When we submit rating, it ask if the Production, Story, Acting, etc stands out? This is probably the first movie/drama that I am submitting a rating for and I could not click on any of this. Story? Meh... Production? Erm.... Acting? Both leads have done better in other movies. In fact, Kaneshiro looks like he is struggling to act. In interviews, he had said he couldn't understand why the ML would fall in love with the FL.... OST? The songs are... cute? And oh, a little spoiler, this is a romantic comedy but no kissing scene at all. The leads didn't even had a proper hug.

Yet, yet my overall rating is still an 8. And I'm thinking if it deserves a better rating. I admire the director's courage. Such a script with no intimacy, no surprises, and very predictable ending is a big risk to undertake. And the cast dynamics:- the love between ML and FL, the friendship between FL and 2nd FL are as believable as my neighbor and I being besties... Somehow with his direction and everything combined, the movie is as addictive as popcorn and potato chips. You know you will see nothing new and neither is there great acting, but you would spend the time to finish this movie.

^__^ so happy.... I chanced on this drama on tv years back. But due to family and work commitments, only saw a few episodes here n there. Even that few eps I saw left a deep impression. I have almost forgotten about it until a comment posted at another drama page mentioned this serial. I was like, "Mi Yue, Mi Yue.... so familiar" All other dramas on hold now! Lol

Glad you enjoyed it! Fyi, there is another republican era detective drama released earlier this year: My Roommate is a Detective. There are more murders in this but the dialogues and portrayals of the characters are quite unrealistic... My Roommate setting is much earlier than Miss S (it is pre-war, 1910s or 20s) but the main leads' behaviours are unlike of those times. There are Caucasians and Indians in this, multi-racial cast. The Caucasians speak in English and heavily accented Chinese, so this part is realistic ;) I recommend you give this a watch if you like mysteries, it is not bad. And as you do not understand Chinese it is easier to ignore the inaccuracies...

I understand Chinese, so I watched both Miss S and Living Toward The Sun at pangzitv.com (this free site has dramas, movies, anime in HD but with chinese subs)

I love Miss S... it really depends on what you like. If you dislike Once Upon a time in Lingjian Mountain, The Heiress, etc because the FL 'overacted', then you probably will not enjoy Miss S. Some roles require overacting :) If you give Miss S a chance, after a few episodes, her acting settles down and feel less dramatic. The FL was also finalizing divorce when she was filming this drama... this is probably not her best work but it is still good under the circumstances.
