I’m not going easy on Wai - he couldn’t do the play because of his scholarship right? But he was almost willing…
Wait and see. He'll redeem himself far more than we all ever imagined. In the three episodes to come.

Number one rule for Bad Buddy watching: Never judge a character/group too early.

Just as how quite a few judged Bad Buddy too early in its earliest days. Never judge a book by its cover only.

And thanks to the numerous friends here who help to unveil the truth behind the many layers of subtlety in every episodes so far. That's all the huge number of comments we have so far, most of which are great and constructive inputs and thoughts.

Wai already got the first of his karma strike on this episode. When he was talking to Pran regarding Pat being accused of arms possession, he was already feeling the guilt knowing that it was his own emotions getting the better of him, provoking the opponent team after the rugby match that eventually led all the way to Pat being shot, and him being charged with arms possession.

That made Pran really distressed, and Wai must have felt that it was his own actions that indirectly (or even directly) hurt his best friend that way.

Some may feel that him getting the CCTV and the video call scene isn't enough to redeem him. But don't forget that this is just EP 9. As I wrote in another comment below, I am pretty sure he will be contributing a lot in the coming episodes (as his atonement), probably even helping to resolve the situation between Pat and Pran's families. Don't forget that Wai is Pran's mum's favourite, and Pran's mum is potentially the most difficult hurdle to overcome.

He'll probably do more than sufficient to atone for his earlier terrible actions in the upcoming episodes, now that the family part of the obstacles will likely begin in EP 10. By the finale, I predict we all will finally like him and his character.

I already came to terms with the epi. The gun thing felt random at the first watch but then if you think of the…
I think we have to give Wai time. I am pretty sure he will be contributing a lot in the coming episodes (as his atonement), probably even helping to resolve the situation between Pat and Pran's families. Don't forget that Wai is Pran's mum's favourite.

So yes, he'll likely atone for his actions, and even more than enough. Who knows we may even love his character by the finale. Let's not judge too early.

What I like about this series is how they improved the novel part of the resolution of the matter/quarrel between the two families (the novel version is already amazing, and the series may exceed even that, we'll see in EP 10 and maybe after that)

In the novel, it was solely Pat who managed to resolve the situation between the two families by finding the root of the problem. It was Pat who also stood by his relationship and love for Pran, which eventually caused not just his parents, but Pran's father to give in.

In the series, although still too early to guess based on the preview (as we know that preview often fooled us), but we can see how Pat and Pran are working TOGETHER starting the next episode to resolve their families' feud, again TOGETHER, and not Pat alone. And I won't be surprised if it's Pran that will stand up to his parents this time round (if not both of them before both parents).

On the other hand, if you remember, that Pat has always did a lot of things to make his relationship with Pran work, even if he were to make sacrifices and suffer losses.

'If I have a lover, I let my lover win' has a deeper meaning especially after all that happened in EP 9.

We all know how Pat literally took a shot (although just a graze wound) for Wai, and he could have ignored Wai and let that terrible rugby guy with the gun to keep on bullying Wai. But Pat knew that Wai is Pran's best friend, and even before that scene, he had repeatedly kept on trying, without giving up, to try to mend the relations with Wai, for Pran's sake.

(Remember how he even made the comment to Pran that he was willing to even post on the social media that they broke up so just that Pran could mend his relationship with Wai?)

Pat loves Pran so much that he was willing to go all the way for him. He would help Pran mend his relationship with Wai, and protect Wai if necessary, as if Wai is hurt, ultimately it is Pran who will be affected too, regardless of how cold he was treating Pran at that time.

Obviously Pat didn't know about the gun (only Wai knew about it beforehand) but I'm sure that he was willing to sacrifice it all even for Pran's sake. Thankfully it wasn't a serious injury, and most importantly, no extended drama over all those things.

Bad Buddy kept the plot simple and short, straightforward and yet speaks volumes (but we need to understand their character to appreciate all these better)

And in the last part, we all know how Wai, in his own way (over the video call), finally admitted that he could accept Pran being with Pat (of course he did it while adding 'harsh words' to Pat, not because he was being nasty but rather that was to put his admittance behind a veil to hide his embarrassment - and really, it's very hard to put aside your ego, especially for the one you want the least to put it aside for).

That rugby match, the following connected bar scene and the gun and hospital scene all served as a catalyst to resolve all the earlier issues amongst the two faculties' gangs, and it helped to bring not just Pat and Pran closer together, but also settle most of the issues between the Engineering and Architecture gang.

Pat is of course the MVP, as it was his actions, known to all the Architecture gang of Pran, that they should accept him, just as Pat's Engineering gang had accepted Pran slightly earlier on.

During the rugby match, Wai was always holding back from helping Pat because he wasn't willing to let go of his ego and admit that he could accept Pat. Actually, a part of him was already accepting Pat even though he didn't want to accept it, all because of his ego.

Anyone still remembered all the way back in EP 1 when all the trouble and even the fighting was because Wai refused to apologise for having showed Pat the middle finger? It took Pran to concoct an idea to get him to apologise and then Korn had to spoil it by hitting Wai, and everyone ended up fighting (do you all still remember this?)

It was part of Wai's character. He has a huge ego, and would not let others to see his weakness easily, and he didn't want to show it especially to Pat. As Pran's best friend, he certainly could accept Pran's choice of wanting to be together with Pat, but his ego was in the way in the earlier part of EP 9.

If you analyse the moment when Wai finally threw that ball to Pat, the way the scene was played obviously showed the tension in Wai's mind (purposefully slowed down to dramatise this), him trying to overcome that ego, humble himself and accept that Pat being Pran's boyfriend is a fact that he can accept (I know it's rather complicated, but that's what I feel was going on in Wai's mind)

I've done watching EP 9. I don't quite get why some in the earlier comment mentioned how some people found this episode not as good or underwhelming. To me, it is on par with the other episodes (of course feel free to disagree on this)

The plot of this episode was actually quite good to me, and a lot better than how many if not most other BL series had done a similar plot. Jimmy nailed Wai's actions and his eyes and facial expressions at various moments showed volumes of the internal thoughts that he had.

This is the landmark episode that resolved the situation between Pat and Pran and their friends. And I will not say less than they nailed it really well.

Preliminary thoughts on Wai:

As I said before, I can understand his point of view and actions. I'm not saying what he's done was right. He's wrong, but what he did, he did because he was genuinely angry. Pran was his best friend, and to find out that his best friend had been denying, lying and hiding that relationship with Pat (even lying to his face, repeatedly), was something that drove him mad. Like really, really mad. Jimmy was very good in showing that emotion, even with his eyes alone.

And we know that when we are mad, we can do things that are crazy which we only regret afterwards. Yes, he did wrong things, but as I said, based on the development of the story, it made perfect sense to me. That's why it's very important for us to rewatch even from the beginning again, to understand the whole story.

When Wai said that if he was in Pran's position, he would tell Wai, what I felt is that, Wai trusted in Pran a lot, and that 'betrayal' sort of really hurt him. Of course Wai couldn't have understood how complicated the relationship that Pran had with Pat, especially how he was separated earlier from the latter in the high school by his parents.

If we just try to classify the actions based on bits and pieces in the latter episode, it can cause distortion of our understanding of the characters, especially in a character driven story like Bad Buddy.

(Of course, each one of us perceive things differently. This is what I feel)

I am just done with my Christmas celebrations. At least I managed to share the links with all of you seven hours earlier.

I kind of get the idea of how the episode turns out to be. Watching it now (it's 4 am plus here).

Will hold my thoughts until I watch EP 9, but whatever and however it turns out to be, remember, Bad Buddy is something that you may need to rewatch carefully and help each other to understand. Let's not be overwhelmed by emotion as I mentioned before.

I still remember the early days when Bad Buddy wasn't this trending, and how some were disliking it (which is ok) and unjustly looking down on this series (which isn't ok).

Fast forward just less than two months and we see just how different things are now. People are literally breathing OhmNanon and PatPran now!
