I would say ut's the emperor's mistake for being so distrusting (and yes definitely a common political trope), even though he knew his brother gave up the throne willingly for him. Is it his fault for being too brilliant? I don't think people who whole-heartedly serve their country and becomed feared by the emperor, should be the ones blamed for their downfall ..

Yeah I agree, I finished the series and still don't think he's redeemable at all, at least as a love interest for FL.

He's probably an alright person otherwise, and they gave him some minimal room to improve at the very very end of the series I guess, but I would not wish any girls on him in the future given he doesn't really seem like he'll ever completely get over his unhealthy obsession with FL

Saw him from Shine On Me, and lemme just say, he saved the show imo because he literally was my favourite character and I enjoyed every second he was on screen

Wow I mean I'm glad you think SML is redeemable, hopefully I will see something in him that will make me think he is redeemable too, because currently I don't at all (I'm around halfway through the series).

SML has been nothing but horrible to FL (I mean emotionally) - e.g. never replying to her message, never making things clear (like occassionally doing nice things for her and making her confused instead), putting her on blast about the job invitation incident and trusting the green tea bish without even attempting to stand up for FL (even though at that point he ALREADY HAD A CRUSH on her ..), saying horrible things to her during that wedding party.

I know he has his own difficulties, but I just don't see how I will ever find it in me to even pity him. Every time I see him in the series, I desperately wish he would just leave FL alone.

Of course, I meant irredeemable from the perspective of his and FL's relationship. He's definitely a respectable and good person otherwise, but the more he acts like a sad moping desperate puppy around FL the more I find him unlikeable.

I would say I had high expectations for this with the good ratings and word of mouth too, but honestly I'm feeling quite disappointed .. It's definitely refreshing to have such an emotionally mature ML (which I really appreciate), but I don't particularly relate to the MCs nor do I particularly love FL that much, which is problematic for me because I need to really love or connect to the main characters to like a series.

SML sucks, I really dislike him, and I hate that he keeps lingering around throughout the series which is seriously pissing me off. I think it is also because FL had lingering feelings for this undeserving SML for at least a third of the series that made me disgruntled and knock off points for her character. I don't even know what she sees in him ..

Exactly?? I guess it was the looks, but also that he's like studious and successful etc. etc., but it was such a shallow crush I cannot believe FL still liked him after he put her on blast like that ..

Like it's not even about who he likes, it's obvious he likes FL and never liked the other green tea bish. But the fact that he decided to not stand up or trust the person he likes??? Like come on dude, and he literally put her on blast like that in front of her friends, like nuh uh get the hell away from my girl you will never deserve her

ZhuangXu was such a red flag to me, like it was obvious he had feelings for FL, but he never manned up and said something about it, always just dropping tiny hints that did nothing but confuse FL even more because of his existing relationship with his childhood green tea bestfriend. But the moment the scene where all FL's friends and ZX confronted her about the interview incident, I literally noped out of there, like hell nah FL this type of man is not worth the effort. I even got slightly disgruntled that afterwards FL continued to hold onto this crush for like at least 5 more episodes .. (and I'm currently only at ep9 lol, already dislike this man)

Yep he's in JTL as SML (a psycho *ahem*) hahahaha. I definitely liked WOF, especially cause I've always liked LYX and there are looots of familiar people in that series, and I like the OP & misunderstood MC trope haha, I did rate it lower than BR because plot-wise it was just alright imo (and I really didn't like the ending), but it's one of the most aesthetically pleasing series I've watched. I swear LYX and BaiLu are constantly blessed with the most gorgeous character/costume designs

I'll just say that he has his own story in the latter part of the series hehe

If you're currently watching it though, I would say his character doesn't stay unlikeable
