Sorry my mistake! The lakorn I was supposed to make comparison with "My Beloved ? In Laws" is "So Wayree" as both FL and ML are the same actress and actor. Hope this lakorn is more light hearted and nothing too dramatic.

After watching 10 episodes of Minglan, I understand more and can draw the similarities between Minglan and Autumn Ballad wrt the roles &
responsibilities (or woes) of being concubine and her children in a noble or aristocrat family.

Great! Now I am motivated to pick Ming Lan up. I watched ep.1& trailer, didnt seem like a trans-migrated back story type. Maybe its the censorship......

Watched this movie to understand why there's so much hype and buzz about this movie. I say its a light comedy with some educational points about SM. What is acceptable and what is not acceptable, where it crosses the line and not fun anymore.....perhaps to educate younger people.

Speaking of watching Ming Lan, I read alot of good reviews about Legend of Ming Lan but the 80 episodes length is quite discouraging. Only if I have long break like a week to binge then I will consider.

I agree! She can totally be a FL in a lower budget drama.

Hahaha...I finished watching Pearl Eplise. No...Yangmi was 34 last year. 😂

Another example, was Zhang ziyi in The Rebel Princess...more extreme age wise to play a teen but suprisingly i was interested enough to finish drama, over 50 episodes.

You got a point. If casting choice is also about the chemistry between ML and SML, then Brigitte Qiao fits the bill.

Brigette Qiao is a wonderful actress, however she was playing 20-21 YO is a bit stretched as she is 28 this year. Her acting is fine, just that its difficult for someone acting a much younger character than her actual. So far only Sun Li/Betty Sun acted well below her age in those 2 Palace dramas. However Kabby Hui plays 15 YO was quite convincing.

I was confused too. Just watched more advanced and you will be more certain and clearer references are made that her biological mother is Madam Liang, the concubine.

Sorry to Jeremy Tsui fans here but noticed his face has changed substantially (more handsome) in this drama from the last dramas I watched he played 2nd MLs in Siege in Fog and Legend of Dugu.

I watched this jdrama because I am interested to learn the simple Japanese style cooking method, ingredients and pots to make donburi that you find in Japanese restaurants, not so much of storyline or romance. It less than a half hour per episode series that you can finish less than 6 hours.
