From ep 12 preview, you can see that Zhang Haixia is biting a pill in his mouth (dripped with blood from sustaining injuries). I'm sure it's used to fake his death until a certain period of time. I think I've seen similar pill in other historical dramas, but I've forgotten where. I hope the black magic theory is false. I really can't bear to see Zhang Haixia become a villain - he's such a good little puppy.
I admit that the time skip feels rushed and we get about 2 skips within the first three episodes. However, I don't really mind this issue as I'm really glad to throw myself wholly into "The Grave Robbers' Chronicle" world again. It's been quite a time since I dropped "Ultimate Note" due to my inability to withstand the horror element in that drama.
The arson vs the vandalism in Speed and Love is kinda similar (the destruction of Jim Zhao's car before the final race). Coincidentally, both cases occur before the adult arc begins.
At this point, I have a bad hunch that the adult arc will be rushed given how many unaired episodes are still on the waiting room. We just need a proper happy ending, the conflicts are just... too much (even for a high schooler), you know. I'm quite surprised that the screenwriter even knows how to pull off a stunt like this. Or does this incident also happen in the novel (question for novel readers)?

Excuse me, but the Cao siblings are just petty insecure bullies who are beyond saving already. After reading the comments below, I finally come to a realization that once someone has jumped down into an abyss, there is no way back anymore unless that person has self-consciousness and understands his/her predicament well enough to turn over a new leaf. But, I guess those two don't want saving, and Qing Ye's reconciliation will turn out fruitless or even more dangerous than she expects (I mean Xing Wu and Cao Ping's brawl here).
Come to think of it, even if there's bullying happening in my school, my friends mostly do it behind the teachers' back, but majority of them only resort to verbal bullying to attack each other (e.g. cursing, gossiping, etc). We never go beyond laying hands on others or humiliating someone in the public because the sanction is quite severe if it is found out (potentially a warning for the parents or worse, an expulsion). What I mean is the bullying portrayed in this drama is just too overly dramatic compared to the real life's situation. I'm looking forward for tomorrow's uplifting tension. Guess that's all for my rant....

Seriously, we've got a Gobi Desert in the book? I felt the OG source wasn't that interesting so I never made it past the first 10 chapters. Can you elaborate the content of the novel briefly 'cause I'm just so curious of what is happening VS the drama?
As you can see, it's loosely-based from Speed and Love (if you have watched that too) because I find every element, plot device, and trope is similar to the former.
I'm currently suspending my watching time for a while as exams are looming ahead (will come back whenever I have free time though). I wonder what kind of problematic plot device causes the rating to slump down (I mean the rank) a bit.
I'm really sorry, but I'm afraid I'll have to opt out from this show. Aside from the thieves, I can't seem to find any interesting or funny stuffs and somehow the poetic comedy comes off as forced (I tried to force a laugh indeed). The mafia guy arc is not hooking me up too. So, I've deleted this show from my watchlist and won't give any rating. See you guys and have fun. By the way, I'm binging Pegasus currently and it's way more exhilarating compared to this one.

Bonus point: When you're stressed out, do play "Yong Chuang San Jiang Kou" in loop. I'm sure you'll love it.
