This could've been a meaningful story with two broken people bonding over their trauma, internalized hatred, and…
I don't normally write extremely negative comments. I felt compelled by this one because the directing style felt so odd to me. There is a place for SA stories. They can be done with genuine empathy and nuance. But the directing of this one just reminds me of many other movies where SA scenes are too long, too graphic, and oddly sexualized. It reminds me of Ryan Murphy and how often he takes dark topics and sexualizes them for the sake of doing so, rather than handling the very real crimes that have happened and do happen to real victims every day.
I'm curious to know which threads you're referring to? I tend to write comments on most things I watch, but I don't tend to hate things as viscerally as this one lol. Normally I just complain about things being boring or technical issues that I wish were better.
I wish the drama had focused more on character development and growth rather than romance. The original webtoon was about the FL learning how meaningful hobbies can be, even if they don't lead to better higher paying jobs. The joy and community of the drawing club as well as the very weird ML help the FL to grow. Instead they focused on romance and made this seem more average/blank yn FL. When the point of the webtoon was her growth, the point of the drama is that a hot guy likes her while the side plot is sometimes she stands up for herself.
Also with such a weird ML, showcase that more. It's fun having unconventional fun characters like that.
The pacing is awful and the first 30 minutes have practically nothing to do with the rest of the movie. The character building and motivations are completely different halfway thorough and it's not through character growth or development, it just happens. Ughh I wanted to like this, but the execution is so poor.
This was so good as a rewatch. I can't believe how good the golden era of kdrama romcoms were. The emotional depth, the warm and natural chemistry, and the comedy was so good. Seung Ho's performance is steller here. It's not often you see such effort and talent in romcoms anymore...Way more of a rarity now.
It's a really interesting and unique concept, but sadly the budget is quite low. This would've been sooo good with a better budget, directing, and pacing because the story is really good.
The ML was such a unique character. I don't think I've seen such an emotional ML before or even an emotional MC that often. He felt everything and you could see every emotion in the way he held his body, by the look in his eyes, and see the thoughts running through his head. What a wonderful messy, flawed, and well written ML.
I've gotten so used to watching actors get stabbed or hurt and get up like nothing happened but a minor scrape. It was jarring and so impactful seeing an actor actually ACT hurt. The body in shock moving in odd ways, the act of trying to get up, the unfocused eyes, not being able to scream, etc. Zo In Sung, my goodness what an actor.
I was so confused why the final episode was 2 and half hours long! Luckily it's because it's 80% recap. Idk why they did it like that, but if you to the final episode that timestamp is right. I skipped to the current game at time stamp 1 hour and 31 minutes.
If you've never seen an early 2000's jdrama or an anime-style live action, then you're gonna get some whiplash from this show. But if you have, you'll love the excessive editing, funky styles, and nostalgia it brings. Watch it as a show from 2007 as a it's charming point and it's a great time.
This show is a mess, yet really fun with it's own charm, natural chemistry/intimacy, and heart. Skip all the secondary couples and enjoy a romance between two very flawed characters. I think it's fun watching older shows where not every character is perfect, instead their flawed and somewhat grounded.
This is my first time re-watching in 7 years and it's still super fun.
The leads have so many endearing and warm hugs, I love it when there is realistic moments of intimacy like that. Hugs are so underrated in the romance drama wordl!
