He still does that in the book. It’s actually worse in the book because I’m pretty sure he forces her to drink it. And what he says to her is pretty awful too because it implies she’s a cheater- it has nothing to do with the dad but LXX.

I think the first time it’s after he faked his own death and the second time it was to deal with the Lingbi sect.

Theres enough content but everything feels long because of the misunderstandings. The problem is they hung onto the Master thing too long. They should have started with Cangcang’s family telling her she needs to have an heir and Xiao Huan rebuffing her at every turn like in the book. Then viewers would have been like why are things like this and the jianghu story could unfold. But Xiao Huan might not be likable this way.

Novel reader here. Yes, they do. They have like 5 kids together and are still having misunderstandings. But that’s how some relationships work. And it doesn’t feel so stressful in the book.

Good guy. He has a complicated relationship with Xiao Huan but helps him out. He’s there for Cangcang after Xiao Huan leaves her alone in the palace for long periods a couple times.

They cut my Minja x Cangcang pairing. Although that last scene was humorous af😂

It achieved its purpose which was to let the other soldiers escape with the grain. The grain would help the army and the city. The Kumor arc is really fun. I like Minja a lot.

And the dialogue with Kumor is just messing with him. It’s not about him believing her but about keeping up an unbothered attitude.

They must do. I don’t see how anyone could be angry at what Cangcang did. It helped the army. They actually got rid of her highlight of saving herself. It’s a bit disappointing. It’s like the screenwriter is afraid of giving Cangcang a single moment of brilliance.

The reason why Cangcang fell into Kumor’s hands is actually really good. Dang, haters will really twist everything🙄

The problem is the source is really poor quality so the foundation to build a better story will be weak. Honestly plot wise the drama is leagues better than the book in terms of coherence. It’s the characters in the plot that seem strange. The plot moving them doesn’t make sense.

Outside the palace she’s Cangcang and there’s a few moments of anger that are Cangcang but they’ve really tamed her. They had her begging Xiao Huan when she thought LXX died. In the book she hits him pretty hard.

It’s really off-putting. Especially seeing the ML fans insult her in all types of ways knowing that her character is only like this to prop him up. I have to watch tonight’s episodes but it feels like either the palace is grafted on or the screenwriter went overboard on the suffocation of the palace arc. Either way palace Cangcang doesn’t seem to fit the outside Cangcang (and maybe that’s the point).

It’s really beautiful. Someone was compiling shots based on composition and there were so many well done shots.

Yeah, Cangcang feels weird sometimes because her logic is quite sound and so is her intelligence but she’s being forced into a plot that doesn’t work. I’m hoping that she reflects the original more once she and Xiao Huan reconcile in the Western Regions.

It’s very ugly. I’m actually thinking I might create a separate discussion space for viewers who want to positively to talk about Cangcang and her journey.

I don’t think Cangcang is dumb though. Everyone keeps saying this about her but it’s mostly related to her family which she only has her perspective while we have an omnipresent one and her demand of the full truth from Xiao Huan in order for him to rebuild the trust. In fact it seems like she’s quite willing to deal with things and suffer the consequences but Xiao Huan won’t let her.

The novel is messy, has misunderstandings, and Cangcang still gets scolded but I think the biggest problem was turning a FL novel to a ML drama. Cangcang won’t work in a ML romance. She already considered a difficult FL and ML romances tend to severely weaken or downplay the FL in order to highlight the ML. They tend to make FLs needlessly helpless and they very rarely give the audience time to like or fall in love with the FL. We rarely get to see Cangcang on her own in the palace in a non-tearful state. She’s either being distressed by Xiao Huan or in distress from Xiao Huan. We can’t really get to know her. Like the concubine affair becomes a scenario that Xiao Huan has to clean up but in the book the concubine dares to poison Cangcang so Cangcang goes to beat the stuffing out of her and if I remember right, Cangcang ends up in Kumore’s hands cause she gets kidnapped and sent to him by the same concubine as pay back-not because she ran away and got caught. Xiao Huan consults her on official matters and she rules the court in his stead when he can’t. The sense in the book is that Cangcang really doesn’t need Xiao Huan at all. I even felt it was a waste that she chased him so much. Most important is that she had already cut ties with her father before the book begins so she doesn’t trust him, especially when it comes to Xiao Huan: she actually worries about having children with him because of her father.
She’s really good in every way except for the romantic aspect. But if this Cangcang exists then Xiao Huan can’t play the saviour to the level the show is displaying. It’s completely a play to women who watch dramas for men, down to hating the FL no matter the ML’s actions. It’s a shame though because in a way it’s a limiting audience and I’ve heard all the hate against the FL is affecting viewership of the show and now Xiao Ran is getting attacked.

But she is doing an okay job as Empress. That’s the thing. She’s an okay empress at actual empress stuff other than being Xiao Huan’s companion and she offered him an olive branch in that regard. He didn’t take it.
