Yes, especially with all the anti marketing the show was receiving before start up, this show really needed leaks to show people it’s not a shoddy crew. The styling in particular is a big deal.

Honestly, leaks don’t affect much. If the story is established like with AHZ, c netizens care more about the delivery because they already know the ending. Plus, leaks are usually not of key scenes, shot from different shooting angles/distances, and lack post production. Censorship and editing will change things too. The biggest danger with leaks is setting expectations too high, which can be controlled by using few filters and high quality shots. Leaks are becoming a marketing device for dramas (not for movies though) and it’s getting to the point that if a show doesn’t have leaks, people assume something is wrong with it. For a show like this, where styling and martial arts are a big deal, leaks actually provide reassurance as it’s like a form of audit. What the crew wants to hide, they will definitely hide. If leaks are a problem, it’s best to skip the links to them. A good thing about MDL is they are usually clearly identified and some people even put them under the spoiler tag.
Please don’t come into this show thinking it’s GBMP 2.0. Ling Cangcang is the literal definition of “Fight a B*tch” energy. She will fight other concubines, her father, her husband, and emperors. She does not give af😂 She will try to do the right thing but she’s no one’s sacrificial lamb. She’s an untameable horse that will kick you in the head if you piss her off.

No, I wouldn’t say it’s close to GBMP, at least not in the book. Xiao Huan doesn’t betray Ling Cangcang like LCY betrays XF. There is a tragedy between them but it’s not for the same reason or unforgivable.
And the characters are very different. The relationship is more equal in Phoenix Stage. Rather than an abusive ML destroying the FML, Phoenix Stage is about a couple with seemingly incompatible personalities learning to have a relationship that works. Cangcang is also more hot tempered and less forgiving than Xiao Feng. She has more political acumen and martial skills and so can protect herself better. It’s a lot harder to mess with her than Xiao Feng. Other than the marriage (which in the book Xiao Huan doesn’t force, he waits for Ling Cangcang to say yes), Xiao rarely forces Ling Cangcang and actually tries to give her ways to leave the court/ gain the freedom to be her own person. He also is not as jealous and possessive as LCY- he will ask other men to help Ling Cangcang if he thinks they are good. He also rarely lets others mess with her in anyway that will hurt her or put her in danger even though his actions sometimes upset Ling Cangcang.
Are they a couple in the movie? It seems like it. They look good together.

So glad it’s getting good reviews. I really want to see Zhang Yixing and Peng Xiaoran’s pairing. They looked good together in Old Nine Gates and I’ve heard really good things about their pairing in The Legend too.
