Recommend to watch at duboku.co (it has both versions) but there is no Eng subs. Eng subs isn't available yet...

Where is it with english subs? Dramacool doesn't have it...? Strange...
Becos there are 2 editions of the drama? And it isn't uncut vs tv editions.... I realized each has scenes that the other do not have. Beginning episodes seem to be identical, then it split focus (identical for the main plot but with different focus at the sub-plots).... both has the same ending though

Happy ending?
I would say it is a very controversial ending. It tries to give viewers an artistic, happy ending, but in doing so, it seems to imply the ML became mentally unstable....

Did u managed to catch the finale as well?? Was the TV edition the same as the DVD ver in the last ep??
Just finished the last episode at both editions. Ending is the same at both, unfortunately. Lol! Was hoping for 2 different endings... as I don't like the ending. A better one would be everyone gathering together after few years, talking about what they have been doing and demonstrating the spirit of the drama title.

This is a rant post, ranting at the editing team!!! LTTS has 2 editions. I started watching the dvd edition (and thought that was the only edition). Then at the train episode (when the gang accompanied Xia Meng to Beijing to meet her mother), I thought it weird to construct the train set for such a short scene, and search at the tv edition for the same train scene, found it with additional scenes (with a pregnant lady). So continued watching the tv edition, thinking this version has more scenes. But the scene at the coffee house felt weird again (Doctor Lin took Xiong Dun out to a cafe), so I switched back to dvd edition, and it shows additional scene with Xiong Dun's ex at the coffee house!! It also gives additional info why we haven't seen Grandpa Guo....

TV edition is 42 episodes, while DVD edition is 40. But that doesn't mean TV edition has more scenes! Because of the above mentioned coffee house scene..... Can we have a complete uncut edition??! Sigh....

Yeah, one of the reasons why I wrote this article is that, especially in TRoP , so many people were asking why…
I watched an interview with a Hong Kong director, who said he would not cast male actors younger than 30 years in his movies. Because he feels that young actors cannot put up the performance that he wants... he is more open to younger actresses however. Saying that females are more sensitive and mature at a younger age, lol. Can't remember the director's name.

In case there's any Deng Lun's fans, I do believe he would become a very good actor, just need to wait another few years ;)
Karpanei Nov 10, 2020
Hi! I like the question you brought up, but please note casting director had approached Chang Chen because they needed someone older for God of War in L&D, and Ning Yi in TROP is about 8 years older than Zhiwei (if you consider Ni Ni's and Chen Kun's real age, yup, the age gap is correct, lol). Since Zhiwei is played by Ni Ni who was about 30 yrs old at the time, Chen Kun being 10 years older is about right. LOL! Seriously though, I cannot imagine Zhiwei being played by any existing 21 ~ 24 yrs old actress nor Ning Yi by anyone else!

I like that you pointed out Deng Lun in Ashes of Love... his one-dimensional acting in AOL had annoyed me, had thought Zheng Cheng Yi would be a better choice..... but well, Deng Lun and Yang Zi have huge fan followings.

Acting is like wine, the older the actor (more experienced), the better he/she becomes. But audience love to watch dramas with main leads in 20s... so we get alot of 30+ yr old actors playing roles that are 10 years younger. Some older actors try to avoid taking on young roles. A recent example is Sun Li. I'm guessing 1 of the reasons she rejected the role in My Best Friend's Story is, she would have to act a high schooler in the early part of the drama. She is almost 38 yrs old....

If you check the drama score at douban and read the comments... you'd be very sad :( current douban score is 7.5 and 2 stars comments range from "poor adaptation" to "failed to portray the passion and emotional struggles that Hikaru went through before he finally decided to attempt to become Pro". There are some manga fans who feel the drama adaptation is well done.... I especially like 1 comment asking manga fans to let down their arrogance and watch the drama with unfiltered glasses, and appreciate the earnest work in the drama. That it ain't perfect but very close to manga...

Bai Yu is a talented actor and Long Night is an amazing script! Memory Lost... I only like the live shooting game arc. Still waiting to see Bai Yu in The Fated General... if it ever gets release

You will enjoy Suddenly This Summer. He did really well here, esp towards the end. If not for these 2 actors, the ending episodes would have been boring. But they built such good chemistry, I had difficulty accepting them being paired with others in other dramas (for a while). Be warned, this is a really slow burn drama

Lots of easter eggs in Cloud Prison 1 & 2. The weibo accounts are all live, you can search for the IDs. The news segments and tv programs can be found on Youku too.

Thank You! Appreciate the novel details :) My Chinese ain't good enough to read a whole novel, tried watching w/o Eng subs initially and had to switch to sub version >_<

Hmm then the issue is drama watered down everyone's characters, so the same plotlines end up becoming "unrealistic"? I read FZW's mother was stronger character and more active in Bloody Pagoda too... and if XZY was also more ruthless, the kidnapping of FH would make sense.

It is a waste with the last arc. This drama could have been better than NIF.... sigh

That was harsh! Although I have to agree with you.... cdramas struggle with novel adaptations due to SAFRT regulations. I'm still hoping for the director's cut of Guardian.... and Long On series: The Bad Kids could have been like Korea's OCN. Hmm, what if OCN do an adaptation of The Bad Kids? I would love to watch that

.... I still feel XZY could have used a better approach. Quietly kidnapping Feng Hao to see the reactions was a very shaky move, as a strategist he should have known the danger in that. Did you read the novel? Was this in the original or scriptwriters' work?

I read that Minhai success was mostly FZW's work, but drama rewrote her into a supporting role... And that she and the Bloody Pagoda revived Dacheng? If so, the 2nd half is mostly scriptwriters' work. I just feel the inclusion of the slave market was a last minute edit, due to original script did not pass SARFT? They are the main culprits for so many deaths at the end.

HLZ's decision to fake assassinate FZW in front of NY was stupid. But not as stupid as breaking the dam to create that flood.... Everyone talks about FZW losing her IQ towards the end, but NY actually lost more IQ. That flood and the scene with GNY to rescue his mother. NY's first reaction at the cliff should have been "let me see my mother, then we discuss the conditions for her release". But no, we never see her in that scene, and the carriage look so empty, I was half expecting GNY to jump up, clap hands and say "surprise! she's still alive!" =_=

The production team is like, "We need to rewrite the script again?! Ok, now see us do a Picasso!" (a work that no one can understand)...
