The novel is a HE. It includes 7 epilogues of their married life all the way up to their passing in old age.

Someone said they casted elderly HT and JX so I’m wondering if they’ll have the last epilogue. 😢 But in the drama they’ll use the Forgiveness Card during their reconciliation so don’t know what they’ll do since in the novel it was used at the very end,…forgive him for leaving the world first and then JX followed a month later. 😭 Maybe they’ll just stop at the part where they turned over the business to the kids and just spend their time together.

Not just that imbalance but also the whole “Love is more important than career” thing contradicts the “I won’t sacrifice Dongyang for love” narrative that HT is famous for.

Yes…that’s seriously the only issue I have with this adaptation because it made things a little too uneven between the two leads. HT’s ruthlessness in business was a flaw that his parents and grandfather in the novel warned him about and then they said we told you to leave room for people before they’re back into a corner, when JX got kidnapped and he got hurt.

Yes , merging two companies is common knowledge but she was a business novice and naive. It wasn’t as much as the act of the merger but how it was done was what prompted her reaction…basically it made her feel like she was a chess piece, a pwn, in his fight with his cousin. She doesn’t know the things HT did behind the scenes. We as viewers see the whole picture but she as the character is in the moment and HT in the drama likes to hide things from her that will personally hurt her as well as his more ruthless side of business. At that moment she was questioning everything and had everything jumbled up in her head and she can’t see him clearly. Due to high emotions she can’t see it until she steps away.

The age gap and HT’s pragmatic character (especially on love, he did NOT do all those romantic things, love and romance was an afterthought) would have explained her reaction. The other way to have made things make more sense would have been to change both HT and JX’s characterizations.

The way they had her leave in the drama sucked and was wrong.

I just watch the drama neutrally and had to stop thinking about what makes sense or not. Only thing that matters is HT and JX love each other and can’t live without each other.

They can’t make major plot or character changes. As one of the other commenters said, if they kept the age gap and HT’s characterization from the novel, things would have made a bit more sense for non-novel viewers. She was only in her early 20’s a few years out of college. HT was early 30s (his worldliness and her naivety).
