Why are so many wuxia dramas so forgettable? In my opinion, the wuxia genre could do so much better. Everything about the genre is so appealing and draws you in immediately. The fighting scenes/choreography are so unique and cool. The scenery and costumes are simply beautiful. The limit to what you can do in a wuxia drama is your imagination and creativity. The writer has so much to work with. There are so many opportunities to develop characters properly, and move the plot forward in ways that keep the viewer's interest, while still keeping things realistic (by realistic I mean the decisions made by the characters, and not the setting/genre itself). Yet, majority of the wuxia dramas are filled with cliche characters whose brains are filled with noodles, and the leads always walk around his circles with no real character development. The worst is always the dialogue. It's so stiff and unrealistic. It makes it hard to get emotionally invested into the drama. It's just so disappointing. This is pretty much the average wuxia drama. It's filled with hypocritical and unreasonable characters to create conflict. There are many misunderstandings. The leads don't really change significantly and are repeating the same things again and again. I can't tell if it was the acting, or just the terrible unrealistic and cringe dialogue that made it difficult for me to feel the love between the leads. I'm guessing it was the dialogue tbh. They're like a broken record. Wallowing in self pity and talking about the same things like a billion times throughout the drama. You kinda just lose interest over time. The second prince (Xue Lie) stood out for me. I dunno if it was just his very punch-able face, or great acting, but he really made me hate his character, which means he must have done something right.
Deciding which one to watch. The winner is love? Or The legend of the awakening? Both have mixed reviews.
I've recently finished both. They're not anything special and very forgettable. If there was a deciding factor, it would probably be which cast you prefer. If you haven't already, watch some of the more popular wuxia dramas with good reviews. A recent drama that's really good is Joy of Life.
It's the law of opposite attracts, I'm sure they had a sweet beginning but reality sinks in and neither is willing…
Yeah, I hope this happens too. We're already at episode 8 and Dae Hyun still believes he loves Yeon Joo. He still hasn't really developed any romantic feelings for Saet Byul. They really need to break up soon to have a natural, mature and realistic transition from him having feelings for Yeon Joo, to him developing/realising his feelings for Saet Byul and falling in love with her. If they delay this and try to cram this stuff in like a couple of the ending episodes, it'll feel so rushed and ruin the entire drama for me.
It's the law of opposite attracts, I'm sure they had a sweet beginning but reality sinks in and neither is willing…
Episode 8 was kinda dumb. Yeon Joo makes out with another dude, and then after a little talk with Saet Byul, she suddenly realises what a great guy Dae Hyun is and runs after him. Now there's gonna be another scene of a stupid misunderstanding blah blah blah, which has happened like 3 times already.
It's the law of opposite attracts, I'm sure they had a sweet beginning but reality sinks in and neither is willing…
I think opposite attracts actually forms some of the best relationships. When two people are very different, but still attracted to each other, it forms a relationship where there is a lot of expression of feelings, bickering and confrontation, which results in excitement and growth. I agree though, it clearly didn't work out for these two, and it's time they call it quits, hopefully in a peaceful manner, but I doubt that'll end up happening.
Dae Hyun and Yeon Joo's relationship makes me feel so uncomfortable. They have such a terrible relationship dynamic. I don't feel any real love from either of them. Dae Hyun is constantly trying to please Yeon Joo with his actions. He's basically walking on eggshells around her, trying to make sure she doesn't get offended. Even if she's wrong or her actions make him feel unhappy/upset, he never confronts her about it, instead, he suppresses his emotions every time. Yeon Joo doesn't really give anything in this relationship. Everything is done on her terms. She often feels embarrassed of Dae Hyun's actions. And, given that she doesn't want him to meet her family after two years of dating implies she feels uncertain about their relationship. The time that they spend together doesn't make me feel like either of them makes the other truly happy. They are not just different in their status in society, but they are just two very different people, who don't really make each other better in any way. I would have loved to see how they started dating. What even attracted them to each other?
If you were so disgusted by the father only means the actor did a pretty good job at it :) (reminds me of Joffrey…
I wasn't stating my dislike for the actor playing the character. I was stating my dislike for the character itself. But, I do understand that I might have come across that way. I do agree that people should be able to separate actors from the characters they portray. Joffrey is pretty much a perfect and very sad example. Jack Gleeson gave such an incredible performance. Joffrey is one of the most hated characters ever, and a large reason for that was his acting, which means he did an amazing job. Instead of being praised, a lot of people gave him unnecessary hate, which was just so stupid.
This was one of most beautiful romances I've seen. The main leads relationship just made me feel so happy. They had insane chemistry so the the romance felt very real. It was very mature and immature at the same time. We got to see their relationship develop slowly from strangers to enemies to coworkers to neighbours to friends to best friends to lovers. It was honestly just perfect, at least until episode 33. I would literally recommend this to everyone who likes romance dramas. Unfortunately, in episode 33 things changed, which ruined the next 10 episodes. Only the last episode was satisfying after that. There was unnecessary conflict between the leads, which, for me, kinda destroyed the amazing relationship they had built. I'd recommend skimming through the next episodes, until you reach the final episode. Despite the disappointing ending quarter of this drama, I would still watch this because their relationship was just that good.
I was so disgusted by the father. His only concerns were his reputation, job and retirement plans. He was pretty much selling one daughter off to secure his retirement plans, and telling another to not divorce some bastard who was physically abusing her because it would damage his reputation. The most upsetting thing about this is that there are more than likely fathers like this in the real world. I absolutely loved the sisterly love between the three siblings. They were so supportive of each other. It was heartwarming to see. Overall, its quite a good romance drama.
At the beginning of the show, she never does. But as the show progresses, we see her smile more and more. The music…
Agree. I mean the drama has a slow burn romance tag, which implies that the story will most likely progress slowly, so you kinda know what you're getting into. Also, imo a slowly developed romance is always better than a 'falling in love at first sight' and getting together immediately after, it's just so boring. And, did they stop watching after a few episodes? The female lead smiles and laughs a lot, especially in the second half of the drama. The drama has a melodrama tag too, which implies this wouldn't all be sunshine and rainbows. But, I do agree about the music. It didn't bother me much, but it could have been much better. It was pretty lame.
Sometimes I really don't understand how ratings work in Korea. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo also had low ratings…
Yh, I'm aware of the main reasons that lead to Moon Lovers having low ratings, but I was still disappointed because imo it was a much better drama than Love in the Moonlight (I really liked this drama too). Anyway, I'm just a little sad that this isn't breaking records. If the quality doesn't decline, this will hands down be the best drama I've watched, and trust me, I've watched a lot of dramas. I mean seriously, I wouldn't even understand how you could not like this drama.
the rating in Korea doesn't seem to be very good, such a shame because this is easily one of the best drama I've…
Sometimes I really don't understand how ratings work in Korea. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo also had low ratings and wasn't received well, so it didn't get a second season. Imo it had so much heart and was much better than your average Korean drama. This drama speaks for itself. The six episodes released have been absolutely incredible. Each episode has easily been at least 9/10. How is it even possible for this to have low ratings?
This was pretty much your average wuxia drama. The plot was quite interesting. The story was fun and engaging in the beginning, but it kinda just slowly fizzled out. The acting by the main leads was quite weak. Like seriously tho, why do so many wuxia dramas have main leads that haven't got the acting chops to carry the drama? Arthur Chen is pretty much a perfect star if he had better acting. He's great looking and has this incredible charisma. I feel like more effort should be put into improving the acting of some of these younger actors. Compare the acting from someone like Yeo Jin-goo to this and it becomes a complete joke. Anyway, I found Chu Min to be the best part of this drama. Scenes with her were always funny. This drama definitely has many flaws, but then again, pretty much every wuxia drama is like that. If you enjoy wuxia drama, then maybe give it a go. Some people might really enjoy this.
It's easy to wait every week, as long as you binge watch another more addictive drama.
No, it really isn't easy. For me, when I get really emotionally invested in a drama I go crazy waiting a week for the next episode. It doesn't happen often tbh since the drama has to be special, but when it does, it's really mentally taxing doing that for months until the drama finishes. My mind literally starts thinking about the drama all the time. This was the worst while watching game of thrones. Waiting years for the next season, and then the weekly episodes too. Mental torture. Anyway, what dramas are you binge watching right now that are more addictive than this?
Honestly quite a good drama, which was massively let down by the ending. The ending is way too rushed and doesn't give a proper conclusion to many of things that happened in the drama. I think if this drama had like at least 4 more episodes (4 hours) to conclude everything properly, it would have been far better. If you can forgive the rushed ending, then I'd definitely recommend this. The romance was really cute and the plot was quite interesting.
