Censorship has the final say if you want to broadcast I guess. Web dramas like this used to not be as strict but the belt tightened around them too a few years ago. It would be a shame if this version was the only version because they used to release different versions for overseas. Apparently a Korean channel bought the rights and I know they’ve ended up with different versions in the past.

I think it actually was supposed to be slow burn in the original too but we were supposed to see a smoother transition of Yezi liking Emperor Ming because at first she was out for revenge.
This show really is a shame because every now and then you can sense the quality it was supposed to have. The crew involved are being tactful about it but the director has low-key said the cuts affected the quality but it can’t be helped.
What I don’t get is why the cuts have to affect the foreign distribution? Within the country fine but why can’t a different version exist if it’s going overseas?

I think she falls back in love with him/gets back with him when she falls under the curse or when he faints after they have a major fight.

I saw that and was like “I KNEW IT”. I guess the Yebei battle must have partially been the result of that too because Yebei would have felt it had nothing to lose if A’Rui died.
I also think even without the dad, Yi Wuyou would have lied. He seems to be very into Yezi though we haven’t been able to see why. Although I will also say I don’t get the dad’s attachment to Yi Wuyou if he follows fate/omens for everything else.

I really can’t understand why they cut so much of the main lead’s romantic storyline. It’s basically what is saving this show outside of poor Yi Wuyou fans. I get we lost a lot of the plot to censorship but I don’t believe the censors cut the romantic bits. I feel like that was production or Youku and they’re hiding behind the excuse of censorship.
We’ll supposedly get a kiss in episode 20 but I’m skeptical. It really feels like they wanted to keep the main leads relationship ambiguous to attract more fans but it seems to be doing the opposite.

I heard the vice couple are people from the production company so some people are complaining because they feel they’re using the show and the popularity of the leads to sell the 2nd couple instead. It is a bit outrageous though. I’ve never seen a drama calendar include kiss scenes or weddings of the vice couple. If the big wedding icon turns out to be them, I feel the drama might hit 9000 because people will be complaining so much in the barrage😂

I like Yi Wuyou but it’s hard to judge him because there’s so few of him. I feel really bad for the actor’s fans because they’ve been really sweet and supportive of the show even though it’s cut 98% of their fav’s story.
I thought the TruthMasters looked human. I swear the ones Bai Lu met as a kid were old dudes. Maybe they look like aliens then😂.
And I don’t know what’s up with the 2nd couple but they’re really pissing viewers off.

It’s a shame. People are actually giving up on the drama now because of this. I went to look at how much is Yebei and it was so much that I feel I’ll be complaining to Youku again lol.

I thought it’s because he’s a villain and they’re not allowed to have any nice attributes anymore. So they cut the poor guy to pieces.

Actually it’s already lively today on Weibo without the 24th episode. Viewers are complaining about the vice couple because the wedding icon might actually be them. Pitchforks are out over it. It’s like a bonding experience that crosses international borders😂

The author of the book the show is based off made some comments that got him cancelled last year and that implicated the show. The show was part based off the book and part original storyline from what I understand. I suspect that a good chunk of the 11 episodes was his part of the story.

Just saw the episode 24 trailer. Things are about to get lively. Wonder who’s gonna get cussed out the most? 😂😂😂

It’s an S level drama so the budget wasn’t too bad. It’s really all the cuts that are messing things up. They cut 11 episodes out and then Youku chopped out even more. I think if we had the full version most of the stuff people are focusing on wouldn’t be as big. After seeing the disparity in quality of some scenes, I also think that the scandal messed up post production and if it didn’t happen this probably would have come out way more polished.

I think he lied too. Especially after seeing the most recent trailers. Tbh, I’ve always thought he lied but many people were saying A’Rui’s fall occurred in the repeat.

Yeah the 2nd couple are a menace at this point.

Yeah a lot of the hate is definitely anti-FSF rhetoric. Someone warned about it while they were shooting but I didn’t take it seriously. Now I know it’s real. It also didn’t help that they pitted his show against his ex who has a strong fan base and even stronger marketing. And the FL is almost always compared to her first big role no matter what see does. It’s basically become the battle cry of her anti fans but some how has become legitimate rather than called out. Youku’s marketing didn’t help and that shows fans, the fans of the character, and the show pairing fans have been weirdly active in putting this show down to the point it boggles the mind. Plus two people involved in that drama, basically have created an entire marketing strategy that tries to say she can only work with them and they come out for pretty much every drama she does to suck popularity. So that also contributed to the mess. Then the complaining videos kicked in and once one went popular a rush of them have cropped up. It’s doing better than I expected though and I think what’s happening is people are watching on some level but that they won’t admit it because of the reputation of the show. Now the cuts are eating into enthusiasm but hopefully it’ll pick up steam to make it to the Top 3 on the charts.
Honestly if they fixed the editing the story is fine. A lot of the plot elements and plot holes seems like it’s down to cuts. I think the acting is definitely the best I’ve seen in a Cdrama fantasy this year and other than obvious anti fans I haven’t seen people trash that aspect.

I saw her use her powers for the truthmaster symbol but maybe she doesn’t have full usage yet. It could be a plot hole but I suspect the explanation has been cut.
