way. I thought that the reason you disliked him was maybe a scandal or something that I hadn't heard of. Anyway, we all have our own opinions.

My least favorite actor of all time is making a cameo in the finale - Park bo gum. lol.

The low ratings in Korea may more or less be related to their history. It can be a sensitive topic depending on…
Still... It's a bloody drama. If people wanted something historically accurate watch a documentary.

I really love the main couple. They're really cute together. It is quite clear deep down Zhang Min is a sweet guy, but because of the way he's been treated by his biological parents he has a cold exterior. His mother only cares that he becomes the heir/chairman, and his father only uses him to benefit the company. They both never really care about Zhang Min's opinions or feelings. The closest thing he ever had to a loving parent was his step mum, but although he knows that she cares about him, it's very clear to him that he can never fill the void of her real son. So, it kinda makes sense for Zhang Min's personality to be the way it is. He focuses on his own tasks and just talks business. I hate it every time someone says to Luo Xi 'what do you see in Zhang Min?' Like really? The guy is good looking, sweet, loyal and affectionate towards her. Also, he's quite successful. Everyone around Luo Xi treats him like he's a certified asshole or some shit. No, he's quite a good guy. I dunno, some people seem to have disliked the male lead but I really like him. The only thing that I didn't like about him was that he wasn't decisive with turning the second female lead down for marriage. Either turn down the marriage or stop going after Luo Xi. I think he should have just said no much earlier, but I kinda understood him since his mother is mentally unstable.
Also, what the hell was Tao Lun's reaction to finding out that Zhang Min is his brother in episode 30. He barely even heard anything in the clip and he starts making assumptions. He instantly blames him for everything. It was kinda weird and out of place with his personality too. Hope he doesn't stay that was until the end.
Oh and finally, I hate snake like characters like that bloody uncle. I wanna punch him every time I see his face.

Every time I re-watch this drama it makes me so sad and I'm reminded each time that the second season I want so badly will likely will never happen.
I don't think there's any other drama that I've been so emotionally invested in. There are so many characters and relationships that you care about. I remember the first time I watched this, I cried like a little baby. I had such a hard time getting through the last couple of episodes. This is one of the few sad endings of a drama that I would never change, which is why I wish there was a second season for a much deserved happy ending.
I still don't understand how this drama had low ratings in korea.

Is there good romance? Is it a big part of the plot? Or is it just one or two scenes here and there?
Yes, there definitely is romance. It wasn't too light or heavy. It isn't the main focus but it's certainly there.

After finishing this, I feel glad that I watched this drama. This is because there were no characters who were simply good or bad. They had somewhat valid reasons for their actions, so you understood where they were coming from. In the end everything is solved and it felt good.
Kinda wish there was more romance, especially after they both confess and get together, but still I wasn't disappointed. It was light but it felt just right. I just wanted some more cute and supporting scenes together. I think that would have made the ending much more satisfying.
I've read some of the comments. People seem to have disliked the female lead. But, I really liked her. I remember her from watching A Korean Odyssey. I felt she did a great job in that drama too. She's a great actor. Also, I didn't find her character annoying at all. Her actions and emotions were understandable considering her past and caring personality.
Anyway, I really recommend watching.

Overall, I enjoyed this drama. It did a very good job of portraying the journey and change that Rong Jin Zhen goes through. Cheney Chen did a brilliant job acting too.
But, there were a few things that kinda felt out of place and made me feel quite annoyed.
Firstly, I hated how every time something went wrong, a majority of the characters blamed someone else. Instead of trusting and supporting each other, they instead bashed someone and made them feel worthless. Also, I hated how people treated Jin Zhen initially, but that might be historically accurate since in that time period his disability probably wasn't as well know or received. The romance felt so forced. I would have much preferred Jin Zhen ending up with the other woman. She treated him so well. She was one of the only people who truly loved him for who he was. Never mistreated him. I was kinda sad when she left.

Can you please dm me the link to where you watched it?
Thanks for the reply. I was already watching it on netflix but the episodes were released quite slowly. I get quite impatient so I was just looking for a website that released the episodes quicker, even if they didn't have subtitles.

I have a love and hate relationship with revenge dramas. I really like the premise of revenge dramas, but, typically,…
The ending 10-15 minutes could have easily ruined the drama. It would have been another revenge drama with the male lead randomly dying in the end just for the sake of dying. It was good to see the male lead survive and start living his life properly.

I have a love and hate relationship with revenge dramas. I really like the premise of revenge dramas, but, typically, I find them overly dramatic and unrealistic. This is mainly due to the acting and actions of the main lead who is seeking revenge. They tend to clearly show every emotion they feel which would easily give away their intentions and secrets that they are trying to hide. Also, their morality and righteousness stops them from doing whats necessary to succeed in taking their revenge, which ends in them losing control of situations and being exposed.
As usual, Jang Hyuk delivers an incredible and captivating performance, and his character (I'll just refer to him as his character since he has 3 different names) was brilliant too. In numerous scenes, he keeps a poker face and doesn't show much change in his facial expressions, and yet he expresses so much with his eyes and gaze. It felt real, like that's how someone with his purpose should act in those situations. Also, his character was smart, competent and in control, which I loved to see. And, his character didn't allow his own feelings and attachments to get in the way of his plan. He did whatever was needed for his revenge. It just made things so much more interesting. But, I do kinda wish there was more back story/explanation behind how he was such a good attorney. Would have been interesting to see some flashback scenes showing how he became the person he is, someone who is extremely smart and always in control, despite not having as much power as the other characters since he didn't have the last name Jang (initially of course).
The drama is quite slow paced tbh, but I didn't really mind. It was always interesting and kept me engaged.

Omg I have such conflicting feelings about this drama! The first 8 episodes or so seemed soooo slow to me, but…
I agree, rooftop scene was unnecessary, but luckily it didn't ruin the drama. After all that Pil Joo had been through and accomplished, had he died to something so random and stupid, I would have been so disappointed. I took that scene as the writers way of showing the false identity of Kang Pil Joo can finally be put down, and alongside it all the pain it carried. Now, Jang Eun Cheon can start a new life and find happiness.

3 years late reply lol, but yh I agree. I feel this could have been much better if it had different main leads, especially a different male lead. Nothing against Kim Nam Gil, I absolutely love the guy and I think he's a good actor, especially in comedic roles. But, I don't think he really fit the character he was playing. I don't really know how to put it. His performance felt unconvincing in a way. I don't really know see how the females fell for him. His eyes felt expressionless most of the times.

Cha Jae Wan/Hyun Woo is one of the most pitiful characters I've seen in a drama. I felt so bad for him. Although 32 episodes was a little too long, I overall enjoyed the story.

This drama started off really nice, and the sweet chemistry between Seung-Joo (FL) and Dak Ju (ML) was warming…
Completely agree. I enjoyed this very much for like the first 10-12 episodes, then it went full melodrama with irrational and unnecessary conflict and arguments, especially between the main couple.
Also, I got so tired of seeing Seung Joo's family being such despicable and shameless cunts. Her mom was a complete bitch, and the brother was selfish, naive, little twat. Imagine having a family like that. It'd be like having cancer. Something slowly growing and killing you. Eventually, you'd just lose your will to live. Rather than having a family like that, it'd be better having no family at all.
