Yeah, you really cant choose this show lightly . I did and got my soul rocked😂 I don’t really get sad watching things but I cried til I choked and I still get sad thinking of Xiao Feng😭

No, and that’s the most bitter part of the story. In the book, he’s the antagonist and doesn’t use her like in the drama. The drama has made him the protagonist but it can’t erase the essence of the book, especially with the grooming/deception storyline they added. He destroys her and nothing happens to him other than “loneliness”.
The cute, cheerfulness- I think this the brilliance of GBMP. Xiao Feng will be a completely different person by the end but the transformation is so clear, it can be seen in clips with little context. It’s also this transformation that I think makes Xiao Feng stick out- yes, she grows up but it’s at an excruciating cost. She may be a vase as she says in the show but who can bear such a beautiful and delicate one being smashed to pieces…

Money. The HBO Go offer probably included enough to pay a good chunk towards the investment in the drama. Subscriptions are where the money is at. Youtube with its freemium options probably doesn’t offer enough with the view rate I’m currently seeing.

Sese has been whitewashed in the drama. She tried to kill Xiao Feng in the book and tries to get Xiao Feng in trouble multiple times in the drama, there’s nothing innocent about her other than Li Chengyin played her (which in the book isn’t even a big deal because they were playing each until she went too far). I much prefer Xiao Feng who is kind and doesn’t intentionally hurt anyone. She’s only like 16-17 at this point too, younger than Sese, and in an unwanted and loveless marriage. Why people think she should just grin and bear it is such a mystery to me. She’s in an abusive relationship after growing up in a loving and caring environment where she was free as a bird, how could anyone dislike a girl in such circumstances trying to keep her independent spirit ? 😂”Lemme go get drunk and cause trouble for my ain’t sh*t husband”> “lemme be a doormat and step on other woman for a trash man” any day of the week for me😂

The tragedy is the destruction of the female lead as the story progresses. I wouldn’t recommend this show if this point is a deal breaker. The beauty of GBMP is that it’s not a standard cookie cutter show with everything resolved perfectly. In some ways it’s quite realistic-so many women had endings like this but in GBMP, Xiao Feng gets to be more than a few lines on a piece of paper.

It’s okay. I think a lot of fat shrimp are like this. I could really talk about her all day too😂 I really don’t understand why some people can’t see why she’s a top actress. I think she’s one of the best from 1985 onwards in terms of looks and abilities. And definitely the best in the 90s onwards for drama actresses. All of her characters feel so alive.
Bai Luo is only minutes but is so full. I’m really happy a lot of people liked the cameo. Yu Zheng dramas have such difficult looks but she actually looked super cute in the makeup test photos. It made me wonder why Yu Zheng used such an ugly one at first.
Xie Ze is the director for JJL and RoaTF much to fat shrimp’s pain😩. I really don’t understand him though.
And yes, her dad does have distinct features. She’s been asked if she’s mixed but she’s always maintained she’s not, so I go with what she says.
Although I don’t mind her cameos, I really hope she gets some meaty roles in the upcoming months.

She didn’t listen to his instructions. I’ve heard that’s the reason that he didn’t choose her. GJM is strict. She was supposed to stay looking down but looked up when she hissed. I think the move made the performance hers. The original is more ethereal and ghostly while Xiao Ran’s feels more human, closer to a vengeful spirit.
It taught her a valuable lesson-to listen to the director. Which is why I don’t agree with fans who scold her for listening Xie Ze. It feels like they forgot about that incident.
They’re telling her to dye her hair black because some people feel costume Cdramas of any type should have only black hair. I’m not sure about her hair color. Her parents don’t have brown hair. The hair in her baby photos looks dark too but a lot of her adult pics from uni onwards seem to be that brown.
BTW, did you see her cameo as Bai Luo? It was super cute and pretty

Yes, they met there but GJM also used to work with FBB. I was angry when he didn’t choose her in that show but he’s been good to her in other ways since then. GJM only loves beauty so the fact he keeps working with her says something. I too think it would be nice for Xiao Ran to be in her own group but I think she’s try to wait for better quality shows. I think doing cameos in the interim is smart though I don’t agree with all the pressure some of her fans put on her to do them. She gets to try different roles, directors, and makeup without the stress of supporting a show. It also puts her up against other stars for comparison which is not bad when it comes to understanding what makes her unique. And in some of the bigger shows, she gets more exposure/shows her popularity. I think she has a lot of quiet fans, fans who don’t do social media, and people who will watch her passing through her show’s casually. That’s the only way to describe some of her stats. I also feel like her cameo in Yu Zheng’s drama and the Reuters from GJM brought some of her older fans back into activity. There’s another Reuter hidden in a blog page:

The behaviour of some fans in the last few days really disgusted me though. GJM is really picky, especially about looks. There’s no way he’d allow a messy look on purpose. You could tell from the Reuters it was a filter issue as the hair was the same color in all the other shots, But the fans let an instigator who basically took of their fans come and wreck havoc that ruined the atmosphere again. Thank goodness the 2nd Reuters was released so everyone shut up but I wish some fans weren’t so easily led or had a bit more faith.

Cameo for Story of Mystics. Not sure of character yet but her Reuters are gorgeous. I hope GJM does right by her…tho from the BTS of their previous collabs, he seems super fond of her.

Came for the cameos and was not disappointed. Only a few minutes but each performer was really good. Also, found a new actor in Yang Xuwen. I can understand his popularity. He has an appearance reminiscent of old school actors.

If you’ve seen Rise of the Phoenix, you’re already watching the better stuff and used to tragedy. You can give Goodbye My Princess a try but it is really an emotional rollercoaster and there’s a reason why it sits with the top in terms of tragedy. There’s also Royal Nirvana which is tragic but good. Nirvana in Fire if you like intrigue. There’s the Story of Yanxi Palace which was one of Yu Zheng’s biggest hits and focuses on palace fighting. There’s Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Pavilion too. The lead actress in that drama is Zhou Xun and she’s an absolute powerhouse of an actress. Nini from RotP also has a very good fantasy drama called Love and Destiny.

Just have to wait and see, I guess. Though I think the color is fine. Judging from some of the shots if it’s an interior scene + filters, no one will be able to tell.

Have you found anything on the character? I’m trying to figure out why some fans are tearing up the hair color so much when there’s other characters with brown hair…

No the Liu Shishi one. It seems like it has a more solid cast of actors.

I followed it loosely before the official casting since she was rumored in it for awhile but no one knew the role. Once it was announced, I drifted away because I don’t follow any of the leads. But yes, it’s been like Christmas for Ransi today. We really don’t get fed too well 😂

I thought I saw someone refer to her character as Miss Qi but I guess I’ll have to wait until the official announcement. Thank god GJM’s crew is loose on the proxy filming tho. PXR’s confidentiality level is tighter than some countries. You can’t get anything out of her team if they don’t want it😭

It’s a rumor but apparently she might be a gentle but pitiful character, which really suits her looks.
