Ngl I don’t have a clue what’s going on in Yebei/Yuezhou because my concern for that pairing was in the negative digits the moment I realised they were going to happen.
I’m waiting for the triangle too. I feel like it’s going to be at the end and not a classically messy love triangle but a power struggle. It’s seems like everyone is in love but more about their careers which is refreshing but I still don’t understand why so much Yi Wuyou has been deleted.

I remembered when I was studying film, one of my professors said that a great movie is made or broken by the editor. I didn’t believe them until I started watching Cdramas. The editing can be so rough. Even GMP, the show a lot of people are comparing this one to, had editing that made my jaw drop in disbelief, in its first iterations. On Weibo when netizen want to trash that director they call him a PPT director and you can’t even argue cause some scene transitions really come out looking like a PowerPoint presentation. 😩

4 minutes for the main couple. And one ends up in the dungeon. Feel like this is punishment for any time I’ve ever complained about too much romance between the main pairing in other dramas. This drama is really something else.😂

It depends on if you’re a VIP member. Because it’s only 25 episodes it doesn’t air as many episodes but if you are VIP, on Wednesday and Thursday there should be two episodes a day. VIP should be up to episode 18 or 19 this week. For non-VIP, I think it’s an episode a day. I think they’re at episode 5 or so. This is for Youku. I’m not sure about Viki.

I think it’s because she discovered quite early on that the Fan family is behind a lot of the corruption and unlike Emperor Ming she doesn’t have any family ties to keep her sentimental. She can think about counterattacking them without emotion and the emperor listens to her.

PXR actually mentioned this in a tidbit about the character. She also found it to be a contradiction. I think it’s more Bai Lu doesn’t believe in astrology absolutely determining fate. There’s not enough world building in the show but it seems astrology has other uses and maybe is a proper magic system in this world. That seems to be how Bai Lu uses it.

All I can say is Youku is really strange. It’s a wonder how they make money. They add filters that ruin the show’s appearance. They make cuts that ruin the plot. They support the traffic artists of other platforms with high level dramas rather than boost the profile of their own artists. They’re not as bad as Tencent but they hold onto shows forever. And then they barely advertise shows when they are airing. People often say if a show can be successful on its platform, it would have blown up on others.
With these cuts, I’m really wondering if they’re not planning something to pull more views/money out of people. I noticed some other show magically got more special episodes after airing last year. I also know Royal Nirvana essentially ended up with a second season (which I find better than the first) after its first run.
It appears in the Cdrama world directors have a lot less power. The director of this show doesn’t seem to be happy about the final result. In some cases, directors can’t control the casting, the script, or what actually airs. There’s a lot of factors out of their control so unless they are obviously bad, I try to cut them some slack. Plus a lot of poor quality of some dramas, is actually down to editing but somehow editors keep escaping public wrath and the directors get the blame.😂

There’s one official vice couple but there’s also plenty of characters that you can ship together in unofficial pairings.

Really hoping this show gets popular enough for an extended cut. If they can show the tidbits, I feel that they must not be things the censors cut but the platform. Youku is famous for making weird cuts.

Up to you if you want to keep watching but the show gets better after episode 3. The show cut 11 episodes and it greatly affected the beginning.

No episode until Wednesday. I’ve just been rewatching the sweet episodes lol.

I’m really not understanding the cuts to the romance. I don’t believe that’s censorship. That sounds more like the platform, Youku. I don’t know who they employ as editors but they all seem to be terrible at their profession.
