Sasame-kun is so funny xDD I'm dying with his trying too hard to be a manly cool man hahaha definitely a great…
I agree with Sasame kun being funny & his struggle with being cute Vs cool. I like how his character comments on how masculinity is perceived. I don't agree about the president though xD I can't stand him haha

Asahi is such a good female character, at least imo. Usually women are in the workplace are shown as either cold,…
I'm very impressed with her too. I especially liked her line about how no one would call her impressive if she were a man doing the same job. And that a woman eating alone doesn't mean she's lonely. She's just been written as an actual human woman rather than a caricature of one. I don't think it's any suprise that the screenwriter is a woman ^^

Title Takane no Hana-san Spoiler
She probably does like that he's cute and a little clumsy, but maybe also that he tries hard, seems sincere &…
I think it can still be seen as a role reversal. There are MLs that are cold in public but manchild/cutesy when the FL gets to know them.

In these circumstances the FL takes on a nurturing type role. Then they help the ML learn to be comfortable with who they are.

A similar situation could happen here?

A philosophical question: Why Takane-san fell in love with Yuwaki? Some men love a woman because she is clumsy,…
She probably does like that he's cute and a little clumsy, but maybe also that he tries hard, seems sincere & is kind. I guess it's hard to tell without some background to it.

It does seem to me they are gender flipping it, which I like. He's attracted to the hot, stern/mean, successful, hardworking boss & she likes the cute clumsy but well meaning subordinate.

The inner monologue makes it special & hilarious though xD

I'm just a bit sad at how her brother went to achieve his dream but then came back to his flower shop. It wasn't…
I think it's quite realistic, he most likely decided to give up when it didn't work out quickly enough for him. Although I don't see it as that sad because, even though he gave up on his first dream, he at least made an active decision this time to work as a florist.

1) I started out hating the mom but I now feel so much sympathy for her. Don't get me wrong, she still has many…
Completely agree, the parents need to split up, I see no love in their marriage. Although I believe Chikako would never allow that to happen for fear of what her neighbours would say.

Shunsuke should move out and try to establish himself as his own person (whether he wants to do that half arsed is up to him).

Mokomi should carry on trying to find herself and become independent from her toxic relationship with her Mother. Maybe she could live with her grandpa, despite his flaws he seems to have a positive impact on her?

A lifetime of this damage can't be undone and set right for them all in just one epsiode. I really hope they end this right.

Agree the Mom is not in the wrong being hurt by her father's actions. (However I think that the student was a former student & hopefully that means an adult). Although I think the main reason is embarrassment, she seems to care far too much what other people think about her.

It's shown in how she's raised Mokomi too. She knew her daughter was different and instead of giving her a loving supportive environment, she chose to be selfish and chip away at Momikos self worth.

She made her feel ashamed of who she was, she controlled almost every aspect of her life and tried to force her to be 'normal'. Showing on many occasions that she valued complete strangers feelings more than she valued her own daughters. All because SHE didn't want to be viewed negatively, without a care for how Mokomi felt.

She also forced Shunsuke into a protector role, giving no value to anything he did outside of that. Ultimately making him feel resentment and anger towards Mokomi.

It may not have been intentional but I find it difficult to feel sympathy for her as a Mother. She still hasn't apologised to Shunsuke, and even though she did apologise to Mokomi she immediately went back to putting her down and making it clear she wants her to be 'normal'.

Basically I think she is a terribly toxic person. I also think this is why the rest of the family is willing to overlook the grandpa's flaws, because he actually shows them support and makes them feel heard and valid. He's clearly been the catalyst for Mokomi to make the positive changes she has. I have a suspicion that he is sick too and that's why he forced his way into their lives.

The father is self centred, he knew the Mother's treatment of Mokomi was bad, you could tell by facial expressions etc but he never spoke up. It took him having to sort his own lunch out for him to stop being passive, and even then he handled that in an awful way.

Also I agree he can't just make life changing decisions without considering his family, although I think this was a knee jerk reaction to feeling controlled and his dreams being dismissed without discussion by his wife again.

Sorry for the essay xD

The show didn't make it clear. But I remember Mum mentioning that grandpa had an affair with a student while teaching.…
Can only hope it's an adult former student, although it's likely she was still very young - maybe 18-20? If Chikako was in university at the time it still means her Dad had an affair with someone that could have been his daughter.

I think it's interesting that they've given the grandpa this flaw, it's human to make mistakes, but he doesn't seem repentant. I'd like to see him a little sorry that he hurt Chikako, even if he doesn't think he's done anything wrong, because love is love etc but he still hurt his child in the process.

He's still a likeable character though, purely because he appears to be the only member of the family to truly care about Mokomi for who she is & doesn't resent or want to change her.

I actually went back and checked, Mokomi's Dad and the Mom both said former student when talking about it, although obviously subs could vary? And the Mom said she couldn't continue her teaching degree because of the shame of having an adulterous teacher as a father. Gramps told her she could have been a teacher anyway but she said people would mock her.

This obviously doesn't excuse the behaviour but I just wanted to be sure of the details.

Also the Moms level of anger over things is not an indicator of anything imo xD earlier on in that conversation before the affair stuff broke she was livid and screaming that a neighbor was gossiping about her husband eating ramen & basically raging at him about something so trivial.

Title Long Vacation Spoiler

I bet whoever recommended this to you is pretty awesome, just a guess.

Nice article, I think it's interesting how often these dramas get compared and I think you're right, it's that they got released around the same time, both on Netflix & are from different country's.

I personally found Sweet Home much more disturbing, there might be fewer overall deaths but they seemed to be far more gruesome. I think this is probably down to the character build ups? Also the 'turning' part is very shocking and dragged out which could be hard to watch.

* SPOILERS BELOW MAYBE*

In Alice in borderland there were more deaths overall but they weren't from very important characters so it didn't hit in the same way.

Also I don't agree that Alice in Borderlands story was repetitive, yes they do play a game, live or die etc but that wasn't the whole story & the games weren't just about surviving. It's like saying Sweet Home story is repetitive because every episode they try to survive monsters, while more people keep turning & their team work is tested.

This line '"As you can expect from Japanese drama, you will find a lot of nudity and sex scenes here'" is a bit of a stretch, nudity and sex scenes aren't particularly common in jdrama.

Both Sweet Home and Alice in Borderland are NSFW imo.
