For me, the most painful part of historical dramas are the court politics. I enjoyed the historical dramas where most of the story was about the characters and the politics were just a backdrop or something I could skip through, lol. But it's a personal preference -- I just don't like politics!
I really enjoy the costumes and being transporsted to another place, time and culture. Even little details like the food they eat, or the look/feel of handwritten books fascinate me or the way they would talk... I mean, I'm the type of person who loves Jane Austen books and shows like Downton Abbey, so that sort of thing really fascinates me.
I'd love to get recos about historical dramas that were more about the life of the "regular people" rather than the royalty...
I love this! It's so true. I think i'm on stage two, where I don't drop but abuse the skip button (looking at you, TKEM). Still need to overcome the guilt of dropping dramas, but I overcompensate by overthinking whether I should start a show or not. Read recaps, reviews, watch excerpts on Youtube, before I "commit" to a show. It's a sickness, I tell you -- I need a 10 step program or something.
But I really like this article! It's so relatable and true. My first show was Boys Over Flowers and I thought it was amazeballs back then, but would probably never touch a show like that now. It's like the bad perm that was so trendy in high school but haunts you whenever you see your yearbook photos, LOL.
Real story of an actual real life “Kdrama fiancé”:During my best years, a long time ago... before my introduction…
Ooof, I feel both your pain. He sounds like a really great guy, but I'm sure a great person too. Even in dramas (but especially in life) the leads have a painful backstory or regret that helped them grow and become really ready for that OTP, right? Don't be too hard on yourself!
I really liked this show! I also found it funny how both their families were always like, "Why aren't you together yet?" That final scene too with the shoes was very sweet.
Omg that was painfully real LOL Unfortunately, very much agree with you. Although, I guess, a K-Drama boyfriend…
Thanks for reading it! And yeah you're right, they may be too "much" in real life. It may also be a lot of pressure to be with a boyfriend who has better skin and hair than I do, hahaha!
Being in a relationship for 6 years I know that boyfriends in dramas are pure fantasies but that doesn't mean…
TRUTH! I totally agree with you. And in some dramas, the noble idiocy is just so terrible. In that case, KDrama boyfriends can learn a LOT from real people in real relationships :)
