Maybe itâs because I donât really follow other Chinese stars closely or maybe itâs my fan filter but Iâve often wondered why the criticism of her seems so harsh in comparison to other actresses when she is pretty low-key too. Her fan base rarely gets into fights with other fan bases but there is a group that doesnât like her for various reasons and they actively campaign to turn people against her and spread rumors about her all the time. They did a lot of the work to trash Xiao Fengâs character as wilful to the point where some viewers canât watch the barrage anymore. The way Yezi is being scolded fits the same pattern and I wouldnât be surprised if it was them because they spend a shocking amount of energy trying to tear PXR down. 9/10 if something negative comes out, theyâre either involved in it or get involved in it to trash her.

Episode 21 was so good. I felt like thatâs the quality the show would have had originally. FSF and PXR really do play well together. Even their kiss scenes look good despite Cdramas usually having trash kisses. I watched the bed scene on repeat basically to watch their micro expressions but I really wished they hadnât cut YXM pulling Yezi back into bed. Seemed like he was going to try to placate her which was super cute in episode 18.
The beginning of episode 22 âŠđ. I dunno why but it was really touching. Seeing the shift of emotions on PXRâs face as she interacted with the royals, her dad, and then Yu Xiuming really killed me. Especially the little smile she gave YXM as she walked by. It really hit me how lonely Yezi was in Yebei and how leaving there was the best thing for her. It made me go back to episode 21 where I saw how much sheâs grown by how she dealt with the villagers wanting to kill her for the wolfs death. Such a clear sense of growth in 21 made me lament the cuts again. I think Iâll die regretting that I never saw the intended version.

AâRui is literally the only person who openly cares for Yezi. She even saved Yeziâs life when they were kids. If this is the only real family member youâve ever had in a world that has treated you harshly from day one, it makes sense to want to save them. Plus saving AâRui means she can love Yu Xiuming without guilt.

Actually the script for this seems really good and I think if the shows wasnât involved in the authorâs scandal, itâll probably would have been top notch at least in terms of plot and acting. Honestly low-key I think sheâs being scolded by some unscrupulous Yi Wuyou fans or anti-fans using Yi Wuyou as a cover since a Yi Wuyou fan was the first complaint I saw about the character in the showâs superchat. Yezi has been cut to pieces and as a result a lot of the powerful emotional scenes people expect from PXR have been cut as well or whatâs left is not the originally intended scene so her reactions donât always make sense. For people who donât know whatâs happened to her characterâs storyline, they think her acting isnât great and sheâs been scolded a lot domestically which is a shame. I have still enjoyed watching her so far though and Yezi is actually my favourite out of all of PXRâs characters. Her cute and lively scenes are still good. People arenât always into cutesy acting but PXR is one of the few actresses that I can watch being cute and never get sick of it. FSF is definitely the best and highest quality acting partner sheâs had so far and to me it shows. The interplay between them is really the highlight of the drama to me and has had me chasing this drama with enthusiasm for nearly a month. Iâd say going into this, to lower your expectations. Not because the actors havenât delivered but because the censorship and editing have gutted the show. Thereâs still highlights though where you can see the intended quality such as the library scene in episode 7, the medicine scene in episode 18, or the curse sequence in episode 20.
PXRâs domestic fans have begun to explain why certain scenes donât add up. Is anyone interested in the machine translated version of their explanations? If enough people are, Iâll see about making them a discussion topic.
Itâs kind of interesting that Weibo is calling Yezi a silly white sweet and a love brain and essentially scolding her but foreign viewers see her as a strong female lead. I wonder if thatâs in comparison to the character in the tidbits because I think even with the cuts, Yezi has a fiery spirit . She defies the emperor, argues with the court ministers, and even helped in an assassination attempt. Heck it took 20 episodes for Yu Xiuming to get a proper kiss from her and thatâs low-key partially cause he saved her from certain death. Thereâs also a bit of ruthlessness when she questioned the guy who supplied her stuff for the curse.
