For those of you interested in looking for a sprinkle of disappointment to spice up your day. :D
*Feel free to dispute/discuss the implications this document has in regards to the release of censored bl dramas in 2022 below!*

NRTA (branch of the government that regulates media and propaganda) just released a document, indicating all tv shows, ads, movies, donghuas, etc. should contain "Our New Era" theme. The productions should focus on major historical achievements from struggles during the 18th century, demonstrating the significance of the Communist party of China until the end of 2022.

Yes you read that right, until the end of 2022, it's likely there will be no dangai dramas/censored BL adaptions, even though it hasn't *explicitly* pointed out dangai dramas. *suddenly becomes drained of energy and collapses in defeat*
But if I must be optimistic here, I guess that leaves us a peace of mind to the entirety of 2022, knowing that we aren't burdened with having to constantly keep up with updates for unreleased dramas :D Good times.

Most of the Eternal faith drama team of directors listed on mydramalist have already fled this production including…
I totally get you :( This drama was originally touted as a S+ level drama, which is a series of categories iQiyi uses to rank the quality (and thus the amount of resources/funding provided) of dramas, which you may have already come across on their platforms previously. As the rumors go, the decision to withdraw the funding by iQiyi, occurred after the cast selection was determined. That and a host of other factors, subsequently culminated in the original team of directors leaving this production.

So you can imagine the lost potential this drama had with its originally star studded team of directors, especially the art director Han Zhong who previously worked on *House of Flying Daggers* (which received critical acclaim at the Cannes Film festival in 2004), Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace and Growling Tiger, Roaring Dragon *AND DRUM ROLL* the highly anticipated drama - The Wind Blows From Longxi. These are on a whole another league.

Now, go ahead and torture yourself all over again by imagining if TGCF was given the same treatment. *cries* Just when BL was slowly making its way to being recognised, instead of being ostracised and denigrated by mainstream media all the time.

Me too >_< -> "I am even willing to compromise on HuaLian's relationship as long as they keep the plot the same and the budget". AND THANK YOU for taking the time to read this whole heap of mess I just decided to dump on you without any prior warning XD ;P

Most of the Eternal faith drama team of directors listed on mydramalist have already fled this production including Chan Ka Lam, and the recent rumour is that the newly appointed director from just last month, have also left. Keep in mind, these are all speculations, but what can be definitively said is that, as you probably already know, this drama went from expecting a high amount of funding to being ... well if I must be direct, cheap. *waggles fingers at the quality of costumes, and sprints away* If you're really hungry for any crumbs of this drama's updates, you can copy "吉星高照" and google or search in Baidu.com, apply webpage translate (google chrome works) and look for rumours to satiate yourself in the meantime XD.

So there's been a slew of censorship laws that convey the government's stance on trying to discourage any gay media by actively ramping up its efforts to aggressively attach social stigma to it. It's by no coincidence, this occurred in parallel with the government pushing a narrative that promote approved "traditional values", directly spearheading the agenda that "effeminate" male expression is emasculating.

Not to cause fearmongering, but just yesterday, I saw on Twitter in the circle of danmei novel fans that ALL of the gay novels (including prominent ones that plan to have live action adaptions) have all been locked on JJWX novel reading site. (mdzs and svss were already locked away since 2019.) https://twitter.com/atanalerectida/status/1454014694168039426

All gay manhua have been removed from bilibili comics, because of fear of legal ramifications from the vaguely redefined censorship around gay media. I'm not sure if it's like that on Kuaikanmanhua or other paid manhua sites. To put into perspective, on bilibili comics TGCF manhua was the one of most popular manhuas on bilibili, frequently at the forefront in many of its advertisements. But just like that, the cover page of TGCF manhua went from depicting Hualian to just Xielian himself, until it wasn't enough to keep its place on the site.

Personally at just the tip of a hat, it feels like they never existed, all the fame, effort and passion put into these productions and slowly built up over the years by the creator and fans... it can just suddenly be taken away with vaguely defined laws. But all in all, I'm glad mdzs season3 anime was able to be released just in time and air before anything happens to it.
Basically things aren't looking good for gay-aligned creations, but welp! Keep your chin up! :D

*deep sigh* I'm glad we got to see Moran and Wanning bow towards each other in their marriage costumes and Taxian Jun princess-carrying him in the leaked photos though, because it's very likely we won't get to see that scene played out anymore. Past leaks will be doing all the heavy lifting, in case we become disappointed with the drama when it airs, and reminisce the good times while staring at them with a goofy grin.

XD Like Untouchable Lovers/Feng Qiu Huang (with Guan Xiaotong) with the male concubines.
No, they're not, but they would be regarded as such by individuals set on enforcing the policies. That's why it's lucky that Romance of Tiger & Rose was aired like you said, but I thought it was also true for this drama from a few years back as well :) Unfortunately I wonder if Cao Chunhua in ShaPoLang drama (his name - spring blossom, and character in the novel is relatively effeminate) (played by Xiao Xingcheng from The Untamed) will get edited out?

Yeah... me too. Being constantly exposed to this kind of political news because I'm always on the look out for 2ha updates, can start to take its toll on ourselves. It doesn't help especially when the expanding presence of the Chinese government and the repercussions of its actions, are already taking up no small percentage of the world news churned out daily.

I had held out a miniscule ray of hope, but seems like it's set in stone now :( Do you guys think other rumours are going to follow this trend too after that National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) meeting about BL in dramas? It's practically government endorsed discrimination against people who don't fit the mould... but I'm not even one bit surprised, given the rapid rise in nationalistic fervour, not that it wasn't like that before, but has only intensified in recent years :(
